This is possibly where Zelenskyy sees a window of opportunity to get a dig in at Putin (and show Trump how willing Ukraine is to end this)… Zelenskyy knows (everyone knows) Putin will not turn up in Istanbul on Thursday, so best thing for Zelenskyy to do is turn up himself, and in front of the worlds media, proclaim;
"I'm here to talk. Let's sort this out, President to President, where is Mr Putin?"
"I'm here President Trump, just like you asked, but where is the other guy?"

If you’re referring to me you’d be way off the mark. I have zero love for Russia or Ukraine. I’d love for diplomacy and peace between these two countries at war.

The problem with this love of peace is how it's achieved. Like if Ukraine just accept status quo on Thurs and officially we have peace, how long does it last? If the war continues with full, unbridled backing of Euro and US, and Russia are just beaten, how long does the peace last?

The west has not ceased military aid to Ukraine, as demanded.
I assume concessions will be made by both sides. First thing is to ceasefire stop the killing FFS, get around the table and take it from there.
Guarantees will have to be given for Ukraines security by US/EU. Maybe rather than dangle NATO membership say to Russia we will expedite their application and call their bluff.

The way the most lives will be saved in the long run is for Russia to get a good hiding tbh. No massive punitive post war sanctions, mind, but absolutely batter them out of Ukraine completely.

well it’s already clear Putin isn’t up for a ceasefire in the short term, but I don’t see that as of fundamental significance. Ultimately the ceasefire is a gesture of good faith m, and there are other ways of doing that. I don’t think it’d make or break either if Putin attends he talks in person. The key question is will Russia be offering meaningful concessions, or will it merely reiterate previous hard libes. If it’s the latter, as I strongly expect, hopefully trump will recognise that publicly and act accordingly.
That convoy heading for Kyiv in 2023 was just tourists keen to get to their restaurant bookings. And that fracas at Kyiv's airport with the Spetznaz, was because the chicken Kyiv was under cooked.

Indeed, we all want peace, but to clarify some important points:
Only Putin can stop his war. It's his invasion of choice, ultimately he decides whether it continues or not.
Ukraine so far have only had a choice of occupation or fight.
To date Putin has never offered a genuine proposal to stop his invasion, only offered fake overtures and played games.
The world doesn't have any other option but to keep repeatedly trying until he does, or doesn't stop. Once he makes an actual real proposal (that isn't BS), then it's up to Ukraine how much of a pound of flesh they want to cut out of themselves to buy that (likely temporary) peace.

The PM of Turkey , Erdoan, tells Putin that one of his security officers in a senior position in the division that is in charge of protecting foreign visitors has thrown a ‘ sickie’ and therefor he cannot guarantee his safety 100% . 99.99% maybe but not 100%. That is probably enough of an excuse!!!!!!!!
The ‘main thing’ /‘first thing’ in ANY any discussions to end the Ukr/RU war is TO GUARANTEE that the EU , US and the collision of the willing nations respect the sovereign state of RUssia , will never have any intention of an axing any part of it and will provide peace keeping soldiers on the Russian side of its border with all countries that bounds it to guarantee that position
