Posting something thats been posted before in the thread isn't a problem, its when a re-post occurs within 3 or 4 pages of the first post.

That is a fair enough point man but i just think of it from the other side. Like imagine someone gets or comes across a funny picture, do you think they will have the time to trawl through all 187 pages just in case? Even the last few pages would be infeasible if they were in work for example.

It took me a week to get through the whole thread, but i also have to say people posting that it has been done just takes away from the thread itself i would delete these posts and do as the recliner has done to snip the reoccurring images and put in the edit line the reason.

I never said they had to trawl through the entire thread, my point was that it makes sense that there would be re-posts in a picture thread going on for 187 pages. Re-posts in a thread that size are to be expected, and if they are around 7 or 8 or more pages apart then I doubt anyone takes notice.

The last few pages is not infeasible. You find a funny picture and you post it, its not a mad dash like "OMG I HAVE TO POST THIS NOW! I FOUND IT!" I used to be like that when I started posting here, and then I copped on and realised other people use the internet and find funny images. When you do check the thread after a day or two theres normally an extra 2 or 3 pages added, so you're going to click through them anyway and see whats been posted. Its not unfeasable to expect someone to click through 4 or 5 pages to see if their image or video is there, if anything theyd get more fun out of it.

If you find a video, picture or news story online and you want to post it as a new thread, you check the forum first and see if its been posted already. Common boardsie sense. I'm not expecting anyone to search through the thread for their image, and you wouldnt expect anyone to trawl through the pages on a forum to see if their thread was started already.

And yes, everytime I now see "It's been done.", I die a little inside. :(

Just a thought, but would it be handy to sticky the Photoshop Picture Suggestion thread when we start to run low on images? It seems to just fall right down the list once Tuesday comes around. I'd suggest even using some of the images from You Laugh You lose if they don't have text in them.
Also thought about what would happen if Laugh You Lose became a no chat thread? Case and point, http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055873286&page=186 , quoting just to tell someone their picture isn't funny. If you want to chat, do it with another image maybe? Something along the lines of "I AM DISAPOINT" or "I LOST" or even "NOT FUNNY" as the case may be. Theres plenty of these images floating around the web.

I was the same myself (bolded parts) as were many other boardsies but the thing is we all had to learn, other people might not be as on the ball as me and you :D

Everytime i see "it's been done" i hear the simpsons did it from south park

Can I ask what are people's opinions on a charter for this forum

To be honest I would rather that we could keep it to the basic site tenants of "Don't be a dick" and "Don't post porn or anything that will get the site into trouble"

Given the nature of the forum I don't think there is much need for more than that but I am open to suggestions

How about a rule that says "don't quote large images". It's really, really annoying.

    Right.
That's as good a start point as any.
    I've started a sticky here:
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056037068
So let's just write a damn charter and put any good rules of thumb in there. We can just link to the parent forum charter for the rules and what not but rules specific to here should have a sticky.

    I'm great.
    Great meaning large or immense.

Great meaning answered in less than a minute, are you two telepathic?

The only problem I had with the You Laugh You Lose thread was when people would quote a post containing six or seven pictures just to say "I lost so badly", rather than just thanking the original post. This issue has been addressed in one of the mod notes so hopefully it won't happen as much. :)

Just keep up the good work really, especially Recliner, alot of the posts in YLYL thread are edited for being quoted large images / reposts, it's really appreciated.

Have to say this is one of the best forums here imo. Good for passing a boring weeknight.

One idea for the photocomp suggestion thread would be that each week, the previous week's suggestions be deleted when the new comp starts.

Reason being that sometimes people continue to thank suggestions from the week before. There is only seven or eight suggestions each week so it wouldn't big too time consuming and would just make it clear which pics are in the running.

When Frada started the comp he also sported a Banner Sig that linked to the Photocomp, so thought maybe we could get a few of us to do the same?

Maybe a side comp to design a banner for it and maybe also for the forum itself perhaps?

Ranting & Raving had a similar thread.

I'd also think there could be an issue with the thanks feature in the Comp thread, as my entires seemed to get thanked far less than others, might be a glitch of some kind there that could be looked into maybe.

Other than that, great forum and well moderated.

Good suggestions above Pete, I will get started on them this week :)

On the thanks thing I don't see how there could be a problem, it is a different thread each week and I can see the thanks button on each of your posts, I think thanks works at a forum level so I would imagine that if you were experiencing a problem that everybody else would be too

If you genuinely think there is a problem and I am missing something then I would suggest starting a thread in the Site Development forum and Ross and Connor can have a look

I think Outlaw might be a little less than serious on that point. ;)

Anyway, have to say, ylyl is vastly improved the past week or so, much kudos on that. The vids thread does seem to be holding itself afloat.

Sorry man, I was only messing there, should have included a smiley.

Was just some sour grapes humour of mine, hitting the tumbleweeds as usual, just like my photocomp entries tongue.gif

Would I get away with it if I was to say at this point that I knew all along, no?

OK so, I will get my coat

Any chance we can just ban chat in ylyl? All the moaning wrecks my head. I don't find everything in it.funny either but it costs nothing to keep scrolling.

It is tempting and I agree that it is unecessary to comment and say you didn't find it funny or just be bitchy about somebody posting something in the wrong thread etc

I generally just delete such comments as I come across them and people are very helpful in reporting them (Thanks guys and Girls) but obviously they might get left up for a while before that

My reasoning behind resisting banning of chat is that sometimes there are very funny updates or replies to pics which can even make the unfunny ones funny and I would be loathe to lose that, also if someone doesn't get a pic/meme people are very helpful in explaining it and i wouldn't want to lost that

I anyone else wants to post their views here then feel free, I will probably post up a poll in a few days and try and get a concensus

Not sure where to put general feedback for a particular thread - with "no chat" allowed - so picked here..

Is it possible to split the "you laugh you lose" thread? The meme posts are just monopolizing it now. Give them their own thread.

Any chance we could keep the photoshop comp for pictures that are actually photoshopped? It tends to get alot of caption & storyboard entries. And while some of them are very funny I think they take away from the entries that people spend time photoshopping.

Maybe have a caption comp run along aside the photoshop comp using the same images but seperate thread?

Can a seperate thread for rage comics be made so as to declutter the YLYL thread like there is the demoticational thread?

There are just too many of them and lines seem pretty drawn on those who hate them and those that like them.

Considering how many thanks they get, I'd say a lot of people still like them.

Multiple threads would be a mess. It's grand the way it is. Some people seem to not have the abilty to scroll past posts that don't interest them. Same goes for reposts, I don't see what someone's motive would be for reposting on purpose, so never understood the outrage personally. The wraith they receive surely would negate the few thanks people get for such posts.

Anyway, I say it's grand the way it is.

One addition I would like to see in the thread is that when someone posts something they themselves have put time and effort into creating, in the post title they mark it as 'Original Content' - as I am usually very selective in the posts I thank but if I thought someone had gone to the trouble of creating the 'image/comic' themselves, I (and others I feel) would be far more generous compared to say pics that users have just found while surfing online and posted in YLYL for thanks whoring/sharing purposes (which, is what the vast majority of my offerings have been on the thread so far :p).

Is there any reason why the Garda photoshop compition was cancelled at the begin of this week (assume somthing legal). no explenation was given to why it was deleted after a couple of hours and the current one started.

My contribution was quite good... :P

Was wondering that meself....and why it was renamed "The slightly less offensive photoshop competition"

I don't think anyone is saying that they're not popular, just very polarising.

As much as I hate the same "herp derp, BOLD RED TEXT, FUUU" in every single comic, I just scroll past and ignore them.

Tallon, please refrain from posting screengrabs from your own Facebook profile in the future. They wind people up and I'm getting fed up of all the fallout from it.
So it's ok for other people to post them, but not me...

Grand, just adding that to the list of never-ending-made-up-on-the-spot rules....

I'll know for future reference, thanks

This is getting ridiculous. It's not fair to keep singling out one person, even if they do annoy you.

No, no it isn't. I could be entertaining though

I'm sorry if this is off-topic but I find Tallons facebook screens funny most of the time.. If people can't refrain from chattering about them then it's not his fault, it's their problem.

    My 2 cents

  • Registered Users Posts: 58,456 ✭✭✭✭ibarelycare

I'm actually regretting posting this the other day. It was meant as a lighthearted "revenge" to the post that Tallon made involving me, two posts above that, but it seems to have opened a floodgate of bitchy posts, including this, this and this.

I'm probably going to be infracted/banned for posting this on here but I don't care. There's bullying going on on this thread, plain and simple.

I only recently discovered YLYL and I have to say that maybe 20% of the time I think Tallons posts are funny. Do you know what I do for the other 80%??? I scroll past... I advise others do the same rather than seek ways to get annoyed and offended.
