Mass Effect - love the 80's cyber punk scifi vibe to it. The Faunts for the end credits just fit perfectly.

Deus Ex - again, cyber punk dystopian feel to it.

Unreal Tournament - some class tracks in that game.

Metal Gear Solid - just pure art.

The Wipeout games had some great dance/house tunes in them that really made those games.

The Halo OST- A Walk in the Woods and Under Cover of Night are tow top ones for me.

You don't really notice it much when you're playing. It's great though. It manages to both fit in with the retro graphics and sound great in it's own right.

Homeworld 1 and 2 have the best scores of any games I've ever played. Despite not having played either in about 5 years, I still catch myself humming some of the tunes from it from time to time.

Whatever about games having yet to mature as a storytelling medium, they mastered music a long time ago and even low budget games often have incredible soundtracks.

To be a little predictable Dark Souls - I think the music (and in parts lack of it) catch the mood perfectly.

Of course Wipeout 2097 atom bomb being my favourite.(Edit:Not an OST but still good)

I did like FFVII score especially the ending.

The Halo 3 OST stands apart for me. It was the first game I played were I actually felt anything for a soundtrack and hearing it today triggers some great nostalgia. There's some truly epic pieces in there, my favourites being "Greatest Journey and "Never Forget"

For me Nier had the best soundtrack in years.

Shin Megami Tesei IV is pretty epic in terms of soundtrack as are persona 3 and 4.

Shadow of the Colossus for me, ordered the cd from Japan after playing the game for about 2hrs

Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 have both amazing scores, Fluffy Bluff Galaxy and Gusty Garden are two tracks that sum up the utter joy those games are to play.

Metal Gear Solid 2 - Sons of Liberty - Hands down the best soundtrack ever. Improved massively on the midi original.

Final Fantasy 7 - Sadly all midi but still an awesome soundtrack.

Super Mario World - Hard to pick a winner out of the mario titles but this is where it started for me and that soundtrack is just timeless.

Wipeout series was a constant source of awesomeness.

Homeworld and Berber's Adagio for Strings d brilliant.
But the big one for me, as mad as it sounds, was Everything Must Go, by the Manic Street Preachers, the Chemical Bros remix.
It was used in the opening cinema of Gran Turismo and I spent a number of years trying to find it, eventually I found the alternate CD single it only appears on, some 6 years later!

Ridge Racer Type 4 - (PlayStation 1999) Not the most accomplished soundtrack, but it puts me in a time and place with a discreet pinch of adrenalin and endorphins.. :pac:

Definitely FFVII. I know everyone says it, but half the experience of that game was the soundtrack.

That Distant Worlds orchestral cover is just amazing.

Love this as well. It would definitely be on top of my list if had these orchestral versions over the midi in game.

I wish Square would pull the finger out and just remake the game. You're never going to top this lads, just remake it already.

this one from Max payne 3 gave me goosebumps while playing, it really fit the end of the story nicely, a kind of fatigued broken down relentlessness to it. gave the last level a great sense of closure. that game really exceeded my expectations for it.

Games in the Dawn of War series (nearly all of them) have had excellent soundtracks. Really capture the mood of whatever race you're playing.

Top of the pile from those games was this track, always got the blood pumping when it came on.

You can't go wrong with most of Soule's work, to be fair. To create the soundtrack for Total Annihilation at the age of 21/22, that's some achievement.

Inon Zur-fallout 3 OST. Beautiful ambient soundtrack that captures the desolation and horror of a post apocalyptic world without being obtrusive.

Game is a masterpiece, and the music plays a big part in setting the right atmosphere. Bleak and harrowing with a tinge of regret about the whole thing.

Worst part is the music is often overlooked and underutilized because people never turn off galaxy news radio when exploring the wastes.

Can't believe I forgot this: One of the most underrated & misunderstood games of last gen and the theme song is epic;

Oh and this for Fun: Loved this song from Starcraft 2; Loved the atmosphere and tone of the story, this type of music added to it.
