Could see three teams on 2 points end of this group. Scoring difference could matter.

Need to find a better way of getting D Flynn more involved. Drifts out for 70% of the game. Even if it's just pulling others out of position.

    Surprised Brophy wasn't first hooked.

Team carried ball into heavy traffic and conceded savage amount of turnovers. Have to address for Galway.

Where does brophy play for celbridge? Feel like he's wasted in that wing role he's in

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,436 ✭✭✭ixus

Well he doesn't play in the full forward line proper which is where he made initial impact as a senior. When he was ripping it up.

  • Registered Users Posts: 212 ✭✭kencoo

A few pops at goal maybe should have been put over the bar instead. We did get into positions but missed too many which you cant do at this level.
I thought we had stamped out the carrying of ball into contact after the carlow game. Obviously not.
We didnt play that well but we were unlucky all the same.

I guess we would need to win next two games to progress or could we get away with one? Is that possible?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,436 ✭✭✭ixus

Only if Monaghan win all 3 and the rest win 1 a piece for us. Score difference then, down in Killarney.

That game was there for the taking today if good enough but sadly we did a lot of things wrong, frustrating performance.

That Clifford goal knocks us out. Could still have a huge part to play in the Championship though by getting some sort of result in a fortnights time. That Kerry team are there for the taking. ould be great to knock them out of the Championship in their own back yard

It is all very deflating now to lose two on the bounce but in a few weeks time we will look back and acknowledge that it has been a very decent summer after not winning for almost a year and #Carlowgate

Especially when you see what is going on in the under age, got to put things into perspective,

Could have easily won either of those to last matches, if not both.

A Kerry win would have kept us in.

    Sorry, my bad.

The game was lost after the flynn sending off. Galway are a good team and I would imagine they will make the final against dublin. There is some merit there.
Overall though we are missing something small which has been our problem for 10+ years. Ive lost count of the one or two point defeats by those years top 6 or 7 teams. Maybe hyland next year will be the difference.

After the terrible first 6 months I for one am delighted with the spirit that kildare has shown to get this far.
Next weeks game will be a dud for I assume the bench will be emptied.

Despite it being my predicted outcome; the disappointment was over fairly quick this evening. We were well in both our games. 2 quick fire missed chances to go in front against Monaghan at 65 minutes could have seen a different outcome. Don't think we ever led the Longford game till near 70 minutes - as soon as we went in front, heads picked up and we went 5 up. Today - besides the obvious red card, we failed to stamp our authority when we went up 10-8 and had some wides after that. Going in with a lead could have been significant - though the red card killed us. Getting within 1 with 14 men going into injury time was great fight however and I'm proud of that. This is the so called 2nd best team in the country and we didn't look out of our depth at all.

Big positives? We visibly have lots to work on, moreso than most of the other big teams whom we are very very close too. Shooting, consistency, discipline, in game adaptation etc. Add a couple of the u20s into the mix and we will be a serious team with the right management.

I also think it would benefit us to get in someone to teach our lads how to be subtly dirty and get away with fouling. We never seem to get away with off the ball pulling and fouling etc. We must be too obvious. There's an act to it - Feely was fouled nearly every high ball into him in the 1st half (this was blatant fouling and everyone could see it so maybe a bad example). Conway had a Monaghan fella on like a necklace last week and he got a yellow. Dan reacts (poorly in fairness) to instigation and he gets red. It's a shame to even be talking like this but off the ball stuff and unseen fouling on forwards is an epidemic to the game and Kildare seriously need to either join in and get good at it or else continue to have it done to them.

Geezer was there today in the crowd - along with Early, Doyle and a few others.

Plotting the managerial takeover for next year? :D:D

Would have liked to see Chris Healy getting a chance to start. Been very lively anytime he came off the bench. But always going to be Niall Kelly

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,011 ✭✭✭John.Icy

Yeah Healy has made as much impact off the bench this summer as anyone else - the composure and placement of his goal against Fermanagh is a summer highlight for me. If I must criticise he seems to be slower at adapting to not taking the ball into contact as others on the panel seem to be - but that will come with game time tbf!

I am weirdly confident about the Kerry game. A nothing match - no expectation and not a win or bust game since we are out...our achilles is often not performing when we need it most, so it should suit us down to the ground. Those interview clips popping up on social media show an extremely relaxed camp but still an intent to go out and play from all.

Also throw in the pressure on a young Kerry team who have to win and win well. Everyone and their mother is expecting a trouncing. That could play a big role.

Also - got wonderful seats online tonight for Sunday, a stones throw from halfway. A surprise. Knew Dub-Ros wouldn't be the summers hottest ticket but still.

Geezer would be taking a step backwards for us.

As a clare man ye were screwed by the ref by sending the corner forward and full back off

Punched Killian Young in the back if the head, clear red. Black card is the most obvious black card you will see

Happening to Kildare all over the shop. We're just poxed.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,101 ✭✭✭klairondavis

Neil Flynn very unlucky. Desperately harsh red card. Hyland's was silly.

James Murray on for the second half and look to shut down at the back. We'll be relying on Cribbin and Kelly to pick off scores.

Cian O'Neill very vocal on the sideline and the Kildare players looking fired up for it which is good to see given the circumstances.

The funny thing is it wasn't a red, let alone a clear a clear one!.

Poor second half. Not one to dwell on.

Hopefully a better result tomorrow and two or three new lads in next year to bolster the senior team.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,436 ✭✭✭ixus

Not bothered by second half. Very happy with first half, sending off aside.

Some keeper was going to have that happen to him this year. Bad luck on Donellan when you see what the Laois fella does.

If that didn't happen and Brophy was a little sharper in the full forward line, it could have been a nice restart.

For 2.5 games out of 3 we were serious contenders in the group. For 2.5 games Kerry were muck.

Good support up for the Under 20s already be great for the county to bring home an All Ireland. It’s live on TG4 for those who can’t make it

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,050 ✭✭✭✭The Talking Bread

Davy Burke is really impressive to listen to. No doubt he will be the successor to o'Neill in a couple of years. Hopefully no inter county team takes a punt on him in the interim
