Struggling to get around Balscadden earlier. Tide and the lee of the cliffs did a good bit of pushing off course to mark. Crappy photo.

I've more than a few frustrating memories as a nipper, trying to get around that fecking mark in a squib in light airs and foul tide... :D

Even worse was the Puck mark, don't think it's there anymore..

That's what I wondering about. The cradle was too shallow (nearly horizontal) and wide.

Took a trip to a traditional boat building school when we were over in France. Students learn about different wood building techniques but the school can only ever build 1 boat per class. Theyve already done a few Irish boats and are building another

This is a Swiss sailing & rowing boat that was built few years ago for a swiss owner and his family gave it back to the school when he died

Anyone see the article today in the English times about the owner of the Cheeki Rafiki ( boat that capsized in the mid Atlantic in May 2014 with the loss of four crew) being in court on four counts of manslaughter by gross negligence and failing to operate the boat in a safe manner?

Four crews in the single and double hands transatlantic race (think it's called the OSTAR)had to be rescued during dreadful weather
    http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-40234274

I think there's a chap from Howth in this race on a boat called Bam ( edit, from hyc facebook it looks like it, he was four days ahead in the lead on the seventh)
Thankfully they are all safe and well, one chap was rescued by the Queen Mary!

For Conor? He's doing it single handed.

Sorry, thought it was two handed.

    Oops.

No need to apologise, I should have been clearer, it's a mix of single and double handed boats :)

Thanks for the heads-up. There is a piece on it in YBW here
    - opening statement for the prosecution who went in with the boot as one would expect. Some rather damning assertions. I won't comment per Boards charter as it's an on-going case.

Boards charter only applies to Irish court cases iirc

    I'll leave it at this
The court heard that the yacht, ….. had a Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) category 2 charter code, which meant it could only be sailed up to 60 miles away from “a safe haven”………Cheeki Rafiki lost its keel more than 700 miles from Nova Scotia in Canada…….…. Cheeki Rafiki’s skipper Andrew Bridge had urgently emailed Innes when it became clear that the 40-foot yacht was taking on water …Innes, who was in the pub at the time, didn’t call the coastguard but went on to another pub and carried on drinking.

see the last day of ICRA nats was cancelled due to high winds. The turn out looked pretty poor overall. Only 2 boats in class 0 after that 1 sunk last week and another pulled out

Used to be loads of class zeros years ago but costs and crew got too much. Possibly too many events on aswell. Be interesting to see what numbers for icra be like next year with the nationals in galway
