I'm in Carlow too, would really love an upload like that but I guess I'll have to put up with my "measly" 20Mb from Vodafone :pac:

    Why cover the ISP?

Not want the rest of us to have those speeds eh?

It's not a public ISP so not available to end users.

    Oh wow.

I have no idea how you cope.

Judging by your attenuation you're probably getting the most out of your line, although barely.

Someone might be able to comment on that though.

So is it the line that's the problem?
My neighbours line comes from the same place(pole) and she's getting 5 times the speed I am.

Attenuation doesn't make sense, you should be on a very low upstream if that was correct but you aren't. As per other thread its time to call vodafone.

Not related to broadband speed but did anyone else have an issue with Vodafone Fibre about 30 minutes ago?

Internet light was red and reboots wouldn't fix it.

Seems to have sorted it out now.

You think that's awful? i'm with vodafone broadband and i get 2mb MAX normally around 1.5mb real world speed. I was told 2 years ago by eircom that the line can't hold anymore or it will become unstable. I'm in work at the moment so cant post exact details yet. I'm located outside balbriggan in north county dublin and my "broadband" is the bane of my life at the moment :-(

Its awful relative to what he should have, not awful nationally.

You should look into fixed wireless, that kind of line is unlikely to ever improve.

How do you mean fixed wireless like dongles Three/Vodafone etc? or satelite broadband?

    Something like http://www.digiweb.ie/home/broadband/metro

FW is terrestrial dish, kinda like a sky tv one that points to a mountain or hilltop mast, not into space. Satellite has huge latency and cost issues, fixed wireless can be very effective with normal latency.

the vodafone wireless router for fiber optic is absolute garbage, im in attic, and the router is in middle floor, pretty close to attic, and im currently gttin 0.5-4mb/s on internet speedtest

While in middle of house they get 40-50mb/s

I even bought one of those usb wireless extenders for my laptop and its still this bad

Maybe powerline adapters would be a better bet? Any way you can run cat 5 up?

Depends on a lot of variables, it requires line of sight, close enough proximity to high site and a high site that they have loaded with too many users!

So basically the only way i'll know is to get them out?

Or find a neighbour with them and ask. In the same locality with similar line of sight you'll get the same results.

Metro is a good system and uses the same technology as Cable companies (DOCSIS 2.0) and a wireless bit in the middle.

Generally people have a pretty good experience of it overall.
