Come on that's complete nonsense, we've seen since Eddie O'Sullivan was managing the national team Ireland are very conservative at National level with team selection, because this is a trend its coming from the IRFU to play it safe, play the useless auld players who managed to sneak a central contract even though they didn't deserve it as we want to get value for money.
We were one of the last tier 1 pro teams to start making it a 23 man game, we'd play the starting 15 and only substitute for injury never for impact or to replace a player not playing to standard so no competition in the squad.
I know a lot of people on this forum are in denial but by playing the same players, same tactics and style are team is so well scouted they know exactly what we're going to do, the best example is at centre where we have the creativity of a dump truck.
..
Maybe ‘better’ is the wrong word. Slicker might be closer. He does tend to interrupt himself, or hisself, and not come across as smooth as he might. It shouldn’t matter, really. He’s not primarily a salesman. The product must speak for itself and it has.
You mean doing it like the World Champions South Africa?
There's nothing wrong with constructive criticism and asking tough questions none of the established media will go against the IRFU, too much of old boys club there, same with the analysis team on RTE and Virgin media, they won't question our slow backline and should certain players be dropped.
The game tomorrow is at 12.40pm which is an insult to fans not from the Dublin area, IRFU have gotten of lightly with that one same having that stupid game in Chicago.
We should all hark back to the pre EOS days. Good times right?
I never said that so quit the dumb hyperbole, I mentioned EOS as that's when the pro game really got going and settled.
Pot meet kettle.
1240! That’s mad. Is that the earliest kickoff…ever?
Strawman argument.
You actually comparing Ireland to SA? Well one is back to back world champions vs us with no a knockout win in RWC history plus you clearly haven't watched them or Rassie operate he's ruthless, he's substituted Kolisi when he felt he needed more impact of the bench, that would never happen with Ireland with the Captain like Doris.
You also fail to acknowledge that many of the SA internationals don't really play for their clubs, PSDT and Marx play in Japan to maintain fitness their real club is SA, same with the Sharks team, test level pack but only play for SA, Pollard and the other players in Europe are literally on a jolly, miraculously they're super fit for SA but never the clubs
Well Andy selecting slow as dumptruck Henshaw for no other reason as he just happens to have a central contract I'm not far of Ireland being Dad's army.
It is extremely unlikely that IRFU chose the kick-off time, surely that's obvious.
None of what you're saying is constructive criticism. Just angry ranting.
I think the IRFU can do better and you know it, quit being a boot licker. You think the French and the English would have such an early kick off time? I doubt it.
Rant? No it's constructive criticism, fact is you can't debate my points.
French home kick-off times are almost exclusively at 9pm, entirely dictated by TV, in a country vastly larger than Ireland.
If you live in Toulouse or Lyon or Bordeaux how are you getting home from Paris after a match that ends after 11pm?
France is a much larger country, someone from Toulouse ain't going to Paris regardless of kick off time unless they stay the night. 9pm is purely tv audience, while 12.40pm Ireland? That's purely us bottom of the ladder for the other teams, if they couldn't put us in a decent time at Saturday they should have had the game on Sunday.
lol, being rational and coherent makes me a boot licker.
Ireland v Japan is a pretty low profile game and the TV companies would prioritise pretty much every other game this weekend over it.
Not if Japan was playing England or France, like it or not the IRFU bent over a table and got rode and took it knowing there's too many people like you who will keep the head down and not complain.
Speaking of the early kickoff… does anyone know if any of the usual spots will be open before the match tomorrow? Trying to organise a meeting spot. Anyone know if Ryan's in Beggar's Bush will be opening early? Thanks
12:40 is 21:40 in Japan.
Exactly the correct time to maximise viewership in both countries.
But hey, screaming at clouds always pays off
Aaaand your concern for the match going fans evaporates.
No it's based on geography ya townie
Rubbish,
Reinach, Pollard, Esterhuizen, Thomas du Toit, Louw and Wiese were all playing in Europe and in great shape before the last World cup. I'm sure I'm missing one or two others.
I think you will find many Leicester tigers fans have complained that Pollard rarely played to the level he did for SA, Estherhuizen plays now for Sharks LOL. Wiese now playing in Japan, Bar Du Toit tge rest are all now playing SA now that they're more regular starters for the national team. I mean look at Etzesbeth for Toulon and the Sharks a joke yet on international stage he's the best lock on the planet.
Why are you talking about where they are playing now? That bears no relevance to the last World Cup.
For Petes Sake, Interesting post.
First you angrily respond to someone suggesting that Dan Kelly isn't being hyped on just 'one full game', that he has a reputation from his professional career before he moved to Munster that many rugby fans knew about, by saying
then scoff at a comparison to a player with almost no professional minutes at any level being parachuted into the squad, (where did you watch this player?) and then end your post by returning to the assertion that we shouldn't be judging Dan on 'Just one game' (nobody is doing that, he has played more than one game) Its a masterpiece in angry internet shitposting
He's not the best international lock on the planet.
He is
Did you watch the last RWC? Wiese and Pollard was the only ones in the 23 for the final, LOL! The rest are only regulars now and coincidently they're all playing in SA or Japan where they're minded as SA national team is their club
Akrasia, interesting post.
First of all, I didn't respond angrily to anybody. I laughed at Shooter McGavin alright because it was such a ridiculous post. Don't know where the angry suggestion has come from. This is the second time one of you has thrown that suggestion at me. Seems a particular section of Munster heads like to try and put words in peoples' mouths and completely misrepresent them.
Secondly, Shooter said very clearly:
I think Dan Kelly is a cert for starting 12 for the WC. The centre was huge for Munster against Leinster. And Dan Kelly is very much in the Lowe camp for giving energy to the team. Great tackler, fast runner and links up really well with Tom Farrell.England's loss is our gain in this case.

I see only one game mentioned in this post. Unless you want to point out to me where he said more since then you can point it out to me, as I have yet to see it.
Now, 50HX later said:
Just for clarity Kelly had nearly played 100 times for Leicester, starting the vast majority of those games at 12He's also played to CC level

He's also played to CC level
Which, in response, I said was fine, and I know a good bit about him. I've watched him play in England. He's a good player and I said already that he could well be the starting 12 at the next Rugby World Cup. However, the central point is that to declare that he's a 'cert' 2 years out is ridiculous.
With regards to Paddy McCarthy. I never scoffed at anything. I never even brought him up. I never said anything about his abilities. All of that was brought up by someone else. I simply asked one question which none of you have been able to answer, and I hope you can. The question is below:
How many people in this thread have said Paddy McCarthy is a cert to start at loosehead prop at the next World Cup based on one game?
Japan played south africa last sat in Wembley with 23k attendance...must have been like a funeral home at 4pm there.
Italy play SA nxt week at the same time 12:40
The worst of the lot imo is Eng v Arg at 4pm on a Sunday.
I'd take Japan at 12:40 anytime.if it ment the bigger 2 games stayed at evening kick offs
Also 12:40 is a great time for a family attendance esp with smallies
