The threat of Russia invading the rest of Europe in ladas and on donkeys isn't really a possibility, but while Putin is still in power there's a constant real threat of EU infrastructure sabotage.
In a post Putin collapse Russia west of the urals could become an EU liability needing constant policing.
Everything east of the urals will become Kazakhstan and China's security concern.
The Rachmaninov empire built over centuries is on its last gasps.
Maybe they were always like this. I can easily imagine a non-Roosevelt timeline with Lindbergh chumming up with Hitler and Tojo and a big cohort of the American electorate just fine with it.
The concern would have to be any attempt to gazump Trump in that way would prompt him to wash his hands of the entire situation…
Would France or Germany or a public /Partnership consortium involving a number of ‘western countries / like minded countries - some European , Japan , Australia, New Zealand , etc, etc. - not be in a position to make a counter and MORE FAIR proposal to Ukr than to the US one . ANDKEEP THE MONEY AND JOBS IN EUROPE/ UKR friendly countries.
The US can be paid for the non gift/ grant supplied arms out of the profits so as to stop its ‘whinging’
The American voters don't give much of a f-ck about foreign affairs I think.
There isn't very much of a peep out of them from what I can see about this blossoming American friendship with Putin + the potential carving up of Ukraine, or about the threats the US is making to its allies. If anything riles them up and could cause a backlash, it's domestic abuses by Trump and Musk, and the corruption and incompetence of the admin. - not the damage they cause around the world.
The way its heading, I'm afraid we'll see some kind of detente with China as well. Probably a big summit of the Great Men, with Trump, Xi and maybe Putin too all doing World Leader Pretend?
What utterly depresses me is that it's not a slow boil undermining of democracy where nobody realises what's happening until the horse has bolted, it's a smash and grab right in front of our noses, with zero attempt to disguise it, just bare faced denials and abuse when called out on it. If it was just Trump and a few loyalists - AKA Trump 2017-2020 that would be one thing, but this version of Trump MkII has him surrounded by attack dogs in suits, undermining of the judiciary with Musk trying to buy his choice of Supreme Court judge, media suppression, attacks on freedom of speech, demonising of non-WASP citizens all backed up ably, not by a dusty department of propaganda but by the might of the billionaires who control social media.
I read somewhere that 45% of women who voted, voted for Trump. What the f**k was wrong with American women? With black Americans? With latino Americans? With Asian Americans? You reap what you sow, but unfortunately we all have to reap it too. F**kin idiots.
Some may say Im being melodramatic - BUT to me its hurtling toward eventual war in rest of europe and alot sooner than we might think. Essentially ww3.
Where trump is concerned with this deal he is using that old trick .. quote for a job but be crazily too high priced. Doing so because you have to quote but dont want the job.
Ukraine/Zelensky CANNOT, I repeat CANNOT accept this "deal".
This THREAD well worth a read - UNROLLED version below:
Here is this thread UNROLLED - well worth the read:
Europe inc UK has to now detach completely from Trumps USA. And have the courage and belief to do so. All This is just not right and utterly dystopian ..
Any american with any values who reads this would see it as the last straw and wake the fck up and take back there country.
Russians queuing up to crawl through a replica of a pipe 800 of em died in

Zelenski should just delay as long as possible and if needed sign eventually but only if US military support continues. Look to renegotiate whenever a democrat gets back in.
I have to say though even by Russian standards that ceasefire was an absolute joke. If Trump doesn't take the hump over their actions he's an agent simple as.
Is this a money grab or USA dont actually want Zelenskyy to sign an agreement ? Would a democrat administration just cancel it ?
putin is sick, it’s pretty obvious from looking at him, but yeah he could definitely hang on a few more years or something suddenly happens.
Send a letter of complaint to Zelensky
It’s a newsworthy current affairs event when a head of state makes such a statement in an interview aimed at audience in Europe
Especially since there apparently was an attempt planned on Putin by Ukrainian intelligence which Biden admin interfered in and made it clear they don’t want to occur, now that Biden is gone I doubt Ukrainians would be as restrained
Or maybe he knows something we don’t
Or maybe it’s a signal to someone in Russia
Are we back to "Putin only has 3 months to live"? We know that predictions with the number 3 in them have a habit of looking ridiculous later in (see also 3 day war).
Counting on Putin or Trump dying soon as a solution is not the answer
I wonder if that's why Zelensky is mentioning it? Putin's death would be the perfect off-ramp for Russia. They could pin everything on him, hand over a few sacrificial scapegoats to the ICC, withdraw back to the 2021 borders and the majority of the international community would welcome them back into the fold, santions lifted and likely even some "humanitarian" assistance could be on the table. From Ukraine's POV, it's probably a good idea to remind the Silovicki and Oligarchs of this: they can save what's left of their fortunes if they kill the boss.
What VERY CLEARLY struck me was TRUMP’s body language when he was asked about the missing US soldiers. Like saying ‘ I Do’nt know what you are talking about’ - question goes COMPLETELY over his head/face glazed over- next question please’
when you think for a mili second about the the main deal breaker on the US side, ie Trump, walking away would be high on the agenda - with all of his bankruptcies, shady deals, seeing income primary ally for himself, there can be only one winner attitude, etc, etc.
That's about twice as much metal as is normal.
that reason is an extremely weak one - at best. Any ‘sane’ country / leader, when they see what Russia has been doing eg invaded for the most part concocted of false reasons, Burcha massacre, treatment of POW, bombing community centres , hospitals high rise residential buildings, railway stations , playgrounds, etc, etc, etc, etc they would do the exact same thing if not sooner. Russia is a TOTAL OUTLIER and completely off the proverbial RICHTER SCALE
"We're in a war of attrition and it's Ukraine that have the sh1t end of the stick."
Not sure we can say that about Ukraine when the EU and other countries have committed to continued long term support for Ukraine and putin seems determined to ramp up feeding his troops and equipment into the meat grinder the armed forces of Ukraine have made for them along the front lines which have been fairly static for long periods of the war. Particularly high rate of attrition in putin's terrorist forces yesterday.
Agree with you about the USA tactics since Trump took office being a joke but its to be expected from a want to be TV star that he just plays things to make himself popular.
Yeah pretty much. If the USA stayed nuetral the EU could take Russia. But looks like they would side with Russia.
These "peace" talks from the Americans are an utter joke.
One week they go to Ukraine and propose a deal that the Russians will never accept.
The next week they go to the Russians and propose a deal the Ukrainians will never accept.
It's not only pointless, the "deals" being proposed are clearly stupid. I mean who gives a sh1t about mineral rights in territory no one knows who will ultimately control.
The grim reality is that there will be no peace deal. Both sides will fight until one side buckles and is forced into accepting an unpalatable deal. As of right now, it's the Russians who are increasingly in the stronger position. In absolute terms, they've suffered more than Ukraine. Unfortunately, in relative terms, they odds tilt against Ukraine.
We're in a war of attrition and it's Ukraine that have the sh1t end of the stick.
Anyone else think JD Vance looks just like a capybara?
He does have a healthy, entirely platonic, appreciation of masculine beauty
There is literally nothing going on in the mind of Trump except for Vlad topless riding that horse
Very much so.
Could get all Death of Stalin
Russians won't like that one bit. They can do anything to people but take their money, soon sparks will fly!
No, I think that a lot of them will be relieved, and will take a different path when Putin is gone. He's bleeding them dry financially, and thats something that they will want to change.. the question of who replaces him though is a tough one, be prepared for blood shed when the selection committee meets to decide the new Putin.
When the Putrid we all love and admire dies - he doesn't - You didn't think the FSB had 3 of them just for security, surely? Putrid whack-a-mole. The >bleep< is dead - long live the >bleep<.
Sounds about right.
