I think PHEVs are going to be an increasing problem.
Was at charger last weekend and needed one 15mins charge to complete my journey and there was one BEV on the DC and a Phev using the AC charger not entirely sure why. I told the next BEV who turned up that I'd be gone in 10 mins.
But it makes likely sense for Phev to be sitting on these chargers.
Back to kimmage. Still shít. This lad is plugged into the CCS but isn't charging. The other CCS is being used by a taxi (unofficial hub for taxis). 50kw is blocked by merc phev charging on AC.
I'm píssed off with this tesla owner because the charger is showing free on the app but he hasn't bothered starting the charge.
A friend of mine has a phev with DC charging plug. He told me that over Christmas when shopping centre car park was jammed. He went to charger and attached cable, but didn't charge. " I got a space, and why would I charge when I've got the engine too".
I know it's just anecdotal, but it's still an attitude that will spread.
The devices know that they are plugged in, the overcharge should be high if plugged in and not charging after, a minute or so, so you can't just remotely stop and avoid the overcharge fee.
I think they have that on the Tesla superchargers...

Was charging yesterday on the AC ones at Rathfarmham and a 131 skoda diesel pulled in beside me.
I asked him sarcasticly "do you want me to help you plug it in"?
Completely oblivious he says "it's not electric, it's diesel".
"And you're blocking the space if someone needs to charge their car"
"I'll only be 10 minutes, I'm going to the shop".

Does it know the car (account) if it's plugged in but no one's started a charge?

AC should never be an option with DC.
Can you charge at an esb station using just a debit card, or do you need to install an app or buy a charging card.

All of the dual CCS chargers I have seen have a Debit card reader. The AC pedestals only have the membership card/App facility. I can't be sure, but I suspect that the old CCS/Chademo/AC stations still only have the membership option.
Is that the one at Dealz? Great spot, I'm there quite a lot as the 11/22kW AC is helpful when I'm up in dublin visiting in/out laws and I combine visiting with shopping.

It depends. It' more reliable using the app. Older units have no way on the charger itself. In theory you can also go through website, not log on and pay for a charge and charger will start.
AC units typycally have no debit card reader.
Best way is ESB ecars app with an account linked to a card and if a regular user then an ESB ecars RFID card helps and is quicker and easier than the app and more likely to work.
There are lots of other non ESB ecars providers. See plugshare app for all brands in Ireland.
Yeah, ESB eCars card is free, so no reason not to get one.
Down side to using a cc debit card is you get no immediate record of the charging session other than the payment. Unless you take a photo of the screen.
With the app and the RFID is you can see the details in the app on your account.
Another advantage of the app you can see how much you're battery is at and charging rate. So if you are away from the car you can see when it slows down and if you've enough to disconnect. Handy if you've an older EV with no love connection to the EV.
Advantage of the Cc debit card is you don't need another App. Disadvantage you might get a cheaper rate with an account or the App, RFID card.
Depends how much you are using it. I like the app as I can see how far along charging I am.
