Make of this what you will but I find it hard to believe that the bosses deliberately went out of their way to search for a car that has a number plate which reflects the Falklands war.
Even if it was a piece of tongue in cheek humour it seems like the Argentines can't take even a modicum of a joke.
So they have now been escorted to the airport and told to leave.
    Opinions?

Was bound to happen them eventually.

Dangerous to assume everyone is in on a joke.

Surely has happened before, in other countries? Also someone will probably post that Stewart Lee video.

Haven't read the article but I love Argentina even more than I did before if they kicked out that shower of gob****es (Top Gear muppets).

And one they're definitely not lacking is a sense of humour by the way.

The Malvinas/Falklands is an extremely contentious topic there and you'd have to understand that before you comment.

Edit: Just read the article and yeah, probably a bit of an overreaction. Still glad they got kicked out though.

Rearrange these words to form a sentence, winner gets a special prize

    Stunt, publicity

The war's over maaaaan. Just forget about it.

In the immortal words of Roy Walker,

It's good, but it's not right.

My opinions, w/o seeing the show:

    1) Of course they got those plates to be inflammatory.

    2) it's all scripted.

    3) the lads are insufferable.

The sinking of the Belgrano was a war crime.

    Opinions?

It's hard to think without a video of Mr Chips and his antics!

Great, Jeremy Clarkson is a prat and doesn't know what humor is ...

Maybe the Argies should just chill the f^7k out and gone along with the joke......

........waited until the three annoying tw@ts were in the car and let fly with a salvo of Exocets!!

......or done a Sir Gallahad and set fire to it!

I suspect Top Gear would be happy producing jokes about the Falklands as long as they're doing them in Argentina.

Local officials said the Porsche had the license plate "H982 FKL" which they felt was a reference to the 1982 war between the countries over the Falkland Islands....

...Top Gear bosses have said the plate was merely a coincidence and was not chosen deliberately.
Both the numbers and the letters appear to refer to the war - that truly is a remarkable coincidence!

(Not in the least bit similar to the kind of puerile attention-seeking for which Top Gear is so well-known.)

    I can't believe ITS SCRIPTED!

Some say they have a small army of script writers for the show, and they actually know fcuk all about cars at all.

Still think it was an over the top reaction by the Argentine Government.
Yes, Clarkson has a habit of fecking things up but I do enjoy watching May.
At the end of the day it is a comedy car show, of course all the accidents, feck ups are scripted but they are not to be taken seriously.

Assuming the first character has to be a letter I am guessing that it's H982 not I982 because the letter I wasn't available.

Or like the mumbled N word or the use of the word "slope" for a crooked bridge it's got plausible deniability.

Of course it's scripted. The races are scripted. Who wins what is scripted.

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,736 ✭✭✭✭kylith

Whether or not they did it deliberately it means that the Argentinian government has produced a licence plate that alludes to the Falklands war. They should throw themselves out of the country!

I enjoy Top Gear, but everyone knows to expect naught but twattery from them at this point.

That's an episode of Top Gear I'd happily watch.

Talking to Argentinians about the Falklands is like talking to Americans about Guns and Religion. Its and extremely emotive topic there.

No harm having that shower of clowns kicked out.

I don't care about cars but I can watch the specials. If they lost the low level bigotry it would be better.

I'd imagine it was an English plate, not an Argentinian one.

    Agree with the rest though.
