I suppose my knowledge is limited, but what you say jives with what I've read and heard.
My point would be that the US/Japan/Taiwan have not much in their arsenal to beat the Chinese, should they choose to invade. They can definitely make things difficult, but I don't believe they can bring sufficient force to ultimately defeat the Chinese.
There is one carrier in Japan (USS Ronald Reagan or the USS George Washington) which could get to Taiwan in a day and a half, but it would take well over a week for any West Coast US carriers to get there.
Those points are not without merit, but from my perspective, it's not as clear cut. I've written a more extensive reply in the China vs. Taiwan thread:

Some good news coming out of the front
Been a slow grind, but they've been making steady progress in pushing Russia back from positions that's cost them thousands of lives to take.
I think I hope that Trump now is finally starting to see the type of person that Putin is. Someone who lies and never stickes to their words. Hopefully then Trump and America will get fully behind Ukraine again.
Someone who lies and never stickes to their words.
Same as himself, then. Any such realisation is more than likely to reaffirm Trump's opinion that Putin is a great lad, someone he could always get on with no matter what the rest of the world tells him.
There was an excellent article in the Telegraph a couple of days ago which predicted that Trump would soon have a big bust up with Putin. The writer felt that Putin was seriously underestimating Trump, and not taking into account his short temper or that he doesn't like being made a fool of by anyone and definitely not being humiliated.
Maybe but does Putin have something on Trump? We'll see how it plays out soon enough.
I think it's a forlorn hope.
Best we can hope for IMO is that Trump gets exasperated that peace won't dawn just because he wills it, washes his hands of situation and disengages from both sides (i.e. the awful US rapprochement with Russia doesn't progress any further).
"Norway's proximity to the USSR during the Cold War led to it building many military bunkers – some of them vast secret bases for planes and ships. Tensions with Russia have brought the bunkers back into focus"

Maybe of interest.(I used to work there in the fishing factory)
I remember not so long ago they shut the border because Russia was sending off illegal immigrants on push bikes towards the Norwegian border.
I think we're already past the exasperation point. Putin is acting the maggot and doesn't seem at all interested in a ceasefire (which appears to have dawned on Trump now).
Reports coming in that one of Putin's cars has exploded. Also that he has ordered the arrest of Oligarchs.
Again or are you reporting what happened Friday night?
So right at the start of the current unpleasantnesss Trump said this
I went in yesterday and there was a television screen, and I said, ‘This is genius.’ Putin declares a big portion of the Ukraine—of Ukraine. Putin declares it as independent. Oh, that’s wonderful. So, Putin is now saying, ‘It’s independent,’ a large section of Ukraine. I said, ‘How smart is that?’ And he’s gonna go in and be a peacekeeper.
So maybe not literal flat-out lying but 'bending reality to his will', what we would call in Ireland a stroke. And Trump recognised it and thought it was 'genius'…
Just fcuking do it!!!
………. Trump pissed off with Putin
Is that not in response to a ceasefire or more than likely a peace agreement?
…………..
Trump and Putin will kiss and make up. It's just playing good cop/bad cop.
I dunno, it seems like Trump realises Putin is treating him like a puppet, and messing him about, asking for the full cake, or no deal. Time for Trump to get tough
Reading that post makes Trump sound more like Neville Chamberlain than a Churchill for all his bragging
Donnie is possibly annoyed that Putin is dangling that Nobel Peace Prize over his head, teasing him with it, while doing what he damn well pleases.
This would be an ideal time to appeal to his fragile little ego, and suggest that going all in with supporting Ukraine would actually win him praise from many of the Western leaders. It would be a temporary fix until his mood turns, but it would buy Ukraine more time which I feel is the name of the game right now.
I doubt this "anger" will last. Note how quickly Trump dropped US support and intel for Ukraine - let's see if he does anything like that with Putin (secondary sanctions, etc). It will demonstrate whether this is real or just vapid posturing.
I think it’s worth pointing out that while Telegraph does one of the best and most in-depth day to day coverage of this war and has journalists on the ground and daily interviews on their excellent free podcast
Some of their writers have been repeatedly over optimistic and plain wrong about Trump
There clearly is some sort of “special” relationship between Putin and Trump
As always with Trump watch what he does not what he says, since he has no issues contradicting himself and lying
’Acting the maggot - ‘ you are being VERY CAUTIOUS. Is your range of adjectives/ nouns very limited !!!. Could you not come up with something more accurate?
He actually went on to criticize Zelensky more in the interview.
Says if Zelensky doesn’t accept the rare mineral deal he’s got big problems.
We all know which way this is heading.
Any meaningful peace agreement has to be between Russia and Ukraine, obviously. And I don't think Russia are prepared to make any agreements with Ukraine. Putin only responds to deterrence.
The whole Trump peace talk stuff is simply a sideshow.
Zelensky better sign the deal, for all he knows next time he visits, Trump could simply have him hogtied and delivered on a CIA flight to Moscow
On the second part, that Iran bombing threat, the US has moved at least one third of it's B2 bombers to Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean, likely in readiness to drop large ground penetrating GBU-57 bombs to get at Iran's subterranean nuclear facilities.
So Trump "very angry" with Putin while also touting a mineral deal with Russia and threatening Zelenski not to pull out of an impossible deal.
What'll Trump as for in return for his betrayal of Ukraine? For Russia to abandon Iran and leave them to the US?
Very dangerous times for Ukraine after they've already lost Kursk thanks to Trump.
Thanks to Trump's actions and threats, the 'NATO' pre-emptive defence is turning into more of a noose around its members necks. In other words, do we really think Trump would send in the cavalry if Russia expanded operations into a little bit of Poland etc? I'd be doubtful. While Putin can rest assured that the Europeans won't step foot into Ukraine because of the risk of triggering Article 5 and 'escalations'. The the NATO thing is actually working backwards at the moment thanks to Trump's positioning.
