‘2025 Irish EV sales’
I am still in shock about how bad the infrastructure in Ireland is for EV cars. I think once they invest in it then finally EV cars can take off here.
«snip: see mod note
Agreed about food and I'll include water quality in that, but if you believe that modern combustion engines aren't seriously problematic, then you've been well and truly duped.
I'll leave it there as this isn't the thread for this discussion.
Mad_lad, youre at your usual antics again… polluting every thread with off-topic crap that most people on here dont care about. Go over to the politics forum or the conspiracy forum or whatever takes your fancy but try to stop wrecking every thread with the same stuff… or maybe do your other usual thing…. get banned again and be off boards for another 6 months.
To be honest, I'd say the added ingredients in "food" these days pose a far greater risk, to humanity, though that's not important because it's Not Earth saving. Modern diesel exhaust, petrols are far cleaner. It's the older diesels that are the issue.
There's too much emphasis on the working man to save the planet yet our politicians and companies are on planes several times a year for meetings and conferences which can mostly be done on teams, zoom etc these days but it's always the politicians that talk about saving the Earth but don't lead by example. More hypocrisy.
Mod Note: Reminder this thread is for discussion of 2025 EV sales, there's a thread if you want to debate the environmental impact of EVs again.
Fair enough, I suppose I'm lucky enough that I don't drive Ev to save money but for concerns over the air we breath.
Ya, I checked that out. Not much to it, inspection, diagnostic and pollen filter I believe.
Love the white myself, good job too as I've no choice for the 38k one.
No, that's not what I mean, it's the hypocrisy element of it that I have an issue with.
To hell with air quality though right, so long as the individual isn't inconvenienced.
Surprisingly, I really like the red one over the grey one. Worth a look. 15k service intervals but 10 year warranty. Service costs about €140 from memory.
A better alternative in your mind. A hell of a lot of people think low range and long charge times is a big step backward. + the high cost, unknown battery degradation which even a small amount is bad enough on an already low range car.
Most people are happy enough in their ICE which does it's intended purpose of getting from A to B and many don't want to spend the money on loans or be in big debt for a car.
There's plenty of people out there far more sensible with money than many of us here and won't go pay 40K + on a car to save some money on petrol or diesel.
Nice one, grants do help to be fair. I was really impressed with the quality, I enjoyed the lovely clunk when closing the door.
Don't be ridiculous !
Yes no regrets, they were Toyota lads for years though.
From the original avensis to the next avensis etc One said when the 3 years is up, it’s getting passed to the wife and he will go again with a new one. They would have been really anti EV before hand but very quickly changed their tune. I’m sure the grant helped with that though!
I was thinking of trading in for one of these, great value at the moment at 38k. They're happy with them then?
I don't think there's is such a thread, can't think why not
It's not that I'm against ICE cars it's just when there's a better alternative why would somebody bother with them
When you consider the price of electricity in that time doubled you can't but say dino juice was subsidised and I guarantee you if the price goes up again the govt will subsidise again
I'm sure there’s a thread for diesel and all it's great benefits to mankind and the environment but it would be great if we could we back to EVs.
One incredibly reliable diesel, hold on to it as long as you can !
Don't be ridiculous, petrol and diesel have extortionately high taxes and should be around 65 c/L at most if it weren't for extortion taxes.
50 Imp Mpg 5.64 L/100km would give 1062 Kms range with 60 Litre tank.
My old Id3 77 Kwh around 73 Kwh usable would get maybe 350 Kms. That is a massive difference, of course more efficient diesels will get more Mpg.
It sure is a 3 pot, it's got a nice sound to it vs soulless EV which I suppose is fine on a boring commute when you're in stop and go traffic. Sure there are better sounding cars for big bucks.
Manual, yeah, you know, some people actually like driving a car vs the appliance like experience most EV offer with big screens tech , menus to scroll through while driving etc. Each to their own, I would rather a NA 4 pot 2.0l though for sure. I love the bike because of that much more linear power and that gives me more of a thrill these days , cars won't be the same after experiencing motorbiking.
I get 1,200km from a full tank in my Renault Megane estate 1.5 litre diesel. Great range and great car.
Yeah 1000km is definitely possible out of a modern diesel given the right conditions. An average of ~5L/100km, easily done at M50 speeds.
Granted, 55 litres of diesel is the equivalent stored energy of a 533kWh battery pack so in reality it's a shocking return on the input energy.
commuting in off peak hours around the full m50 at 80-100kmph average, I usually see around 1,050km before I refill. It’s a 2.0L bmw, 55L tank.
Doing 1000km from 55L (thats 620miles from 12galons) only requires 50-55mph.
Yep I know that but that's what the govt were pushing at the time!
One year we got as far as Maastricht on a tank. Which from Dublin was just over 1000km.
Although the car was trying to convince us at the start that we'd get 1200km.
We only ever saw that kind of range on the longer motorway journeys, 800-900km normally.
We all know your dislike for fossil fuelled cars but temporarily reducing taxes (not tax exempting or subsidising the market rate) is not the same as subsidising motor fuel.
Now offering an €8k subsidy/vrt exemption on new EVs is a different thing entirely. Not that I'm criticising that decision or anything but let's call a spade a spade
