lol this is hilarious!! "Shut up with you and your facts"

"Dublin is the capitol of Ireland"
-"Fúck off you freak, I disagree"

I've never actually seen a debate on here where someone is actually accepting that something is a fact, yet disagreeing with it.

Understand something here ok i know what it is but i actually dont care.

Just because you,s get your links and your facts and the rest of your ****e and throw it up here all the time that does not mean i have to agree or like it.

Thats the beauty of having your own mind you think for yourself.

What is it with certain groups of people that if you dont except and embrace them that they get so uptight about throwing ****ing facts and statements in your face.

Unfortunately not everyone sees things the same its just life ok.

If i dont like something theres not much you or anyone else can do about it. Weather its a condition or not changes nothing.

Yeah! Let's not let science and fact get in the way

I never heard transgender until a few years ago. People used to always use transvestite for some who got a sex-change operation.

Actually, transvestite's are just people who wear the opposite sex's clothes. They may well be otherwise heterosexual.:)

There is something called Gender Identity Disorder, which is a recognised medical condition and classed as a disability in Ireland and many other countries (even Iran!). Essentially, it means that someone self-identifies as being a woman in a man's body or vice versa and can undergo a process that involves hormones, role acting and, eventually, reconstructive surgery. The treatment involves painstaking psychological and medical checks and takes years.:( If the patient is a man, the big snig:eek: - removal of the lad and its replacement with a vagina that even a trained gynaecologist wouldn't immediately recognise as anything but natural - comes right at the end. Before that, the person will have been legally granted a status as a member of the gender (s)he has opted to switch to.

Employers are required by law to make "reasonable accommodation" for a person who becomes transgendered. There was one interesting case in Ireland last year, and I think the judge got it just right:

In fairness though, I don't think angerfist is disputing the facts, just expressing the point of view that transsexuality makes him feel uncomfortable.

Refusing to believe verified facts is not the same as having your own mind.

I won't say what refusing to believe facts actually is.
Are they really verified though? To me it seems the whole transgender thing is still pretty much up in the air with everyone having a different view on it. The idea of someone being born a man but really being a woman is alien to me, I can't wrap my head around it. But that's me. I certainly wouldn't view it as a mental illness though.

For what it's worth, personally I don't care. If they want to change gender that's up to them. I personally couldn't date a girl who used to be a guy. I'm sure plenty of guys feel the same, and I'm sure plenty of girls feel the same about the opposite situation.

Ultimately they are women in the eyes of the law and in day to day life, but when it comes to the romantic side of life I'd still think it was a man. If I am being unfair or rude or crass there I'm sorry, I'm not meaning to be controversial or annoy anyone (especially as it seems there are some transgender people reading this thread). Just saying it as I think I'd see it if the situation arose. So while you may be treated pretty much the same as someone born your new sex, you'll never be seen as exactly the same as someone born your new sex.

I think most transgenders are aware of this though, I don't think that'd come as a surprise to them. :)

I think her point is she does not care about the facts because it will not change her opinion. Trying to explain facts or posting links is a waste of time, this is her point. She is not disputing the facts.

yes. there are absolutely loads of peer reviewed studies showing the physical nature of transsexuality, and as I've linked earlier, they've even identified "transsexual genes"

Well Links234's links seem pretty trustworthy to me.

But it's one thing to feel uncomfortable about being sexually or romantically involved with a transgender person: it's quite another to spew vitriol about transsexuals and call them "freak shows," say they have psychological defects, and get angry about them identifying with a particular gender, as people have elsewhere in this thread.

I'm sad to admit that I would probably hesitate about being in a relationship with a transgender woman: it's a prejudice and it doesn't mean I'd never get involved with a transgender woman, but I'm just being honest and think lots of people, unfortunately, would have that initial hesitation too.

But that doesn't mean I don't think transsexuals aren't regular people who should be entitled to the same rights as everyone else.

I'm always amazed and appalled in equal measures when trans subjects come up in AH, it's so strange to see what utter filth is evidently perfectly socially acceptable for most.

You're talking about human beings, seriously, what the fuck? I'm not even talking about the comments that have prompted outrage, a lot of what's passing under the radar really would not be acceptable in relation to any other group.

    No, not at all.

I was thinking of the other posters who clearly just hate any transgender person, to the point of disregarding facts completely (as opposed to reasonably questioning them) if they disagree with their hate-filled worldview.

Thankfully, most of them have been scared away by said facts.

Thats the beauty of having your own mind you think for yourself.
And ignore strong evidence that is contrary to how you think? If there were more people like you, we would have no new scientific progress, we'd still be living back in the ages when germ theory was an absurd notion. Admitting you are wrong in the face of strong evidence and changing your opinion doesn't make you a fool, or any less independently minded.

To be honest its not that it makes me feel uncomfortable i just dont take the whole thing seriously.

You can be born a man with the mind of a woman or visa versa and have a sex change and want to live your life as a woman and believe thats what you are and thats what you should be excepted as but bottom line is your not a woman your a man who had surgery to look something like a woman.

Far as im concerned i could not care less how my point of view comes across weather its viewed as ignorance or hurtful or being a prick to a fellow human whatever end of the day i dont really care.

I wouldnt even normally be arsed to comment on this kinda crap only for the fact any time the word is mentioned on here the same bloody brigade come out in force and parades THERE problems and forces them on everyone else. You either except us or your wrong.......

I could not give two ****s if your black white man woman gay straight whatever just dont expect the whole world to want to embrace what you are. And if you think pairing up with people on here to win an internet debate is gonna change that good luck :)

It says you know your views are ignorant.

It's like me coming on here and saying all black people are freaks and not worthy of being accepted for who they are. I know I'm being ignorant, I know there's no facts to support my view yet I'm still going to maintain my view.

Nope, don't expect anything from you and believe it or not I do feel sorry for you. I'm not trying to be patronising, I actually do. I dunno, maybe it's because I come from a very reasoned, scientific background. When someone refuses to debate or accept facts in front of them, it just makes me feel sorry for them. Maybe it's just because I love learning new things and I'm always open minded, yet strongly opinionated.

But enough about me, why is it that you "feel so strongly" about this subject? Why do you have such disgust for breathing, living, human beings?

By the way, I've had debates with transgendered people on here before. I don't agree with everything some of them have said on here. I have my own opinions too. The difference between me and you is I'm not ignorant.

I think it's stupendously unlikely that there are any such facts, but I'd be happy to look at them and change my views accordingly if they convinced me.

So please, share any links you have.

There are so many high horses on this thread I'll need to construct a bigger stable tbh.

Transgender people have equality under the law. Outside of this people are allowed to form their own opinion of them as they desire.

There's also a lot of talk about 'facts' here. It's funny how facts only matter when the majority on AH at a given time agree with a specific viewpoint and gang up on the one or two.

Lastly one can't help to notice that this thread has been hijacked by those who are seeking total conformity of everyone on their personal social and political values while attacking others opinions, how 'tolerant'.

Transgender people have become little more than ammunition of social-political views here, blah. Same political culprits as always.

If you have some facts to back up your opinions I'd be happy to look at them. I doubt there are any, but if there is convincing evidence that transgender people are freaks who try to force people to accept them then I'll believe that's the case.

I think it's stupendously unlikely that there are any such facts, but I'd be happy to look at them and change my views accordingly if they convinced me.

So please, share any links you have.

Would you ever just listen ok and jump down off your horse for two seconds.

There are no facts on what my opinions are there just my thoughts on how i see certain things in the world.

If you dont agree with what i think thats fine thats your choice your allowed that much.

    Perfectly reasonable question to ask.

    I understand your position perfectly.

I'll just say that I find it sad that you're not willing to change your prejudice and leave it at that.

To be honest why should i?

If we all just folded on what we feel no one would have a different opinion.
