I wouldn't say 'self-identify' so much as comply with that census question, but we've already been over that. It is certainly not 84% in reality, declines in church attendance alone is a clear reflectance of this. I know you don't want to believe that though, so won't press the topic.

That is something that does need to be changed in fairness. But like everything else the politicians will give it a kick that Leigh Halfpenny would be proud of.

Sadly it is a legacy issue from 19th century London ignoring Ireland. There was a need for somebody to step in to provide education and the religious orders were the ones to do so. It is high time that the orders were told 'thank you for stepping in when you did, however we can look after ourselves now' though.

The Church considers contraception, abortion, homosexuality, my unbaptised children, co habiting, sex before marriage, drunkenness for example as a sin.
Thats not respectful.
They have books, Sunday meet up, nut job Iona Institute/ Yuff Defense/ Pure at heart and TV slots dedicated to telling me so. I spent from birth to about age 17 being told the same.

My post wasn't daft, but it is quite clear that you have some underlying problems, you're easily disrespected.

You basically named a litany of CC beliefs. And the fact that the CC has these beliefs at all is disrespectful to you? So presumably you don't have priests, nuns or laypeople calling around to you to share these beliefs? So your disrespected from a distance.

Seems you like the idea of being a victim.

As a matter of interest when groups advocate lower welfare rates do you also feel disrespected?

All parts, it is a uniquely Roman Catholic call to prayer played on RTE1 Radio at noon, and RTE 1 Television at 6pm.

Eh, so you're saying that if christianity wasn't here there would be no public holidays in Ireland. That Ireland would be the only country in the world to not have public holidays?

As it stands, Ireland has 28 statutory days off a year for a full time worker. 8 public holidays and 20 days annual leave.

This is amongst the lowest in the world. Other more secular countries have far more holidays than Ireland, french people for example get 36 days off a year (and a shorter working week)

IMO the whole Good Friday thing is blown out of proportion. It's one day of the year. Many people will drink in their homes on that day. A day when the pubs are closed each year isn't a bad thing IMO.

It's not just one day of the year, It's one of only 6 or 7 public holiday weekends in the year, it's also a time when a lot of tourists visit ireland and many of them are seriously annoyed when they arrive and are told that all the pubs are closed cause the catholics are taking a day off drink
