He doesn't care about the soldiers. This is obvious to anyone paying attention to Trump's conduct where he has shown contempt for US soldiers. If the staff thought it was something he cared about, they might have stopped spreading hate and updated Trump on it.
He doesn't care about anyone but himself. Any concern expressed for others is purely for him to spread hate or grandstand.
I think this is a more valid criticism rather than trying to say he didn't care about the soldiers because he didn't know about it.
Trump picked the staff. The "best people". A bunch of amoral incompetent stooges picked because they would do Trump's bidding, no matter how vile or amoral or illegal.

If I, a randon Irishman, knows that there are active-duty US Soldiers missing, presumed dead, in Lithuania, it's fair to say that it's gross negligence for their commander in chief to not know about it.
