Ve Germans aren't all smiles und sunshine

It is amusing we've just seen a bunch of Americans singing about surfing, and then a bunch of Germans doing music called Autobahn.

When I'm in charge of everything, this Tom who invented the "remix" better have a hideout, cos he's near the top of the list for my special police.

Would be awesome to visit Sun Studios.

Ah, 'Stand By Me' - stone cold classic :)
    Ol' Donie wrote: »
Totally agree with both of these.

I'd do just about anything to record a couple of those old r'n'r tunes in there.
    I hate to boast but...

Sun Studios was definitely worth the visit!

Yup, it's a great spot for a visit. It looks identical to what it did when all the greats were there.

It was very quiet the day I was there. Only a tiny fraction of the numbers who visit Graceland ever drop in (I really enjoyed Graceland too). Our tour guide was a real music lover who could have told stories all day. They really seemed to appreciate that people took the time to visit, it's not over-commercialised at all. They have a free shuttle to and from Graceland, which saves you a taxi fare

And drop into Beale Street afterwards, for some classic Blues action :)

    Woah, Skid, that's amazing!

Can you go into the actual recording room? Do they still use it?

What's Beale St like? Too awesome for words, I reckon.

Graceland...isn't that the place The Beatles went to, to meet that American fella that time?

Yeah Donie it's class. The studio still works but it only gets used for recording now and then. That's a great idea, they should rent it out so you can lay down a track. In the studio where it all began.

I just did a search, someone has recorded part of the tour on a phone. it would give you a good idea of what goes on there. The audio is low but I think you can hear most of it. That is the studio where it all happened, you couldn't swing a cat in it. But you can get some great photos there!

The tour guides are great, I think they love the idea that people are interested and want to find out more. That guy with the excellent mutton chop sideburns did our tour, nice to see he is still going!

Beale Street is class at the weekend. Part of it is rather touristy, but if you ask the locals they will tell you where the real action is.

I really enjoyed Graceland, although it has been sold since I was there and I don't know it is has gone more commercial. Elvis had two planes there, which were worth the visit alone, but they have been sold now. Boo. Hopefully the Restaurant still sells the Love Me Tenders, which were very tasty :)

    'Ziggy Stardust' or 'Sgt Pepper'

Despite the production, Pet Sounds has a few ropey songs.

Yep, I think Pet Sounds is well over rated. So is Sgt Pepper by the way. Song wise Revolver is better. (Yellow Submarine excluded of course :)) And I prefer Let it Be to Abbey Road, again, stronger songs all round I think. The Let it Be naked version that McCartney commissioned some years ago is excellent I think.

Off-topic if I may, for an incoming radio documentary that should be good.

This Bank Holiday Monday, Will Leahy presents a documentary about the 'Trip To Tipp' to celebrate 25 years since Feile 1990.

    RTE Radio 1 at 2pm :)

Jammy alright! At the time you could only look in to the studio from a separate space - still have the shot glass though!

Hello, it's all about Francis Albert Sinatra this week (and next week), who would have been 100 this year. A new Four Part HBO Doc on Ol Blue Eyes starts on Friday, and a bizarre Prom tribute to the Voice of The Century. Who else would you get to celebrate Frank Sinatra than ... **needle scratches** ... Seth MacFarlane from Family Guy.

He weighed 13 pounds when he was born (Frank, not Seth).

    Friday

7.30pm & 12.35am The Joy of Easy Listening
Documentary charting the history of the genre, from its emergence in the 1950s to its heyday in the 60s, through its survival in the subsequent two decades and revival in the 90s. The programme explores the people behind the songs and the mark they have left on modern life. Featuring interviews with Engelbert Humperdinck, Richard Carpenter and Jimmy Webb

9pm & 2.05am Sinatra: All Or Nothing At All (Part 1 of 4)
New series. Four-part examination examination of the life, music and career of legendary entertainer Frank Sinatra, told in his own words in archived interviews, along with commentary from those people closest to him. This first episode focuses on Sinatra's birth to his early years as a roadhouse performer, revealing the influences behind his meteoric rise

    10pm Pop Go The Sixties
Classic archive moments from the 1960s, including music by the Who, the Tremeloes, the Kinks and the Shadows

10.15pm Friday Night at the Proms: Seth MacFarlane Sings Sinatra
A celebration of Frank Sinatra's 100th birthday year, live from the Royal Albert Hall, London. The John Wilson Orchestra is joined by Family Guy and American Dad creator Seth MacFarlane to perform a selection of memorable songs from Sinatra's years with Capitol Records, including Let's Face The Music and Dance, Come Fly with Me and I've Got You Under My Skin. Also taking to the stage are actor-singer Jamie Parker and jazz musician Claire Martin. The evening is hosted by Clemency Burton-Hill and Clarke Peters

11.35pm Sings The Great American Songbook
A compilation of archive performances of hits composed by American songwriters including Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Johnny Mercer and Harold Arlen. Featuring music by Shirley Bassey, Bryan Ferry, Captain Sensible, Jamie Cullum and Florence and the Machine

3.05am Top of The Pops: The Story of 1978
Documentary about the change of musical direction in 1978, when pop singles were slowly ousted by disco, punk and new wave artists. The programme features contributions by members of the Boomtown Rats, Squeeze, Boney M and Sham 69 - among others - and archive performances by the likes of Elvis Costello, the Undertones, Ian Dury and the Blockheads and the Jam

    11.05pm (BBC2) Film: Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll
Biopic of highly influential punk singer Ian Dury, examining his lifelong struggle with the disability caused by contracting polio as a child, and the impact his rise to fame in the late 1970s and volatile personality had on those closest to him, particularly his son Baxter. Starring Andy Serkis, Bill Milner, Naomie Harris and Olivia Williams

9.35pm The Imelda May Show (RTE1)
The singer-songwriter celebrates Ireland's love of music with chat and performances musicians including Lulu, Damien Dempsey, Ray Lynam and Aldoc filmed in front of a live studio audience

    Saturday

10.55pm: The Irish Rock Story: A Tale of Two Cities
Documentary telling the story of how rock music evolved in Ireland over 40 years. The film demonstrates how the sounds that emerged were grounded in the musical traditions of the island's two main cities, from the pioneering touring showbands of the late 1950s through to the modern day. Richard Dormer narrates an examination of how the harder sounds of Belfast merged with the more folk-centric traditions of Dublin, celebrates some of the key musicians to have emerged from the Irish scene, and reveals how they were influenced by the political, social and cultural climate of their surroundings. With contributions from U2, Sinead O'Connor and Bob Geldof

11.55pm Irish Rock at The BBC
A compilation of Irish rock performances from the early 1970s onwards, with acts including Thin Lizzy, Ash, the Undertones, Stiff Little Fingers, U2, Sinead O'Connor, the Pogues, Imelda May, The Strypes, Hozier and the Divine Comedy. The programme features clips from a variety of BBC shows, including the Old Grey Whistle Test, Top of the Pops, and Later with Jools Holland

12.55am Sings The Great American Songbook
    as above

11pm The Imelda May Show (RTE1)
    as above

    Sunday

    10.40pm Chalkie Davies: Rock Photographer
Documentary following the preparations for the former New Musical Express photographer's first major exhibition at the National Museum of Wales in Cardiff. Chalkie, who became a favourite among punk and new wave bands such as the Clash, the Specials and Squeeze, looks back on an extraordinary life behind the camera, while old friends including Elvis Costello reflect on how his images have proved so enduring

11.10pm Sinatra: All or Nothing At All
    as above

12.10am Friday Night at the Proms: Seth MacFarlane Sings Sinatra
    as above

8pm BBC Music Live from Crumlin Road Gaol (BBC1 NI)
Coverage of the first-ever televised music event from the unique surroundings of the former Crumlin Road Gaol in Belfast. Performers include flutist James Galway, the Ulster Orchestra, indie band Villagers, vocalist Andrea Begley and the Belfast Community Gospel Choir

Some other bits and bobs there too, including the BBC trying to explain the history of Dublin and Belfast Rock in less than an hour.

In Fairness, apparently your man Seth MacFarlane is a proper Sinatra fan and knows his stuff. Sure if all goes pear shaped they can stick on some Family Guy repeats, it's what Frank would have wanted!
