Serves Vance right to be frank. Of course Donnie doesn't actually care about any other ticket than his own, it wouldn't surprise me if he has it in his mind to try to illegally run again.

This sort of feeds into my theory that beyond the whole Heritage Foundation skullduggery at play, that Vance was little more than a prop for the election. Essentially a younger canditate designed to show up how old Biden was. Donnie certainly didn't have any future GOP tickets in mind, since he doesn't actually give a flying feck about the GOP, and probably never did.

You just proved my point. If many of the foreign software engineers were hired because they were the best that's a meritocracy not a DEI hire.

What we don't want is a company saying we need to hire x,y and z before they've even done the interviews.

If he’s still alive, he’ll look to run again for sure. I know some would accuse me of hyperbole but his first 3 weeks of the presidency have been repeatedly testing the fences of American political safeguards which look flimsy at best. If the GOP are happy to endorse him and he can get some SC ruling on it he will run again.

The Chinese influence in Serbia (+ the Balkans generally) is maybe a bit oversold.

Am open to correction if someone has the numbers, but I think investment from Chinese govt. and others is dwarfed by what the EU has put/is putting in there.

The EU doesn't toot its own horn much, or sell itself. It also doesn't really play any local corruption game of buying off the right people the way China or Russia might.

All the EU accession state money has to be accounted for to many stakeholders, the institutions and the Parliament + it is quite open what it is spent on and there's OLAF as well.

For recipients (edit: and the EU itself…), engaging in corruption with it is harder (but not impossible). Suppose it is similar with likes of USAID under discussion on thread, where the bad-faith posters intent on monstering it have been able to zero in and post about very specific things it spent money on that make them angry (or so they claim anyway, I suspect there's a few actually couldn't give a crap). How can they do this I wonder?

I think corrupt politicians and businessmen will always far prefer Chinese and Russian money (even if the quantum is smaller, they can keep more for themselves!).

Just a quick look at the referenced CBS link shows that Trump enjoys a relatively high level of support on many issues. It does not show an increasing level of support since he took office. Not surprising that people tend to approve of what they just voted for. We will see later when the effects of DJT become evident……

So far , the overwhelming majority of those impacted by Musks nonsense would be DC based and therefore almost certainly Democrat party voters so they wouldn't be supporting him anyway.

It'll take a while for the impact to work its way down to the MAGA voters , directly or indirectly.

For example , the cancellation of all the USAID activities has just f*cked a huge number of farmers as they were selling all their crops to USAID for shipment overseas.

It'll take time , but eventually those crops will be ready for harvest and they won't have a buyer and they'll start to lose their farms.

Let's see who they blame for it when that happens.

Likewise all the farmers whos export crops of Soy bean etc. are about to get hammered with tariffs.

I did have them in mind when posting alright and yes, they wouldn’t be a happy bunch right now- not sure would they impact satisfaction levels significantly but then again depends who the poll people are asking.

Shorterm and “just in” satisfaction ratings are one thing - I think 6 months from now that’s where we might see the “dawning”- Americans were asleep at the last election so there’s no reason to think they have gained some miraculous insight since then. As far as most are concerned Trump is making America great again

Electorate to Biden - why haven't you fixed inflation, solved the middle east crisis which existed for decades, and sorted out the extremely complex war involving Ukraine?? Oh... and you're too old!?

Electorate to Trump - you are old too, but that's no problem. Here - have a gold medal for banning plastic straws and picking on trans people!

Elect a clown... Expect a circus

When impacts start to come in, Trump and co. will just turn and blame someone else, if it gets bad enough.

An internal whipping boy, or black "foreign hands" (the dastardly and scheming Danes and Canadians perhaps🙄).

Americans do seem to be catastrophically dumb in the collective (much more so than I ever thought 😔) and I fear they might swallow any old horseshít fed to them, and act on it.

Hardly utterly humiliated. That's an exaggeration.

It can't be a surprise to anyone that Trump isn't going automatically endorse his VP to run in 2028. Therefore I really can't see how it's humiliating when he doesn't.

He’s now going to be responsible for the war starting again in Gaza.

We had a ceasefire before he came in.

He's in 3 weeks and that’s now over.

He’s steering the world to war and who knows past that.

Why did you reference "natives"? If anything it's harder to hire non US citizens.... 🤣

Trump addressed that aspect at the start saying “there will be some pain for Americans” or similarly worded statement - likely the understatement of the year but certainly he’s propositioned that Americans will be impacted.

Hopefully their hurt will be great which may in turn, create public revolt - very hard to see that happening though given what America has accepted from the MAGA crowd to date

How it’s been said up to now in my MNC experience

“We are proud of X % being female Y % being black and Z% being latinx”

Alongside all sorts of events to celebrate

A-lot of this stuff is implied and will remain so, really depends on top C suite

TBH it’s none of the governments business who is hired and not by a company, and that discrimination works both ways with positive and negative discrimination

Do you think that 'DEI Hires' means people will be hired for roles they are not qualified for, and not that it means non-standard people should be considered for roles to overcome the historical expectation of someone of a particular type being the primary candidate; i.e. white, male, straight etc for management, leadership as a default expectation.

What if I told you it was the latter, and not the former?

And if you say "Yeah, but people should be hired on merit and merit alone, explain then why Ivanka ended up with a role in the White House when Trump was President last time.

So Trump has just signed an order to bring back plastic straws because paper ones "explode"

Basically he's addicted to Diet Coke and doesn't like the paper straws, so like some demented king he has demanded they be changed, and when asked about the impact he replied

“I don’t think that plastic is going to affect the shark very much as they’re ... munching their way through the ocean,”

    **** me.

”letting all hell break out” is just code for kill the Palestinians - it’s obvious at this stage that Israel /America see a ceasefire as an inconvenience - Israel doesn’t care about the hostages and anyway, once all hostages are released where’s the negotiation power for Hamas?

"Meritocracy" is just MAGA-speak for "White men only" as far as I can tell. If they cared about merit, Trump would have been in prison by now. He merits it after all.

I think it's clear the ceasefire was only ever a temporary measure by Israel to get remaining hostages back while they can, I suspect once last hostage is handed over they will very quickly find a reason to resume joyfully killing as many Palestinians as possible, even if Trump doesn't encourage them to start sooner

There's also the shadow of fiaso and failure that have a knack of being attached to Chinese-backed projects.

For example, Montenego's Chinese-backed, Road to Nowhere:

As much as people might complain about the EU, the stuctural projects it runs tend to result in something more than silly white-elephants, with the cost of which end up having to be bailed out by the EU, as in this case with Montenegro.

China is not particularly good at this, and I'm hoping that nations looking for support are finally starting to catch on.

Israel has a free hand to do whatever they like especially with Trump in the white house. It will be straight forward enough to find a reason to resume the genocide against the Palestinian people .

Chinas MO is build some extraordinarily expensive piece of infrastructure in either a strategic country location wise or that is rich in mineral resources - knowing the country won’t have a hope in hell of paying the money back - then rape the land of all its precious metals in payment.
It’s a deal with the devil is all it is.

I notice Musk is now claiming there is massive fraud and wastage in the American social security system, plus those on any sort of disability or illness benefits etc, describing the whole thing as a 'scam'. God help anyone relying on such payments, it sounds like they are in for a rough time.

About a month into his "presidency" and it's exhausting. I'm torn between switching off completely and trying to stay in the know. The man is a complete and utter moron, but there's nothing more dangerous than a moron who thinks he's smart. He's already in danger of ruining a very fragile ceasefire with his Gaza-Lago nonsense.

Oh and he's certainly running again in four years. 100%

    lol

Asked if he viewed Vance as his successor in the 2028 presidential election, Trump replied: "No, but he's very capable."

Not a chance. Constitution limits anyone to two terms.

I know but that amendment was only brought in after FDR's 4th term. I fully expect a legal challenge to that, and I'm not convinced it won't be successful either.
