Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Was going to be a day one for me, not so much now. I'm going to wait it out and see what happens in Japan first I think. It's popularity has waned incredibly quickly.

Even though it's not without its issues, I wouldn't let me enthusiasm wane at all because it's such a kick ass console.

Ok long load times, big time tanking in Nippon, stupidly placed buttons and a high price are all big issues for it but my god it is bloody fantastic and as pornographic as a handheld can get.

It's reason enough not to buy one right now I think, for many factors resulting from those gripes.

as pornographic as a handheld can get.

Not a handheld, but the PC-FX is the clear winner here. Probably for all eternity too. :)

I'll still get one, just not at launch.

Well I myself am going to hold out for at least a couple of weeks for those reasons aswell in the hope it drops a few quid just like 3DS.
I still want one really badly because of how awesome it is.

Smutty alright but where will the finger prints go :pac::pac:

The launch line up will ensure I won't be bothering with it for a while. Hopefully by next Xmas it will have established itself, & dropped in price enough to warrant buying one.

The load times are concerning though

My main concern is the load times alright, I wasn't expecting them to be so long especially with cart based media

They say you learn something new everyday, today this is true.

MetalSlug 2001 on Gameboy Colour, never knew of this game until today, played it and it is really glitchy, so glitchy infact that you can almost fly when jumping.

Ace Attorney 5 is on its way, according to Famitsu. Grand stuff, my other-half'll be thrilled. That'd be impetus for Capcom to localize it, right? Right?.........

I'm pretty sure Metal Slug 2001 is a pirate and not an official game. So that'd at least explain the buggyness!

Edit - holy ****! That looks amazing! Gotta be an SNK port that was canned which some pirate got hold of? Apparantly the only release of it is a game called 'Terrifying 911' - an obvious pirate game, which looked like Metal Slug.

    This requires more investigation!

Skip all the weird 9/11 ****e and go to 03:50. - Is that real?

Can you flash the bios on one of those Taito G-NET boards easily enough or do you need to send it off to be done?

Might be getting one so just wondering what my options are.

Finished uncharted 3. Enjoyable but not a patch on the second one and felt a little rushed. The heavily armoured enemies where a bad design decision. Also some cheesy one liners don't equate to good writing.

From what I can gather it's a send away service,
but some places are looking for as much as 150 to flash the rom and a few bits like a PCMCIA adaptor for the CF Cards.
I got mine for 150 complete via a guy Kerbdog knows.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,328 ✭✭✭Pyongyang

Reckon I got mine from the same person you did. Flashing the CF is easy, the BIOS is a send-away service, correct. It does cost a few bob, even from the same seller.

Thankfully (I assume) Adultappleflavouredbeveragemale and I both have the 2011 BIOS. I think a new one is due soon though to make even more games available for it. Remember it's not just dedicated G-Net titles it plays, which is another reason it's so good.

...and Night Raid is still heavily dunked in vast cauldrons of MEGA. What a game!

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 34,630 CMod ✭✭✭✭CiDeRmAn

I will have to watch out for that new Bios, depending on the new titles.
It is a lovely thing, the G-Net, not too sure about the visuals in G-Darius though, a bit too pixelated for me.
RayCrisis and Super Puzzle Bobble are great though.
I'm getting a few more CF Cards this month, eventually hope to collect enough so I don't have to reflash my favourites, maybe 10 or so.
I wonder, what sort of controller do I need for RC de Go?
I get that it's some sort of analogue device but how is it wired in?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,885 ✭✭✭Steve X2

Cheers lads. I think I'll grab the one on offer to me and get the bios flashed a little later on.

That does not look like the game I was playing, where is the flying characters:eek:
Looks more like the GBA version but it's not, must delve deeper into it as it's a bit confusing.

If there is an official metal slug game on GBC then I'm gonna need an original cart

Got a batch of Sugru in the door today.

I wonder if I could use 4 bits of it on the worn rubber under the D-Pad of my megadrive controller,
to stiffen it up a bit.

    Stumbled upon this video also...

Just gave the Azura's Wrath demo a go.

It's pretty horrific. I know it's supposed be done in an episodic shōnen anime style. But it's everything that's horrible about the genre. Everyone talks to each other in absolute cliches. It makes Yu-Gi-Oh look like Shakespeare. Also it sounds like they only have exactly 1 voice actor!

I think you're supposed to be looking at the action sequences and going 'Yeah, that's f*cking awesome!' but you're actually thinking about how f*cking stupid it is.

One fight in the demo takes place on the moon, you get impaled by a sword that stretches over a huge distance to hit you (borrowed from Gin's attack in Bleach) and then it keeps on stretching and pushes you towards the Earth and when you hit the Earth it goes through your body into the ground and then through the Earth and out the other side of planet.

It's a shame as CyberConnect2 have always done a good job on the Naruto games. And Naruto is a good shōnen series that for the most part handles it's over the top action quite well.

Great docu-movie thing on Netflix about the rise & fall of pinball. The link will be dead unless you can access US content on Netflix. Well worth a watch & be warned, I now officially want a pinball machine, whereas 90mins ago, I'd no interest at all in owning one.

    It's called Special When Lit

There is a nutty multi pinball.machine emulator out there and I have heard folk using a large LCD tv laid flat with another smaller one as the score board, mad as hell but cool.
Of course, with current TV prices you could build one for 500 or so, you'd want to really love pinball though!

Thanks for the link, I'll definitely seek that docu out. Absolutely love pinball. I'd love to own a table but besides the lack of room for one, the TLC and maintenance required to keep them running is a bit of a deal breaker.

I'd love to play Doctor Dude again. Absolutely adored that table. :)

God damn ****ing CDI. I'm not sure what the **** is wrong with it. First the drive wouldn't work whichI thought might be the ribbon cable because it's next to impossible to get into the socket and I'm not even sure if it's fully in. I resoldered all 6 wires to the CD drive then really pushed in the ribbon cable which might have screwed it up. So then it the motor was making horrible grating noises but at least it played a music CD. Wouldn't load a game though and now won't load music CDs as well. Hope the motor isn't burnt out. Going to have to give it another go after lunch, Sauron is home giving out to me about not looking for jobs and the fact that the kitchen is ina mess

Well I am going to say that I have just got a Philips CDi 210, I have not yet connected it up to the TV.....Waiting till Halloween so I can scare the c**p out of myself, as it is soooooooo bad a system.....

It is my second one ( yes I am a sucker for pain, I have the Atari Jag and CD drive ):p
The first one hard the issue were it would not read CD's or even spin them. The guy that sold it to me was kind enough to take the system back and swap it for two other systems. I will be collecting the games form him for the Philips system later this week. As I have not been feeling well......for the last few days.

This one spins the disk but as I have said I have not connected it up to the TV yet will do that later.

I will let you know later how I got on ( or if I surived the ordeal ).
