Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Fannymagee banned ?????

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 3 RIP Fannymagee

Yup Mahoney_J, I'm afraid it looks like Fannymagee is no more!!

I logged on today to post some photos of the (AMAZING!) conditions in Soll and discovered I'd been banned. Initially I had no idea why, but it turns out that it's because a friend of mine is doing a Masters Thesis on tourist interpretations of piste maps, and I made the fatal mistake of posting a link to the survey.

Apparently that's not allowed (although it doesn't say anything about it in the Winter Sports Charter, so I had no idea..) But anyway, apparently it's a permanent ban! Hahahahaaa, ah well. Such is life on boards.

Sooo, a big ta-ra to all on the Soll thread. It's been.... unpredictable. Lol!!

(On the upside the OH will be very pleased- I'll no longer be stopping every two mins to take photos for you guys, haha!!)

Have a lovely summer kids, and stay safe :-)

Poor Fanny! That's a ridiculous reason for banning you, though hardly the end of the world, the snow must go on... Haha see what I did there?...

Anyhoo good to see you're not actually dead as your new username made me think for a brief moment.

I have to admit I did smile a little. :)

Not a fan of boards at all but there's no other active Irish snow community that I can find.

A good thread fanny. Enjoy the summer.

HAHA!! A poor joke, but it amooosed me. And you are correct. The snow most certainly IS going on! And on, and on- there's piles of it here but I can't post pics because a) I'm banned and b) I need to have 50 posts from this address before I can post pics. Which leads me to my next point

Oh my God I didn't think this username through- it's a bit alarming alright!! I didn't mean for anyone to think the REAL Fannymagee had popped her clogs! Esp after those avalanche pics a few weeks ago haha ;-)

And everyone else thanks for that, you are too kind. And D-Don you never even made it over to visit!! Maybe next season. Or you could hit Kitzbuhel now- it's fab at the moment!!

Aanyhoo, ya never know. It's Easter. Maybe fannymagee will be rise again ;-)

    Right.

    I'm back. And I've changed.

I've done my time in prison, learned how to shoot up, brew hooch and got my knuckles tattooed. I'm a changed poster- no more smiley faces and exclamation marks. No more entertaining people who ignore what I post on this thread & send me PM's requesting the EXACT SAME information three times over. No more wasting phone credit on giving directions to complete strangers who ignore my advice and miss the last lift from Brixen. No more LOL's. No more OMG's.

This is the Soll thread. Sh*t just got real.

Kind of! It's Rigi, as you come down from the top of the Hohe Salve and yes you can continue on to Hopfgarten & Itter from there, or back to Soll. The gondel from Hopfgarten leaves ou there, and there's a little Church just beyond :-)

It's the Hohe Salve in the background that is scaring me. I've not yet picked which autumn marathon to run, and despite it hurting a lot, and the other half probably not being up for the idea again... I wouldn't mind running the Tour De Triol again at some point.

    Recommendation please!

Group of us, all late 20s, thinking of trying Soll this year. Have been to Mayrhofen last two years, St Anton two before.

Want either a chalet or hotel half board. Want to book through Crystal at the moment because they're doing 2 for 1 lift passes. From the Crystal site at the moment its , Ferienhotel Fuchs, Hotel Austria, Hotel Mödlinger or around that price range.

Do you've any experience in these hotels.

Im sure it could work out cheaper to sort it ourselves, but as someone who struggles to get people to even book packages, I'm not bothered trying to organise more that that!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 941 ✭✭✭AlternateID

Wow I've actually stayed in all 3.

Fuchs and Modlinger are both a bit of a walk from the village centre and a long way from the gondola but both have a bus stop. I prefer the walk anyway. Modlinger has a fondu night that I really didn't appreciate. I have a big appetite when snowboarding.

I've stayed in hotel austria twice. I find most hotels in Austria are all similar. Food, accommodation and so on. Hotel austria is central to the village giving it a big advantage over the other 2. It's right beside the church but after the first night you won't notice the bells.

I like Soll. Would happily go back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,230 ✭✭✭fannymagee

Yes I'd second the Austria. Shows all the matches in the bar if you're there during rugby season, and really central to bars, restaurants, Spar etc. Pretty much a no-brainer. DO IT! :-)

Hey mate, I'd avoid Soll if you been to mayrhofen and st. Anton. The skiing in Soll will be nowhere near as good as those resorts. Have you tried France? I was in Val d' Isere last season and loved it. Great skiing and great après. Mostly catered chalets so would be ideal. Try highlife.ie they'd have good deals for jan and the resort is generally a bit quieter too so no queues.

Ohhhhhhh!!!!!!!,go to France, skiing may be better, slightly but hope u have very deep pockets.veryvexpensive in comparison to Austria and the après,well everyone and his mother knows the Austrian après is legendary

I won't disagree with you there, but Soll isn't the best of places in fairness.. Love mayrhofen and st.anton.

    Hi All,

Yea tbh the apres ski in Austria generally better than most in my experience.

I'm stuck with a few people who don't want to go back to Mayrhofen because they've been there before. I'd happily go back but trying to be diplomatic. Huge Mayrhofen fan, also really enjoyed St Anton but it's v pricey and hard to get everyone into, can book out very fast.

Nice lifestyle, Fanny. I own a website, as well as working a full-time job. I'd love to give up the full-time job and work on the website from some ski resort, however at present the income from the site would really only allow me live in somewhere like Bankso, Bulgaria - which I'd imagine I'd be bored of after a few days. Some day maybe!
