Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Just thought I'd make a thread on Cork GAA seeing as noone else has made one already. Feel free to talk about anything about Cork GAA, especially hurling and especially the Senior Hurling Championship.

I only started it around five minutes ago. I know, it's strange seeing a Clare GAA thread in a forum and not a Cork one.

Wouldn't be surprised if Jamie Coughlan got a chance the next day. He's more of a corner forward than Luke o Farrell imo.

Anyone hear about the St Nicks footballer that went on as a sub, ballooned the ball wide and stormed off the field into his car?

Crazy..... going out onto the pitch with your keys....I mean really!!

Hadn't heard about it, they lost anyway. It would have been even more hilarious if he was the last sub they could have used.:D

Its still a very light full-forward line. I think you can't beat a big physical full forward

Light?? Paudie and hoggie are both 13 and a half stone!

Will be interesting to see if they keep up the tactic of trying for goals more. In light of the lack of them in the tipp game vrs the chances they had and the goal feast they had against Laois, they must be well motivated to get the green flag waving.

  • Registered Users Posts: 94 ✭✭SigersonCup

I still don't see what people see in Paudie Sull, he scored 3 goals in his last match..yeah, that was against Laois. He's never played well against any decent opposition.

People were saying that he's getting used to it now and all that, they were playing Laois.

Aswell, what is the story with Cadogan? He got cleaned out in at least two inter-county matches this year. Last year he got destroyed by John Mullane, and Lar destroyed him aswell..

What do people see in Lorcan aswell? All I seem to hear is that he showed a few nice touches in midfield blah, blah, blah. Yet what he really did was pick up a few loose balls and gave off a pass.

He hasn't played well for a while now, but I would prefer to see him in the team instead of Paudie Sull anyway.

Happy enough with that team and there are a few on the bench that could just as easily be starting, they will deliver if called upon.
I'm still not overly keen on Luke in the corner - too light and he really doesn't inspire confidence. Cork should win this, especially if they can do a good man marking job on the main threat that Offaly have.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 33,171 CMod ✭✭✭✭ShamoBuc

I see the Echo have the latest goings on down at the County Board. Apparently they have contravened GAA rules in its appointment of a sub-committee to deal with Frank Murphy's successor. Never a dull moment down the marina!

Elsewhere.... Rory Hanniffy is back at centre back for Offaly for tomorrow's game. Once we can snuff out Dooley I would be confident enough of winning.

what do people think of the new underage setups. rural clubs are finding that the playin of all the different age groups at the same time a killer.for example the u 13 + u15 should be played in different months to u14 and u16

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 33,171 CMod ✭✭✭✭ShamoBuc

That could be a problem alright. Maybe because it is a newish system, it can be tweaked in some way for the future.

    a big........ PHEW

very good result given so long with 14 men.
Offaly will no doubt be disgusted given their amount of bad wides!

Should there have been more than the one minute added? Cork will be delighted to escape with a win. Good result considering the Pa Cronin sending off. Championship so far has been very even apart from the Laois hammering last weekend.

Cork very lucky but a win is a win as they say! Major improvement needed before July 9th in their next game.

I would like to think they will be better plus alot of the game was with 14 men.
I would prefer to get Galway or Wexford than Limerick or Clare for that game.

Me too. Was quite impressed with both Limerick and Clare. The more games they play the better they will get.

I think we have a few worries on our hands. Cronin will be a loss, with kenny not firing a full throttle at the moment, the likely replacement.

Cadogan was shakey at times, and not as commanding as he has been in the past. Teams will almost certainly look to try an exploit this.

On the plus side, hoggy was class again today.... a scoring machine!

Seriously looking forward to Sunday. Going down to Killarney is second only to Thurles on Munster final day. It's a great location and there is always savage banter between the fans. As always, Cork will bring a large following to the Kingdom and this year, as with recent years, they'll travel in a confident mood.
I am expecting a tight enough game but for once I reckon Cork will bang in a few goals against Kerry and pull away to win by 5 or 6 - a bold prediction given our history in Killarney, but this time we travel across the county bounds as All Ireland Champions!!!!

I'd favour Thurles. There is a savage atmosphere in the town centre and as you walk up to and back from the match. Killarney has a great atmosphere with a wonderful backdrop but there is something special about Thurles. Either way, it's very easy to look forward to a trip across the border!!

The team to go into battle on Sunday has been named......

    1. Alan Quirke

    2. Jamie O'Sullivan 3. Graham Canty 4. Michael Shields

    5. Noel O'Leary 6. John Miskella 7. Paudie Kissane

    8. Alan O'Connor 9. Aidan Walsh

    10. Ciarán Sheehan 11. Patrick Kelly 12. Pearse O'Neil

    13. Daniel Goulding 14. Donncha O'Connor 15. Paul Kerrigan

Very solid looking team I think, well capable of securing a victory over the auld enemy.
Delighted Canty is back to lead the team. I think that forward line will score a few goals. The defence has always been fairly reliable. Roll on Sunday !!

Agree. Plus you have the likes of Cadogan, Carey, Nicky, Gould etc on the bench if needs be.

  • Registered Users Posts: 372 ✭✭ontheditch2

Have to say, i prefer Killarney way more than Thurles.

I am mid 20s, Hurling background, but i feel the Cork Footballers have a more cultured clientele supporting them. In Thurles you are likely to see young lads flaming drunk making a show of themselves on the square. You never have that type of carry on in Killarney. Lads with no tops on, pissing in the streets and leaving a general mess behind, is common in Thurles. In the terrace, i am after seeing at least 3 fights between groups of cork fans. I never seen anything like that in Killarney.

Maybe Thurles just became too common during the Glory years of the mid 00's and i seen more of this carry on.

Very true, our bench is ridiculously strong. My only gripe is the 2pm start, much prefer the extra drinking/socialising the 4pm gives you:D
