Good start. He is down for Diamond league in Bislett should be a great opportunity for fast time

Hession ran 10.47 (+0.7 wind) in his heat of the 100 in Hengolo. He didn;t qualify for the final.

Hazel Murphy ran 16.11 in the 5k.

THey were the only Irish involvement that I can see.

And a 46.1 relay leg, anchoring a young Clonliffe quartet to a club record of 3:14.07.

    What would the line up be you reckon? I'm thinking;

    O'Rourke/Proper/Whelan/Brady

Foster and Kiernan couldn't be discounted either.

after a year and a half without racing kallur opened her season with a win in a time of 13.14 in the 100m hurdles in Palafrugell at the weekend

another few races and she will be back to the top of europe's 100m hurdles..... worrying signs for derval.......though derval looks to be in good shape with a 11.70 on flat at the weekend.......

Did our national champion p**s on somone's cornflakes or do some people genuinely think that Ailis McSweeney is our seventh ranked sprinter at the moment.

:o Good point, glaring oversight. She was part of the fast quartet used at Leevale with DOR, Proper, Whelan so is right in the mix. Good show of depth, more so than the men indeed.:o

Joanne Cuddihy is arguably the greates asset on the 4x100m team, with a 23.38 200m this season to her name; faster than all the short sprinters.

    I'd have a whack at:

    O'Rourke - Cuddihy - Proper - Brady.

Foster, Whelan and McSweeney are obviously all in contention to be in that relay pool too.

I don't think Kiernan's times have been that great this season, IIRC.

What are the chances of the AAI getting 4 of these athletes together in a race to achieve the time?

In fact, same question for womens and mens 4X100 and 4X400.

It's one thing to talk about having the athletes to run a time. It;s a massive step to actually get that team together and qualify.

There has being relay practise going on lately team is going to geneva in two weeks the five who are going is DOR Proper Brady Mcsweeny and Whelan intresting to see who will run should be four fastest if there is no politics involved.

I think Claire Brady (11.60), Derval (11.70) and Kelly Proper (11.70) will be on the team for Geneva, last place then between Niamh Whelan and Ailis McSweeney. Could go either way.

    Strong team no doubt.

I think you missed Rose-Anne Galligan.....good bet for the future... to be Irelands first ever Female Sub 2 Minute 2 Lap Woman?

  • Registered Users Posts: 307 ✭✭TrackFan123

    Good to hear, doubt the men will have a team competitive enough in the 4x100 to warrant taking to Barcelona. 4x400 though possibly with Hession running a leg a la John Regis when GB won the World Title years ago. Doha was a shambles but obviously we shouldnt send people who can only run a 48 ... if its after the 400 final which it should be, the best team would be;

    Gillick/Gregan/Hesh/McCarthy

Strongest two on first so we dont fall to far behind the Brits (france and belgium wil lbe strong as well), Hesh latching onto the third leg runner and outsprinting him down the home straight :D and McCarthy using his 800 strength to hold off Martyn Rooney to bring home Gold for Ireland haha :D:D

Strong enough team, seems to be a few spots still to be confirmed.

Scullion is an interesting pick for the 1500m. Has he begun his track season? would have thought young McCarthy would have been first choice after his 3.43 opener?

  • Registered Users Posts: 16,119 ✭✭✭✭Pherekydes

Scullion has already run 3:45 this year, but isn't he down to run the 10000m in Marseilles tomorrow? Picking Dave Mac (the little one) would provide cover for the 8, 15, 3 and 5 if anyone got injured/ill.

Any Irish down to run tonight in Oslo?

Chamney is down for the 1500m "development" (not the dream mile).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27 letsbefriends

    alan o brien? david mccarthy?

why not have chamney double 8 and 15? he has yet to run an 8 and his 342 is the fastest of those available for the 1500

    strange decisions in fairness

  • Registered Users Posts: 568 ✭✭✭DangerMouse27

That 4x400m line up will be interesting,i could pick Gregan/Gillick and McCarthy but its a toss up for the last spot..Gordon Kennedy even.
Hession shouldnt be let out over one lap in a relay just yet,he would blow up something shocking in the final thirty and would be too tired to get a clean baton change..for an athlete who has trained for 100s and 200s,to ask him to run for the team on a 4x4 might be unwise and taking advantage of him

Chamney clocks an SB 3:39.02 in Oslo.

He beat Nick McCormick as well so great run. He didn't beat "one" of his arch enemies (Olmedo of Spain) though!

Just looked at mens 5000 metres. Lagat broke the American record (12.54). Solinsky ran 12.56 as well

10 lads under 13 minutes! I remember when Dave Moorcroft almost broke 13 in Oslo. WR back then.

Scullion has been ruled out of the 10,000m EC as his qualification time from the AAA 10km Road Race has ben judged ineligible.

Kennedy broke 48, running in very windy conditions, in Bedford last Sunday. So def have him on the relay.

Hilarious, isn't it? The last placed finisher, in 17th, clocked 13:18 or so.

What an 800m, too. 3rd and 4th were under 1:45, but the commentators didn't even notice, because they were so far behind!

Powell looks in great shape. Bloody wind gauge.

Very impressive from a guy who is still learning the event. 1500 is definately his distance. 3.36 this season is a distinct possibility.
