Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Not comfy enough for my back, not overly economical and I just wanted a change.

    True I suppose!

Since you now have the Civic, is the 3MPS out the window?

Ah the MPS was always a while off, I'd rather spend money getting the race cars ready than but something for the road

Are you going to get the few bits of body work fixed on the civic? Or are you just going to leave it?

    i wonder what would win in a drag race....a 04+ 320d e46 or a 150 cdti vectra.....or a jtd 159

Win what? The most boring drag race of the year? :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,238 ✭✭✭Ardennes1944

I'll most likely fix them, even if I was to turn the car into a track slut I'd want the roof fixed

Maybe we could ask the ploughing championship if they'd be interested in hosting this event

It would need to be an Avensis or Skoda in that case.

Yeah, one of the reasons I went for it is reliability. The 2.2s are supposed to be pretty solid so here's hoping!

I`d second the Mazda our race school ones have never let us down even when subjected to fairly stubburn outside interference (Tyre walls).

Do they not also spend most of their time with the rev limiters on though?

there appears to be 3 variants of the 2.2 i presume youre getting the 163bhp?

You can only get the lower powered one here unless you get the Z sport which is near impossible to find and way overpriced (€36k). So 129 is the one I'm getting. It's more than enough though as the 6 is actually a pretty light car for its class. Was miles better than the 2 litre 140 Mondeo I was looking at.

You're from Offaly. You of all people aren't in any position to have a go:p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,238 ✭✭✭Ardennes1944

129 is gonna take a bit of getting used to! is the new 6 that comfortable though? and more economical than the vrs to warrant changing?

Main reason is that I want a change tbh. There really isn't a huge difference in performance which suprised me. It's very quiet and smooth IMO, much more so than the pre facelift model I looke at.

But it's got toys to keep me happy too. All I need to add is a nav system. Doesn't have xenons though:(

are you gonna sell the vrs with the columbus?

    What sig?

TBH like I said to you last week I thought the power delivery in the vRS was rubbish. It's a nice place to sit and I'm sure we'll suited to big motorway miles but give me the Mada any day

I think you'll remember I said that to you first! Was my one big gripe with it. I drove mik_da_mans 300bhp focus and it wasn't as bad for it! Lag, lag, lag, lag, ditch.

No rev limiters on the Mazda`s and you really have to rev them to get them moving. They spend most of their time at the very high end of the RPM scale.

    Good to hear.

I remember having a go in the rovers and was bored dumbstruck going around the track.

I did have great fun in the single seaters in the p1ssing rain with tyres that said 'dry use only' on them:P

My instructor shouted 'Power on now' when coming out of 7b, the car spun and then he proceeded to give out to me for powering on too early

The instructors are all a shower of bastards. That right Lightning?

Buy the VW one. It's possible but I don't know of anyone that would stand over the work tbh.

MM I was just looking up the 6 mps on wiki last night as you do and found this
Car and Driver magazine has achieved a 0-60 mph time of 5.4 seconds for this vehicle.

 I know its not as powerful as an E46 M3 but its as fast at the 0-60 sprint!

I'd think there's some trickery going on there. I don't know how it would be as fast as the M3 considering it's quite a bit heavier and there's turbo lag vs. N/A.

Even Mazda say it's 6.5 seconds.

6MPS is 4wd though that would help it off the line

True but would it make up for the slight turbo lag vs. instant power from the M3?

You only get lag if you don't use the gears/revs properly.;)

  • Subscribers Posts: 6,408 ✭✭✭conzy

Yeah id say it hard get a good launch in an M3 without leaving 100 meters of rubber behind :p And the american MPS seems to have a slightly more powerful map and probably isnt limited in 1st and 2nd gear
