Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Actually just remembered there's also a t shirt printing place downstairs in the eyre square shopping centre. Down near where the food place is.

Does anywhere in the City or County hire tweed suits for a wedding party? Looking for something a bit different without having to buy the lot

    I don't think so but try www.galwaysuithire.ie
You could always check the secondhand shops or actually buy a new one, they're nice.

Good man, thanks. I actually saw their site earlier but disregarded them after looking through their selection. Fired a mail of there just in case

Looking for some tyres for the wagon. Anyone know somewhere reasonable that'll supply and fit them?... Cheers

Any man play with a GAA club around the city? Don't mind where in the city or out towards Salthill just want a second or third team I can play football and have the craic with without bitching and moaning if I miss training, can't stand that carry on at home.

I think most clubs will just tell me what I want to hear so I'm asking here.

Depends on how cheap you want them & whether you want new or part worn.

Either Brendan Byrnes from Byrnes Tyres Oranmore, or Karol Collins from Ballybrit Exhaust & Tyre Centre have great reputations.

Can anybody recommend a roof cleaning service in Galway City or County. Preferably the soft brush approach....not power hose job. It is for a dormer bungalow with roof measuring 225m2. If anybody got this job done, can they leave message or pm me. Just want to be sure before I go ahead.

Ivor's motorcycles in Westside do lawnmower repairs- they might sharpen blades too?

Top three hotels in Galway City Centre?

Must be kid friendly and walking distance of the city centre, with parking. Any help?

Not sure if there are 3 left in city centre.
For kid friendliness you need to move out from the centre to more space. I'm thinking somewhere like the Connaught would be ideal for little ones.

The Radisson is popular with families because of the pool etc, it's just a couple of minutes walk from Eyre Square and has a multi-storey car park attached.

You will have to compromise on some of these wishes.
The bigger, child friendly hotels are a little out of the city.

As mentioned, the Connacht would be a good bet. Good for kids, pool etc. Not easily walkable to town.
Radisson has a pool but may be limited on other child activities.

A good bet would be the Galway Bay Hotel in Salthill. Great for kids, good pool and it's right on the prom in Salthill so good for walks and sea-spotting. About a 20 min walk into the city centre with kids but it's a nice walk and Salthill has a lot going for it.

Another thing the Connaught has going for it is walking distance to the Eye Cinema. Perfect for a couple hours entertainment for the young uns.

I am looking for the Kelly family who at one time lived on Ballymoneen Rd in Monalee Heights neighborhood of Knocknacarra, Galway. I believe family consisted of Charles, Charlain, Sinead, Louise, and Bernadette. We are still receiving mail for this family even though we notify post office to return to sender. Wish to contact them with names of companies trying to locate them. If anyone can provide me with a contact number or address or any suggestion, I'd be grateful.

I'm not sure it's such a great idea to post all the family names on here. Could you contact the auctioneer/real estate agent from whom you bought/rented the house. Or ask the neighbours.

If it's second class post, post office are probably not going to return to sender, so it will keep coming to the address unless someone contacts the companies to say no longer at address ... you.

I'm looking for a restaurant for a grad meal, my four years as a student didn't include much fine dining. I'm looking for somewhere with good food (not fussy on the type) and not ridiculously expensive

    any suggestions would be great

B+C in Ballybane industrial estate. I know they have paint for yachts, boats etc so I'm guessing you might be lucky there.

By any chance, would it be Amarena cherries you are looking for? There was a time within the last couple of years when they seemed to be available everywhere. Sounds like you've had a good look in most of the Galway shops but I would also suggest Marks and Spencer, Joyces Knocknacarra, Sheridans deli beside St Nicholas's, the new Italian deli in Woodquay and maybe even Evergreen. You probably want them sooner rather than later but you could also get them from Amazon, delivered by Parcel Motel. These seem to be the original and best amarena cherries - I never saw anything this ornate in Galway: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Fabbri-fabbri-Amarena-Cherres-Opaline/dp/B004TT44RI/ref=sr_1_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1474119488&sr=8-2&keywords=amarena+cherries. Best of luck with your search.

A quick google and read around other threads on the topic seem to mention quite a few different companies including Greaney Glass, C&R Glass and Glazing, as well as ideas to buy from B&Q and either DIY or get someone to fit it then.

Might be worth ringing around a few different places and get some ideas/price quotes from them.

Depending on your budget... Meyrick is probably the handiest but pricey. House Hotel is quite nice too and cheaper.

I am looking for an Internet cafe in Galway.

Need to access ticketmaster at 10am tomorrow and I don't trust the phone app as these are tickets that will sell out fast.

Edit, found one that opens at 10 and she said she will let me in 2 minutes early. Phew!

House is nice but anytime I've been there at the weekend (late evening) the music has been ear-splittingly loud. It wouldn't be my choice for a weekend away with the other half. Meyrick is nice alright if you get one of the rooms in the old part, I hear the rooms in the newer section aren't as nice. Definitely the closest to "a little bit special" and central.

What about OMG on Shop Street? An actual Ticketmaster outlet)

I called some place, can't recall the name, who are a ticketmaster outlet. They said they wouldn't be selling them as it is a presale release.

They will only have the general release ones on Friday.

Got sorted, put my faith in the hospital WiFi and managed to get the tickets.

Feckin scandalous prices for the second row from the back but needs must.

can anyone recommend someone who buys in cars from the uk who could maybe get them a bit cheaper than a regular joe and who can also help in getting rid of current car?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,926 ✭✭✭beardybrewer

All the regular dealers are already doing just that except they're keeping the difference. At least a dealer will take your trade-in and maybe offer a warranty. Watch out as a lot of UK write-offs are pawned off here. Check out dealers in the North as deals can be had if you import it yourself which isn't really that hard. However, you probably won't make much use of the warranty if they're far from you.

Pro tip: A paint thickness meter can be bought on eBay and used all around the car to ensure consistent readings. If any filler has been used it will spot it and save you buying a car that's been in an accident. You'd be really surprised how perfect they can look to the untrained eye.

What BeardyBrewer said is pretty much bang on.

If you are looking for dealers who deal pretty much exclusively in British cars 2 that I know of around Galway are Westlink motors and Woodland Motor Co.

If you do decide to import yourself give this thread a look. It's full of great advice and people are usually very responsive to questions. There are savings to be made on some cars and it's not as hard as some people think. The only problem is you'll need to get rid of your own car yourself
