Your driving pet hates

Got 2 main ones that do my head in these days.

1) My daily commute takes me on a 100km/h road which is more or less straight for the guts of 2 or 3 miles. Often there is a speed van on it.

Yesterday, there was a line of maybe 10 cars on it, and we were doing 80km/h due to a slow driver at the front. Then he gets flashed by an oncoming car to warn him there is a van up ahead. So what does he do? He slows down to 60km/h! On a 100km/h road!

2) Not sure if this phenomenon has spread across the rest of the country, but its been rife in Derry for a few years.

When a driver is turning left into a slip road or street, instead of making the turn he actually comes to a stop on the main road with his indicator on, allowing those trying to get out of this junction on to the main road to do so, and also let those approaching him turning right into the road he is turning into, go in in front of him. So he could sit stopped on a main road holding up the traffic behind him for maybe 10secs just so he looks like a nice guy.

This is everywhere now, I've actually seen idiots come to a near standstill when they aren't turning in, just to let others out. And of course if you run into the back of them, you're at fault even though they stopped out of the blue for no good reason.

What about the muppet who almost drives their car through the filling station door because they couldn't be bothered walking 20-30 metres. Came out of a shop recently and the door hit an Audi parked outside. Nearly had to climb over the bonnet to get by. Waited to see who was the culprit. A healthy well dressed man in his 30s. Didn't seem to be in any hurry either. Why ffs?

1. Drivers who have there rear wipers on All the time even when it's perfectly dry.

2. Miss use of lights in general and blown bulbs.

3. Parking on a double yellow line is one thing but people who park right on the corner of a T junction for example so they are blocking one lane of trafic and putting people in dangerous position and just blocking the road up in general by parking where they shouldn't have.

4. People who drive around with parts hanging of there cars and touching the road, exhaust heat shields, engine sump gaurds, front bumper actually touching the ground and causing a potential danger if they fall of. In most cases they make a loud enough noise so the driver should know something is wrong.

Parking on double yellow lines is not ok. But if you put your hazard lights on while parked on them then that is ok.
I can't seem to find that rule in the driving handbook though.. How strange.

I forgot to add that it's not as bad if you put half you're vehicle parked on a footpath. Softens the inconvenience to others.

So many pet hates so little time....

- lane hoggers
- people who are happy pottering along 20km/h below the speed limit then hug the white line and/or speed up when you over take (safely)
- two lanes round abouts. The person is in the outside lane indicating right but actually wants to go straight on. Then there's the lad in the outside lane who wants to go right but manages to swing into the inside lane where you are and back to the outside while going round said round about
- people already well below the limit slowing further when there's a speed camera
- people who brake going round the slightest bend
- people who come to a complete stop when turning left
- no use of indicators
- people who tail gate you despite having no intention of over taking

A small number, I could actually go on all night

Edit: how I could I forget "onlookers". I remember the first time I heard "onlookers are causing a delay" on the traffic news. Thought how could somebody be so stupid as to slow down on a motorway for a quick gawk at what was going on. Little did I know how many people that stupid there actually are

When you do indicate on roundabouts as I always do you will still get clowns to drive out in front of you :mad:

I was going around a roundabout one day turning right with my indicator on and an idiot drives out in front of me then stops on the roundabout. When I beckoned him to move on he shakes his head at me, absolutely clueless :rolleyes:

Speed bumps I can't go over them fast as the car will bottom out on some of the stupid speed bumps around the place.

I can take speedbumps at normal speeds but can't go over speedbumps in a normal manner due to the car being quite low. I have had assholes attempt to overtake me when I'm going over the speedbumps, that makes me see red.

Or numpties creeping over speedbumps in normal height cars.... Afraid to damage your wreck of a car? :rolleyes:

VAG diesels are well known for cracking alloy sumps on speed ramps. We supply loads of them in work. If I drove a Tdi, I'd be crawling over them too. Thankfully, I drove a Toyota, and I am able to lamp over them, so I am!:D

However there is no excuse for a Disco 3/Hyundai Trampjet/Corolla Verso to be cringing over speedbumps.... I should be cringing over them but never bother, even with a 120mm drop and alu sump

Drivers who don't like being behind other cars but drive 20km/h under the limit. Overtook a lad one day that was going 80 in a 100, I passed him and went right to 100..the fcuker sped up to about 120 blazed past me and then slowed down to 80 again:pac: It wasn't some young lad being a prick or anything..he was about 60.

Even when people indicate on roundabouts, or if you're waiting to turn right out of a junction and a car is indicating left, I never trust them. So many people who indicate incorrectly, you'd be an eejit to 'believe them' just because they're indicating lol. My driving instructor actually told me to wait until you can see wheels turning!

Btw - I slow down on corners and speed up on the straight. Unless there's someone up me hole, in which case I'll let them off on the straight. Don't fancy going around a bend on two wheels in fifth gear!

Why the fcuk can people not merge onto a Dual carriageway or motorway properly I am sick of idiots crawling down the slip road and then braking at the last second.

I cannot jump into the overtaking lane if I am driving an artic to allow people to merge plus I don't want to as the fools normally match your speed and leave you in lane two like a fool.

Experienced this at all least three times in the past 48 hours or so: drivers pulling into the overtaking lane to pass someone out and proceeding drive about 2mph faster than the car that they are overtaking, so it takes them a good minute to complete the move.

Also drivers who hover just behind you in the next lane over. So many times I have tried to pull into the overtaking lane but had to think twice because I wasnt entirely sure if I was being overtaken myself or not. Sometimes flicking on the indicator will spark these geniuses to life (theyll fly by you as if someone just lit a fire under their arse), but not always.

Everything on this thread so far.

I've noticed this happen at least twice in the past few weeks, where I'll be stopped a red light, with a car or (in one case) a motorbike in front of me. The head in front waits a few seconds, sees there's nothing coming and decides that they don't want to wait for the green light and carry on through the red. Did I miss a meeting or something?

A friend of mine completely lost it when some old bastard did that to him.
He actually overtook, stopped and walked up to the car and asked "excuse me kind sir, can you tell me what your fornicating problem is?".

Plenty of the stuff mentioned in this thread. I have to add myself to the "breaks/brakes" mistake haters. It's unbelievable, I'd say there are more people getting it wrong than right. It is "brakes", not "breaks"; "The car brakes" and "The car breaks" are very, very different concepts (usually the second happens because of a failure in the first

).

Having to nail down a few "pet hates":

- Staying in the middle of the road or moving full left to turn right, blocking the entire line of traffic behind them: almost every single driver out there does it;

- Schmucks blocking junctions, access roads and gates queuing up in traffic. Happens outside home every effing night (thanks Cork City Council for putting up the stupidest, least useful traffic light in the history of mankind);

Yesterday being bank holiday, I guess the "funny drivers" were out in force. Driving around countryside road, I came up to no less than three different people who where slowing down to a crawl coming up the slightest of the corners, only to accelerate up to 80-90 km/h on the straights - when I was thinking about overtaking.
