Yay I'm not alone so :)
(just to confuse folk I'm the op '5 penguin bars' but reverting to my usual username now)

So how is everyone keeping so far? anyone feeling the wrath of morning sickness?
I'm useless with the tiredness at the moment. I could literally sleep for Ireland & still be tired!

Hope you're all keeping well :)

No symptoms to be honest - If I didnt miss a period, I would not have had a clue. Tiny bit more tired than usual, and boobs are sore to poke, and nipples have been slightly tingly..

Edit: The odd twinge in the tummy, but thats normal.

No sickness or anything yet, but do seem to want to eat /drink stuff I shouldnt - Like Carbonara, Luckily I found a preggers friendly version on the interwebs.

I found the same the first week or 2 Neyite, its gas, all the lead up to taking the test/getting the positive, then its like 'is that it?!'

Definitely starting to feel a bit more pregnant now & from about 6/7 weeks on :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 634 ✭✭✭staticdoor71

ive been quite ill, but only mon-fri before work.. so hard to say if its the work or the pregnancy :D

was soooooooooooo tired but feeling a little less now...

its all a bit surreal really but have first scan on 27th, hopefully it will make it all a bit more real :D

Sick isnt the word. I was fine until last week and then it hit with a vengence. Was with the doc last week and she certfied me off for 2 days because of it. Even had diarrhea. Was in work thurs and fri and wasnt too bad but not great again sat, But yesterday was sick before work and approx 4 times in work. Trying to avoid when others in the toilet or staying in the cubicle until they leave. Now lying in bed, had to ring in sick again as was sick this morning again and havent got an ounce of energy. Soooo tired. But hey suppose it is a good sign. Have to keep positive, it will be worth it.

    I'm 7 weeks since yesterday :D

This having no painkillers craic is killing me though. Constant cramps and/or needing bathroom ain't sexy! Is it normal to have niggly cramps constantly?

I hope so, because I am too, no bleeding or anything like a little uncomfortable....

Are we all 1st timers in here???

i am first timer. and a lil confused over dates. if i go by first day of lst period i was 7 weeks sat giving a due date of 21st April but when i was with the doc she said my due date would be 23rd April. i dont understand that. i suppose i will know more once i have a scan. Mind whats 2 days when it comes down to it anyway.

  • Registered Users Posts: 110 ✭✭Shuwaaah

First timer, was 'passively trying' (letting nature take its course)....then decided it wasnt the right time and accepted a place in college and then I found out. Now college is being put off for a while and I'm being laid off from my job but so excited about the pregnancy (despite the aches and pains). I'm told I'm due on the 29th of April.

Awh congrats. :) nice gap between them. you can be our guide for next 8 months so, since a few of us are first timers and not sure what to expect.

Awe thanks a million, congrats to you all too!!

Yeah sure ask away anything-but im no expert! I'm trying to remember what I was feeling at this stage on the last pregnancy.
My head is alot clearer though as more "planning" has gone into this little one!

To Schaaah-I did a course during my pregnany, part time 2 evenings a week from 6.30pm-9.30pm,it was tough but I'm glad I did it then. I finshed up the course a week before my daughter was born and sat the exams when she was 5months old. Unfortunatley I havn't used the course qualification in my "career" and probably won't but if it's something you definatley want to do then don't rule it out just yet!

Same as that, although nature took 2 and a half yrs!! But i did manage two years in college to keep my mind off it so that was time well spent I guess.

Im confused by the dates too.. According to my doc im due 4th April, I know im due 6th april (as i can pinpoint conception), making me 9 weeks and 6 days.. Surely that just means im ten weeks?? thats the bit thats confusing me (easily confused i know:confused:)

I know its only a minor detail, but i wanna shake this up a bit and make it go faster :D

Had to order button extenders today as im too fat for my normal clothes and not fat enough for maternity clothes!! :( although my friend assures me i will be wishing for the day im not fat enough for maternity clothes soon enough :D

Hi all. I'm 7 weeks this Friday. I'm feeling ok. Very tired and some cramping. I fainted last week, scared my OH to death. I worked a 12 hour shift the day before, didn't eat much and was on my feet for most of the day so I think the baba was telling me to cop myself on:D

Lovely to see some of the ladies from the trying to conceive thread.

Caprilicious – that’s exactly it – when TTC it’s all week to week, day to day charting and dip-sticking and shagging, then waiting. I had that for 2 years and I’m at a bit of a loss at the moment, partly relieved, but partly feeling out of my depth and thinking “what now?”

I have an existing prolactin issue, which meant that as a non-pregnant person, I had symptoms of pregnancy boobs. Now that I had to stop the meds being pregnant and all, I don’t know whether I have Prolactin boobs or Pregnancy boobs, because they feel exactly the same.

I am defiantly more tired – According to WTEWYE Book, there is a lot of work in months 1 & 2 happening during our sleep in there, so, though I get the good nights sleep, my body is in overtime mode and it’s not getting as rested as it used to.

It feels reassuring to be in the company of others that have little pregnancy symptoms yet. I’m trying to be more positive, I read too much about risks on the interwebs prior to getting pregnant that now I’ve gone and scared myself – cyberchondriac that I am – not doing that anymore. It’s gonna be a long 3 weeks until the scan....I’m focusing on the fact that I have little twinges /dull feeling going on almost constantly in my tummy. Nothing you could even call a pain or an ache, but its there nonetheless and that I’m knackered, to reassure me that all is ok in there! :)

Mine is full-time, I've already got a Level 7 but was changing course this year, so have to do 3rd year again and 4th year. And have to do them fulltime. :( I've a friend who had a baby at 19 and went on to do her degree, she's starting a masters this year and she had very little support. I'm lucky to have more support than she did, it'll be hard going but I want to get there, she's a great inspiration to me and though it'll be extremely hard, it'll be best in the long run.

Congrats to all, by the way, especially the ladies who have been trying for a while! ;)

This is no. 2 for me, I have a little girl who will be 2+2 months when no. 2 arrives all going well!
We were trying for just over a year after having a miscarriage at 8 weeks, so I'm on tenter hooks being back at the 8 week mark again.
Thankfully I have a scan in the morning so I'm hoping that will give me more peace of mind.

Neyite I love that term 'cyberchondriac' :D I'm avoiding Dr. Google like the plague as I know I'd have myself hyperventilating otherwise at this point at the different niggles, aches & pains!

Shuwaaah fair play to you completing your course while pregnant, I hope it goes well for you :)
I'm only doing a level 6 at the moment & by distance learning. I've 4 modules to complete by Xmas & have no idea when/how I'll get them done when I'm constantly so tired

As for the dates, its gas everyone wants theirs to be sooner - I wish the hospital would set my dates as later because I know I was ovulating later and that I'll more likely be due a week after the dates the hospital gave me (April 23). I'm telling myself I'm due early May :)

Suucee, you poor thing, that morning sickness sounds really bad :( I hope it eases off as you reach the 12 week mark (or sooner!)

Saggycaggy, how are you finding the tiredness with having a 3 year old to mind too?

I hope my tiredness wears off soon, I'm good for nothing these days with it! I'm sleeping about 15 hours a day & still feel tired! when I'm awake I've energy for nothing!
Hopefully its a very good sign that there's a lot of growing going on in there :)

Custard Cream, I hope you're taking care of yourself now and cutting back on the work hours (if possible).
I'm the same with the eating though, eating v little as I don't have an appetite for much these days so I've a tendency to get fairly dizzy if I stand up too quick!

Oh no, I got my level 7 last year. I'm not that much of a trooper I'm afraid, going back next year as if I went this year, baby would be due bang in the middle of exams. Fair play for continuing with the course, it will be worth it in the long run. I get where you're coming from with the tiredness though, I could do with sugar or full-fat Coke being injected into my veins to give me a jump-start. Cant even tolerate drinking that sort of thing anymore (probably a good thing) :o

i felt fan-friggin-tastic yesterday, then today back to a puke after breakfast and feeling crap since :(

    its just not fun...

on the upside, 10 weeks today... please please please make it stop at twelve weeks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 814 ✭✭✭saggycaggy

I hope the scan went well this morning Caprilicious, fingers crossed.

Yeah it's hard with the tiredness as I'm up at 6am every morning and not home until 6pm in the evening so im tired enough anyway but I always make time to spend time with my daughter in the evening and myself and husband share the work of bathtime/dinner/story time etc so that helps. I've been in bed this week at 9.30pm every evening!

How are you finding it with a 1 year old?? They keep you busy!

Still no sickness so far for me, I hope im not too bad- I dont want work so suspect anything just yet!
Whenever I did feel quesy on my first child I would have a gingernut biscuit (any excuse for a biccie),ginger is meant to help!

your so lucky Saggycaggy, id give my left nut not to be sick :D ive tried ginger biccies, ginger tea, ginger ale, eating crackers before i get up, after i get up, while getting up, eating breakfast, not eating breakfast... nothing helps, i thought i was over it, as today was the first puke in 4 days, thought it was getting easier, obviously not....

I guess its a case of no pain no gain... :D

thats awful staticdoor71, I do feel for you. How many weeks were you gone when you started gettign sick??

ok so the ginger clearly insn't helping :(
hopefully you're near the end of the sickness!

  • Registered Users Posts: 634 ✭✭✭staticdoor71

6 weeks when it started... (only found out at 5 weeks typical huh)

im hoping and praying only two more weeks left, ill wake up and a light switch will have flicked and ill be all better,

well i may as well dream here as in my bed, right? ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,880 ✭✭✭caprilicious

Thanks saggycaggy, scan went brill today thanks! the midwife was training in another midwife to use the ultrasound so I had a really thorough & detailed scan :)
They're dating me 7w4d which is closer to what I thought myself :)
Thats great that your other half is giving you plenty of support with your daughter :) my little girl is 18 months & a whirlwind of energy!

Staticdoor thats awful with the sickness :( I hate that the way it eases off, lulls you into a false sense of security that its over then kicks back in when you're least expecting it!

The only thing I can manage when I'm bad is toast, last time I lived on rich tea biscuits & winegums week 6 - 12, I couldn't stomach anything else!

Shuwaaah I know the feeling, I could do with a triple red bull most mornings to get me started :D

  • Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 25,947 Mod ✭✭✭✭Neyite

Guys, have any of you experienced really bad period type cramps and that feeling like the dullness ache (but way worse) in the really early weeks?

I woke up last night around 3am. Now, I'm normally pretty good with pain but this, I was gasping and all I could do was lie down on the lovely cool bathroom floor (hygiene was the least of my concerns) and I was feeling clammy and weak. It stopped after about 5 mins, and I've been fine since. No blood whatsoever and boobs still sore.

I'm convincing myself that its stretching pains, I have to otherwise I will worry myself sick. I'm only 5 weeks.

yeah i have had cramping, like period cramps, ever since i found out (@ 5 weeks).. i think its all in my head.

Mentioned it to the doctor, all she said was "any blood"? I said nope, she said "well everyone different your probably just feeling the stretching more than most people".

She said she never had any cramping with her 3 kids, but her sister was like you in agony with it...

So id say mark it down to stretching...

I still get the cramps (@10 weeks), but i just ignore them now, until there is something else with them to worry me... because believe me if i were to go to the doctor with every little twinge or question i had, well I may as well just move in with her :P

Im starting to realise too, that the less you read on DR GOOGLE the better

Yea i was gettin really bad pains also and still pretty sick so rang the nurse for a cert for work just mentioned the pain as had it last week also when i was in with her. Not the usual period type cramp its just on my left side, (ps i had 2 surgerys last year, appendectomy and bowel adhesions) Nurse decided to scare the living daylights out of me and said there may be something wrong and i needed to go see the doc straight away. I was crying before i even got off the phone.

Got my boyfriend to leave work come home and bring me to doc as nurse told me not to drive. Was shaking like a leaf while waiting to go in.
Anyway not a thing wrong,:) actually things good. Pain is due to the stretching and puking and it hurting me so much because of the previous opps and muscles still bit sensitive.

Next time i have a pain dont think i will call her. And i only rang for a cert. Just mentioned the pain in passing.

Neyite I had the same on my first pregnancy, it was so much like a bad period I was absolutely convinced the pregnancy test had either been wrong that I wasn't pregnant at all or else there was something wrong.
It was all just stretching inside.

Thankfully its not so bad this time, though making up for what I lack in stretching pains with an abundance of morning ( read: all feckin day!) sickness and tiredness!

Hope the pain eases off soon x

Omg Suucee I wouldn't be ringing that nurse again in a hurry, she must have given you an awful fright

Still no proper symptoms yet ladies apart from a few cramps but I do always carry a plastic bag around with me for fear il get sick at any stage!

I'll be logging out now as we are off on our holidays for 10days, booked 6months ago so we v.excited-last one for a long time i'd say! Dr. said im fine to travel as it is only a short flight.
I hope the sickness dies down for all and il try and keep up to date on the goings on!

Hope you have a fab hol saggycaggy!

I'm now only managing one meal a day (lunch), no wonder I'm so feckin tired with so little food! I can't wait to reach the 12 week mark to see the back of this tiredness!

Not complaining though, I'd sooner have symptoms for reassurance than none at all at this stage :)

We're telling my folks tomorrow, I can't wait! Just hope it doesn't but the jinx on things (I'll be 8 weeks tomorrow going by the hospital revised dates)

Cap thats so exciting telling the folks :). What was your early scan like? Is it on the tummy or transvaginal? What could you see? I'm all curious about mine.

Still not a jot of symptoms here. Cramps have stopped, as have the twinges. Boobs not as sore as they were, and still no food/sickness issues. Trying not to get too concerned - apparently no symptoms are a symptom in WTEWYE book. I would love though to have some symptom to say "Yep, everythings fine". Going into my 6th week so maybe from here on I will get some.

Thought I'd have a nosy in the April thread as I am due on March 30th and with a history of over-duers in my family I most likely will end up delivering in April :)

Neyite I didn't get any symptoms until 6 weeks and then they hit me like a tonne of bricks, I'd say enjoy your symptom free days while they last. I'm dying for next week when I'll be 12 weeks and hopefully some let up from the sickness and tiredness :)

Hey all, can I join in?

I'm 7 weeks, due on 27th April (realistically May) and have a wee man who's 15 months old. Caprilicious, we were on this board together 2 years ago as well!

My only symptom is the tiredness, which has hit me like a train in the last two weeks and because of his nibs, naps aren't an option:(. I'm only just back in school after the summer, so luckily, everyone else is tired too so the binbags under my eyes and forgetfulness aren't standing out! Have only told my hubbie and one of the girls at work, so will be using this thread a good bit for another while yet! Looking forward to chatting to ye.

    Hello,
I am due on April 2 2012 and am very excited as this is my first baby and we had been trying ttc since we got married two years ago and were begining to worry that something might have been wrong.
I feel very tired over the last few weeks and have been sick a couple of times but apart from that am feeling okay. My appetite has disappeared though, which isn't like me :)

I have my first scan on 20 September and have my fingers crossed that everything will be okay. Is anyone else going to the Coombe?

Hey all, went in for tests on Wednesday and the doc offered me a scan, couldn't see much through the tummy due to empty bladder so he did a T/V, got a good picture and he let us listen to the heartbeat. It really started hitting home, I was so so happy but a teensy bit scared too, but it was great reassurance.

Also got a great tip for morning sickness, try minty things. A friend of mine recommended putting a mint in a glass of water and just sipping at it, haven't tried that yet but got a pack of silvermints last night and they're great for keeping the nausea away! :)

Hey! Im joining in, due on May 15th!!! Just found out a couple days ago. I thought I knew for the last week, felt different but then thought it was all in my head... glad it wasn't!!!

DD was 11 months on friday, if only she knew whats coming :p

8 weeks yesterday and hoping the sickness has eased. Havent been sick since fri, (and think that was the chinese as was feeling fine before hand and kinda stuffed meself) and not feeling sick as often. :). Had tried everything, ginger ale, gingernut biscuits, flat 7up, fizzy 7up silvermints, minntcrisp, barley sweets (ps wouldnt recommend, made me feel worse) eating before getting out of bed, the list is endless. Every time i thought something was working i think i became immune to it as was soon sick again. Ice cold water and lots of it is really all that helps.

Thought it a bit earlier but feel like my tummy is getting bigger already. Thought i was bloated at first but now not sure. Still feeling pretty tired and not sleeping great at mo as keep getting cramps in the middle of the night. But anything better than being sick. For those of you who are suffering try a few of above tips, didnt work for me but might help ye. Oh and a hot water bottle for the cramps is great also. Problem is when you wake up in middle of the night and its gone cold, was tempted to wake the other half the other night to refill it :D but resisted the urge.

Neyite it was definitely after the 6 week mark before I started to get sick then one day literally woke up, had to go straight back to sleep on the couch & barely moved from it all day!
I can understand your anxiety as I was the same til the morning sickness kicked in. Now I'd just love a days break from it!

Deemark congrats!!! I know the feeling about the tiredness. When I'm off I have to nap when herself does. I feel like such a geriatric going for an afternoon nap in the middle of the day!
Hopefully it'll ease off soon for us both :)

Suucee I know the feeling, once I get in the zone of being sick, nothing can get me out of it! though the odd time 7 up does give a little relief, though must be in a can, not a bottle  makes me sound like such a diva :o:D

Congrats littlemissfixit & PonyP on your recent positive results! we're growing quite a group here :D

Shuwaah that's great that you got your scan too & all is well!
Neyite for mine she did an external scan but as I had an empty bladder she did a transvaginal too so was able to get really clear pics & a good strong heartbeat :)

I've attached a pic of my scan, still kind of surreal :)

Its a wee bit fuzzy, but that's the head down the bottom :pac:

Well we told my folks last night. Only it went a lil ar$eways the way I did it! we were out for a meal, my sister & her partner plus my parents were there.
Baba is due aroun tht time of my sisters birthday next year. I had planned in my mind to say 'Guess what sister is getting for her birthday next year......a niece/nephew' & show them the scan.
Except I said 'Guess what sister is getting for her birthday next year' and handed them the scan. They thought it was her pregnant :o:D:D

Capri, thats amazing!!!! Little bitty Cap jnr!

I bet your parents were over the moon. :D

Its gas the way we intend to tell people but it comes out all wrong. When I got my BFP I had it all planned that I would give himself the little newborn GAA jersey and let him guess but I was too giddy and woke him up waving a wee-soaked stick under his half asleep face, roaring at him to check there was a line there. The jersey barely got a look-in!

My sister is the only one that knows, and since my mother is totally crap at keeping secrets we will have to wait until the 12 week mark to tell her, because I dont want her to be the last to know, All of my nieces and nephews I got the "your not supposed to know but xxx is pregnant" weeks before the mum and dad announced their news and I feel that it took their nice surprise away from them. I love my mother to bits but discretion is not one of her strong points!

I am due the week after my sisters wedding (the one that knows I'm pregnant and knows I was ttc). And I will be the biggest bridesmaid of them all (normally I'm the skinnier sister) so the other two bridesmaids will be delighted to stand beside a whale in a bridesmaid dress. :D

Thanks hun :) I have it on the kitchen noticeboard at home & it brings a big goofy grin to my face every time I pass it :)

I've a similar problem with my sisters wedding - 2 months after due date. I just know I'm going to look like a sack of spuds, worse still I'll be forced to go dress shopping with a 4-6 week old baby & v little sleep!
I already tried convince her to get our cousin to be bridesmaid instead but she'll hear nothing of it :D

That's funny, I was thinking of the GAA jersey coming home from work on Friday & wondered did you do it that way!

You'll have to use that to tell your mam, its such a cool way to announce your arrival!

My husbands nan is the same, she'd mean well (she's a lovely woman) but she would tell most the family & I want to wait til 12 weeks before it becomes public knowledge!

hey ladies, 11 weeks today, and just wondering is anyone else around this stage, or been there before.. extremely grumpy  and OVERLY emotional!!!!

I cried last night for an hour, for NO reason whatsoever.. im constantly snapping at my partner and even my cat who is my "baby" is bugging the sh1t out of me. :(

please tell me this is normal and it will bugger off soon, along with the puking and the inability to stay awake after 9pm :(

    Hi Staticdoor71,

Everyone is different of course but at my first pregnancy, I was a nightmare to be around from about week 10 to 12-13, even I couldn't stand myself, there must be a surge of hormones then or something, after that it was followed by 4 months of pure bliss, apart from the odd heartburn, every symptom just vanished until the very last couple of weeks where I just got very uncomfortable, which is to be expected with the size my belly was.

    Hang in there!

    5 weeks 5 days.
Still not a jot of symptoms, but staying positive about it. I am getting tired a bit more easily, so I guess thats a symptom? or am I just a lazy git? :P. Feeling a bit blue for no reason, so maybe a bit hormental too?

OH caved and told a mate last night, so now we have each told one person. I am so proud of myself - I didnt think I would be so good at keeping stchum.

Early private scan on 28th. Will be 7w5days then. Exactly 2 weeks from now we will have gotten to see whos on board. As long as I see one strong heartbeat I will be over the moon.

    How is everyone here?
