Thanks for posting was only thinking about asking if you knew the routing.

Bagnalstown-Heuston expect that to be an 08.15 start to avoid Heuston peak and trains cross at 08.40 there. Would assume platforms set up in Wateford is what's causing it to do a 40 minute journey to Bagnaistown. Would of been nice if it was using the long platform, probally the only platform on the newtork that could take the full size of just about at 371.2m

    215 & 10 MK3s on Dundalk-Connolly trial run passing through Gormonston on Thursday 18-Aug-16.

How long is it going to be delayed in starting. A person I know was to be on it this week and it was canceled. Going via car now and got a huge discount off another tour from Belmond.

Happened to see the belmond hibernIan at Heuston today, was very impressed with the finish, particularly liked the last carriage, the observation carriage, which had a window replacing the back door of the train.

VSOE in action and a run around in Kildare. 216 looks very classing in the Belmond livery.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,309 ✭✭✭dowlingm

Great video. I wonder if Belmond had gotten a 610x that it might have been an even better observation car with the driver windscreen. Even then it's going to spend half its time facing the power given the preponderance of run-around over wyeing on IE/NIR.

Still no automatic LC at Buttevant?

the Belmond set doesn't have to show UIC numbers?

They are exempt from the requirement.

    Evening all,

216 made another evening run to Portarlington tonight gathering some more data after its recent issues, departing Inchicore at 1955. Tomorrow is D Day with the first public run of the Belmond Grand Hibernian to fare paying passengers.

50% of the time only thing visible will be the back of a 201

BELMOND GRAND HIBERNIAN carries first Guests on week long trip of Ireland.

Photos from the launch of the Belmond Grand Hibernian at Heuston prior to its first departure for Cork.

The train arrived from Inchicore shortly after 1030 with 226. 216 was then coupled onto the other end and the set was washed and placed back to Platform 2 for loading of catering supplies and for final preparations to take place.

The first guests on board the train were a group from the USA based "The Society of International Railway Travelers". The group arrived from the Merrion Hotel in Dublin led down to Platform 2 by a Bag Pipe musician shortly before 1400.

Once there a informal meet and greet took place with a Champagne reception and Irish Dancing.

The train departed from Heuston at 1420 hours bound for Cork, its first stop on the week long tour. Over the course of the week the Guests will visit Killarney, Galway, Westport, Belfast & Waterford.

The train was hauled by ex works 226, IE deciding not to risk the blue liveried 216 which has being giving some issues lately.

    What's wrong with 216?

It seems the curse of IE non-matching loco's strikes again, even with a multi million private operation.

Most certainly not, even the RPSI cravens display the full EVN's, though to be fair the RPSI could exempt themselves on the heritage grounds.

Since the set will go cross border it will have EVN's with the magic -t code

Did we ever think that we would see the day! Apart from 216 misbehaving, the staff uniforms look like they came from War on Want - is that standard Belmond attire? Anyway, good luck to the enterprise.

Yes they are exempt, the EU Directive aswell as the Irish and Northern Ireland transposition of the directive does not apply to heritage rolling stock or rolling stock used for touristic purposes.

The RPSI and Belmonds use of EVNs is optional.

Were they being ironic naming rail carriages Fermanagh and Donegal?
I do hope that it doesn't hold up regular services.

Already fixed several times, didn't want to risk it happening again with the passengers onboard until satisfied the problem has been fully eliminated.

216 is also in need of it's decal application.
