So you’re saying that the only dealer who wanted to offer a half decent trade in on the depreciation magnet that is the Q8 eTron was a dealer who was trying to offload an even bigger depreciation magnet Taycan.
and you think these guys are just ‘diesel loving clowns’. They’re running a business and might know just a little more than the rest of us about what is selling.
Yeah dealt with them and have had a few dealings with Richie himself. Nice honest establishment from my experience.
I think you have a good experience with Vector yourself? My brother in law just bought a Taycan from them, trading in his Q8 etron. Good no nonsense experience and he got a decent deal. It's embarrassing what some diesel loving clowns from other (well known) dealers offered him for the Audi.
..
What's the reason for GW only accepting cars under 60k km? It seems really arbitrary. I could have 40k and destroyed the car and battery. I could have 100k and be in mint condition and a healthy battery.
Edit: sorry missed the latest posts. It's about the warranty.
Just go about 2k below price of similar from a garage to start and then just see what kind of low ball offers you get. Then drop price once in a while but do not accept offers that are let's say 200 below dropped price. You can always drop price further and perhaps bring into table a buyer that is not good or comfortable with negotiating - it is better to drop asking price than agree to it during negotiation.
Looks like they have kept FM radio and Basic Autopilot on the European version of the new Model Y Standard anyways.
What would you see as a good asking price for a 222 reg M3 RWD with 66k Km - (ultra red with black interior) It has the upgraded wheels etc - but I know that doesn't make any difference in the used market - reason I ask is there's such a difference in prices on the likes of DD that it's difficult to know what to ask for :-)
I think private sellers of EVs are putting too high asking prices initially, but instead of adjusting price they sell below market value. There are two groups of buyers, one that is comfortable with negotiation and other that is not. If you accept offers significantly below your asking you will be selling to limited market.
That’s where the likes of Platin Cars, Holdon Cars etc come in. They tend to buy the higher mileage stuff and sell for a bit cheaper with the usual dealer 3 month warranty.
GW and Vector have carved out the market they want and seems to work well for them.
Smart strategy. Zero risk to them as long as the cars weren't crashed. And they can cherry pick as few others buy second hand Teslas and offer decent money for them. I believe Vector motors is the other crowd with a similar business model
Leave the older / higher mileage to lower level dealers / traders. Who could well still offer more than the Tesla PFO trade in quotes
And I can see no reason for Tesla to start taking more trade ins. They simply don't have the staff nor the space to do this
It's obvious from the Graham Walker ad that they don't want to have to provide the normal 6 months warranty you'd get when buying a 2nd hand ICE from a dealer. So they're relying on the car still having 20k and 1 year of Tesla warranty left. I doubt they would consider a 70k or higher mileage car.
Have they bought older than 3 year old cars from anyone? I see one 2021 for sale on their site and that's the oldest.
I'm sure GW isn't going to crib about a few thousand kms.
Tesla trade ins recently have been surprisingly competitive. I had one in September that was well over the trade-bid value. Usually the Tesla figure is many thousands less than trade-bid.
it’s very hard to find Irish stock.
There’s 9,600 Irish registered Teslas sold across the 4 years 2022-25, and just 28 ads on DD for cars 22 or newer with under 60,000, and just 4 of those are private ads.
They definitely need to send emails to try to encourage people to sell who weren’t considering it
That rules out a huge chunk of people though. I'm not a high mile driver, but over the 2 years and 9 months I had my Model 3 (222) I put 69k on the ODO. That was daily commuting of 70km daily return. Several months of vehicle not in use when I was working abroad. The usual trips once or twice a week to the supermarket around the the corner and a single long journey to Germany and back.
Speak of the devil….
That was you?
passed two taxis in a tank tonight that were 252 MY junipers, and I’d say these new cheaper teslas will be big hits as taxi’s. Tesla seem to be one of the more popular taxis now in Dublin, ID4 too.
not at all true for 90% of sellers. You’re still getting a trade price and your car needs to be factory fresh for them to consider it.
Selling private is the best option, but again, not many people like selling a car from their driveway, certainly not a €20-30k one.
It’s hard to sell a Tesla, and get a price you’re happy with. look at the number of private ads for Tesla’s who are selling because of a “new Tesla incoming” - They’re staying within the brand, but are getting rode on the trade-in, so they’re trying desperately to sell privately, but they’re pricing the cars far to high and eventually have to take the measly Tesla/trade offer.
Performance will always be a halo model , if they strip stuff off you'll pay 5k more not less 🤣 for the weight savings and extra 0.1 off to 60
I didn't mean that literally!😁
Almost, between Woodies and Vodafone
Whereabouts in Sandyford is GW cars?
Haha, didn't know that. Yes, as long as your car hasn't done more than 3000 miles in 3 years
Right beside Tesla???
Now that Graham Walker has moved to Sandyford there's a defacto trade in available.
Disagree that the €5k (?) more RWD is better value at €37.5k. I think the cheap standard one trumps it for 90% of buyers who haven't owned a Tesla (or any EV) before. I'm even a little bit tempted myself, after owning EVs for nearly a decade and coming from a Model S
Agree with your comments on the Tesla sales model. This I believe is the biggest barrier for Teslas not selling far more cars than they already are. Let's put it into perspective though. The Model Y is the best selling car (not EV!) in the world over the last 3 years
Yeah, that’s true — but honestly, the RWD at €37k offers way better value. I wouldn’t be surprised if Tesla sales start climbing because of it, especially with the CEO keeping a low profile lately.
That said, there are still plenty of flaws in Tesla’s sales model that’ll turn people off. One big one is how tricky it is to sell your old car when you’re ready to upgrade — little trade-in support, no dealer network, and you’re basically on your own.
you know that, and I know that, because we’re in the weeds.
Everyone else just sees a €32k car (or whatever it’ll be), and a €51k m3H LR, and wonders why spend €19k extra for a car that looks identical from the outside. Looks matter to car buyers - us included.
Only you will know what’s inside the frunk
