I should mention that the link there is for the SR, is that the new ultimate? It has carbon spokes anyway so the image is just for the decals on the 2011 range, they are not Astra's actual wheels in case anyone decides to point that out. I have a reputation to protect, I'm kind of a big deal*

Dude, you know you don't need any cheesy lines to snag Tonto. A shot of limoncello will work much better.

My tolerance is higher than that. Then again you mightn't know since you're always in bed after three drinks

Astra, looks very nice indeed...did you get the wheels from Jedi sports? Graphics look like the 2011 SR to me also!

Thanks. I got them from Jedi sports indeed, the decals are different than what they have on the pictures, but the weight doesn't match the 2011 model. Maybe just new decals to match the new model?

No they are 2011 SL, the SR is higher up the model range, lighter hubs and carbon spokes. I only grabbed the first image off google for reference, see my last post.

You are right, I somehow was under the impression that apart from the decals there was a weight difference. Well.. it's good for me anyway :D

Not quite sure. Just tried it on the bathroom scales and it only went to 6 kg. Then on a smaller kitchen scale, will have to get back to you on it.

I've just finished building up a couple of bikes for my son and daughter based on these cheapo frames from CRC.

    Bikes004.jpg
This first one is a road bike for now but it'll take panniers, full mudguards and up to 32c tyres so can also be used as a light tourer. It has a full 105 5600 groupset (except back brake which needed a 57mm drop). Wheels are Planet-X Model C's courtesy of D4r3n. Total weight is just under 9kg and the complete build was around £600.

    Bikes001.jpg

This hybrid weighs about 10.5kg with those shockingly heavy steel forks (£7 from CRC:pac:) so could easily be taken below 10kg with lighter forks. Parts are mainly whatever was going cheap on CRC, e.g. £5 headset, £6 bottom bracket, £6 saddle, £3 front mech, £7 stem, etc.:o. Special thanks to tomasrojo who generously donated the 7-speed freewheel:). Total build cost was about £225.

Not quite "images of beauty" perhaps but I'm delighted with them. I've taken the road bike out a few times and it doesn't seem much different to my Ultegra equipped Planet -X.

you'd think they would have made the calliper mount look a little less errr ....of an after thought ?

I assume that's for "fenders", not brakes.

    what this bit

    Disc brake mounts.

edit: oh sorry, you mean "disc brake caliper mount" rather than "caliper road brake mount". My misunderstanding.

@Lumen: Can you please stop calling it porn, I've been told it upsets the lurkers :)

It may seem like chivalry to you, but to me it just looks like carrying someone else's handbag.
