Where exactly is that? I'm a bit of railway nerd and I'd like to visit it next time I'm in Galway.

Close to Abbeyknockmoy, 8km South east of Tuam, often heard about it but found it by taking a wrong turn.

Quite famous as part of The Quiet Man was filmed there.

Thanks. I found it on Google. Looks very interesting. I must get to it before any major restoration work is done. I like the period look it has in your photos.

    Thanks again.

But as this is a photo thread and you are a railway nerd you should know that there is an exhibition on presently at the Temple Bar photographic museum on the various used and disused railway lines connecting The Midlands and Dublin.

Pics above are from Achill and the last one is from the top of Minaun. 17mins 30 seconds of hard climbing but the views are worth it

The gap in the mountains is facing west x northwest, about 10 miles to the Atlantic. When a storm picks up it's like a funnel. It lifts the top of the waves driving sheets of spray maybe 30 foot high all the way down the lake but it's a grand spot on a good day ;)
