Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Anyone have any idea where I might pick up some New Japan Pro Wrestling stuff? Seen a bit of it on British Eurosport 2 and it looks good enough.

www.purodvdsource.com is very good. $5 for recent shows and the maximum delivery charge is $5. A lot cheaper than any other sites I've come across. New Japan has been the best Japanese promotion this year as far as I've seen and heard

Cheers. As Im fairly anal on these things, are they originals or copies. if its the latter, no good!

The only place I know of that sells official New Japan dvds is the New Japan site at http://shop.njpw.co.jp/pcshop/php/goods_list.php?CNO=11. Fairly complicated unless you understand Japanese. The first site I mentioned always has great quality dvds if that's what you're worried about though. www.ivpvideos.com is good too

gamestop are doing a 3 for 2 on all wrestling dvds at the mo, picked up the horsemen, road warriors and king of the ring 2002 for 53 quid yesterday which aint bad

i was down in clare for midweek and got the monday night war, history of d-generation x and the stone cold truth for 28 quid under the same offer in gamestop hehe

about the collection i only really got into wrestling about 5 years ago and dont really have many dvds but i have all the ppvs from the last 4 years (minus one or two) on video from taping them off sky sports, i know i shouldnt do it but its better than paying 35 euro or so for the wrestlemania dvds. (although i probably will buy them when video dies out)

The whole original releases vs live airings have been done to death. The DVD releases uses to have good extras, buildups to matches, making of commercials, heat matches and interviews, but WWE have made a hash of those unless it's any of the first four popular PPVs. But they're often edited.

The live airings are usually where you have all the proper music, botches etc all intact. So it's really a matter of personal preference and how fussy you are with picture quality. One serious piece of advice is if you have a load of videos and free time, invest in a dvd recorder and transfer em to dvd, then get shot of the tapes, you'll have a safer backup of your collection and you'll save a sh*tload of space ;)

Thanks for the heads up on that one. Luckily I managed to order a set before they sold out! Also I just found this site: www.wrestlingflix.com and they have a great deal on wrestling DVD'S. You can pick up 3 TNA Best of DVD's for just over €30 shipped and PPV'S are €12 each so it might be worth checking out.

What irks me about WWE and Rey Mysterio is that they totally refuse to acknowledge of his unmasking, and therefore leaving out some killer Filthy Animals stuff. :(

Bet if WWE were desperate enough, they'd stick Kanes mask back on (and then probably pretend the unmasking never happened) but thats another rant for another day.

Amen, and here's why I have so much respect for Dusty as well.

He came to WWE in 89 and immediately Vince buried him. Stuck him in an unflattering polka dot outfit, had some of the most humiliating vignettes to introduce him "You can't beat my meat!" being one of them, threw a big-ugly female manager who looked worse than he did.

And he STILL managed to get himself over. So Dusty will always get my respect.:)

John Cena's "My Life" DVD will be three discs. According to Amazon.com, it will be released on November 6, 2007.

Shawn Michaels' DVD "Heartbreak & Triumph" will be released a few weeks later on November 27, 2007. A two disc set.

Which i am really hoping to check out, i hope they do a decent documentary with it, he already has a 2 disc set of matches.

And i really REALLY hope they don't include the ironman match. It's on so many DVDs at this point it's silly!

I laughed at this Shawn Michaels have had a 20+ year career filled with classic matches and he gets 2 discs while Cena has had a 5 ish year career filled with mediocre stuff and he gets 3 discs

I know Shawn has had from the Vault before but still!!!

John Cena has had a dvd before too Word Life but i dont know whats on it so I wont comment

Well Triple H has had 2 DVD's out so far too, one solely of matches (That Damn Good), and i believe he's getting another one too.

Shawn's one will be complete if they just avoid all the matches on from the vault as there is tons on that.

As for the Word Life DVD, it really covers up from 2002-2003, and a lot of it is a silly ass documentary (as it was done before WWE knew how to produce DVDs properly!), stupid plugs for his album, a rehash of the bit he did for Before they were Superstars. The only good segment of that DVD are the battle raps.

And yes, i have it. I was in the UK at the time and had some sterling left to get shot of before i boarded the plane! :o

Usually what happens in these threads. Problem is not all of mine are boxed, my WCW and shoot interview collection are converted from videos and are held in carry cases, so my cabnets of DVDs really don't do my collection justice.

Depends on how ya want to present it. I was a big menu freak at the time, so i used a TV capture card, set me back about 200 euro at the time but in 2004 that was a lot cheaper than a DVD recorder. Then dropped the menu's in afterwards.

If menu's aren't an issue, find a cheap dvd recorder for about 130-150 quid and copy them over. You may need an anti-macrovision lead for some original tapes to copy over though.

Time consumption - well that depends really, it took me six months to do mine. I'd get 3 done a day, one when i got back from work, one before i went to bed, and one before i left for work the next day. It really depends on how big your library is ;)

Thanks for taking the time for replying man, much appreciated. If i was to use a simple DVD recorder, would it require me playing every single tape through from start to finish in order to transfer it? Also did you find yourself having to use say 2 discs for a 3 hour tape or is there a way around the fact that most commercially available DVDRs seem to be only 120 mins long? thanks again for your help.

Apologies to mods for taking this off topic but it is useful info and maybe more people than I will benefit from this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,602 ✭✭✭✭ShawnRaven

    Not a problem dude.

Don't mind the 120 min thing. It's 120 mins on the highest quality, but if it's coming from VHS, it's not gonna improve so you'll get away with 3hr mode. But i wouldn't go past it. If yer recording stuff off digital TV i'd split for 2 discs, but from VHS ya can't go wrong with 3hr mode.

It's analogue to digital though so it will require recording in real time, playing each tape through from start to finish, i generally left it on in the background and went about my day, as i said, one before i went to bed, one before i went to work and one when i got home. You generally get into the routine.

It has to be done that way, regardless if it's a recorder, or a capture card.
    Hope that helps.

Goddamn you're quick of the mark!!!:D

Sounds rather straightforward the only thing stopping me is my chronic laziness in getting stuff like this done.

One last question, do you lose any quality in sound or picture in the transfer from one medium to another?

Sounds rather straightforward the only thing stopping me is my chronic laziness in getting stuff like this done.

One last question, do you lose any quality in sound or picture in the transfer from one medium to another?

You do and you don't, depending on your equipment.
You'll lose a little video quality, it's not noticable on standard televisions, but it's noticable if you sit too close to a HDTV. I can do some screen grabs from stuff i've done before and pm ya the link later.

I gots ta run now tho, should be back in an hour or two :)

I'd say they did. That entire Royal Rumble was patethic with only 60 second intervals (was meant to be 90 seconds but Hart/Nash went into overtime). So as a result, the thing only lasted about 38 minutes.

I'm just glad that f*cking Ironman match didn't make it on.

I'm also pretty sure the "Brown Pants" story was relating to those awful things he wore at Survivor Series 02. Didn't he lose (or was ribbed and was taken) his original clothing for that show?
