Got email from Sky https://www.sky.com/shop/pre-reg/mobile
Only problem is, it doesnt recognise Irish mobile phone numbers :-)
Is your S21 up to date?
I have a Pixel and needed to use two third-party apps to enable VoLTE and WiFi Calling.
No 5G still on Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
It's crazy Sky Mobile delayed their launch by over a year and still couldn't get the basics to work on launch.
I'm close to cancelling Sky. One of my reasons for moving was VoLTEand WiFi calling, as I'm in a fair to fringe teception area, and miss occasional calls. The WiFi calling would solve that but it wasn't enabled for AnPost, who also use Vodafone. The end of 3G dropped all calls to 2G, and though I'd good 4g data, I'd no VoLTE to use it. I've just spent 1.5 hours (yes, 90 minutes) on the SKY help line, while 'Pashreen' tried to turn on my VoLTE, to no avail. She was obviously reading from the screen, I'd already done everything she suggested, she even went off script and asked me to change the APN MMC and MNC numbers to UK, which wouldn't even save, let alone work, I explained why to her. Then she asked me to follow menu paths which don't exist on an S21, I had to tell her that they were menu options for a Pixel, I'd seen them before. So frustrating, U can't get to talk to an actual tech, who would know, and need to know, much more than a bot screen. I tried asking Three support if my phone may have been blacklisted while owned by the original owner, they wouldn't let me know, because obviously a different name than mine is attached to the sim number. It's exhausting.
I'm with Vodafone who Sky piggyback off and have been having intermittent issues ever since they switched off 3g in my area. I'm showing 5g nearly constantly but Speedtest shows less than 1mb/s. Sometimes Speedtest cant even connect at all. I'm in a "very good" Vodafone 5g area according to Comreg maps.
Vodafone switching off 3g service has been a disaster for me personally and I can't wait to port out next month when my deal is up.
Mentioned upthread a little but I'm having occasional problems with mobile data just not working. It has 5G, but just gets nothing back. It often happens when moving from one cell tower to the other, it seems. Airplane mode for 10 seconds sorts it out.
But this is a right PITA if you're driving and using Android Auto. And are threading through backroads to avoid multiple accidents.
Following up with the 088 provider, looks like a call routing issue - they will contact the partner network to investigate.
The whole LTE only though SIM/account is meant to connect to 5G, following up on that also.
Doesn't seem like Sky Mobile Irelands QA before going live, was all that intensive. All of these issues could have been avoided/fixed with propper testing before launch.
I'd say so. Now for some Nerdy stuff. Theres a Great little app called ,'Volte Check', it displays if your phone is VoLTE capable, your carrier is capable, and if VoLTE is turned on. That's a yes, yes, no on mine, but it then provides two methods to turn on, one being the phones own menu, which of course has no Volte toggle switch, the other is a detailed look at the phones info, (list below), and a top right menu item to show IMS registration status, a big no in my case.
The full info list shows VoLTE Provisioned off and greyed out. More worrying are the bottom buttons for 'Trigger Carrier Provisioning' , which is also greyed out. Is this the phone or the sim that's responsible? They're available on my old S9 with the dead AnPost sim in it. Could this mean that Sky can't provision stuff like Volte if provisioning is not allowed? I'll find out
Same issue here too pixel 7 pro update to android 15 and still no 5G.
Have you went to Settings/Network and Internet/Choose Sims/Preferred Network Type, and from the list choose 5G/4G/3G/2G
5g working fine for me on S24
Updated my pixel 7 to Android 15 just now and unfortunately still no 5G. So for those who need 5G better to go with Gomo I think
I'll ring that number early tomorrow, too busy with other stuff today, too late now.
I wonder if they haven’t provisioned your account on the IMS or something?
No joy. When I created a new APN, it deleted the other one. I seen that before when I tried adding another APN, depending on the values used it would vanish the original.
First issue I might have found with Sky Mobile IE is that there might be an issue with calling or call routing to the funky 088 numbers used for ‘Internet of Things’/IoT/'machine use' 13 digit numbers for the likes of electic gates. More testing needed to confirm.
Thanks. I don't have the last 2 values, I'll give then a go.
This is from my S24 .VoLte is working on mines
So the S24 is provisioned for 4G calling, aka VoLte. I've just come back from a quick visit to the SKY shop/booth in Liffey Valley where I signed on. Helpful lady there went through my phone with practised hands, confirming what I knew, my phone is ready, the carrier is ready, they just haven't provisioned my settings. She gave me the help number to ring, just said to say you want to cancel, and you'll get a real human, hopefully not one abroad.
I'd like to see a screen shot of the APN list on the S24, is there only one entry like mine, or is there a seperate one named IMS. I'd be curious to see the actual APN settings too, they're fairly sparse on mine, just the name and url, the country and carrier, and a list of all the APN types.
My apn list
Hi Folks. Changed from Vodafone to Sky last week. Got the sim in the post yesterday morning. Activated SIM about 9amat about 5pm lost network on my Vodafone sim, popped in the sky Sim all working OK, Voice over data and WiFi calling both working, getting same data speeds in house as I was with Vodafone. So all happy so far. Using a Samsung S24
Change the +4428 to 048 and it'll be treated as a national call.
Vodafone/Three/eir are only ones doing the inflation+3% yearly increase. Sky do do a yearly increase but you're usually free to leave the contract early, however with mobile the price is being advertised as "for life" so shouldn't be any increases at all.
Yes think its slightly cheaper in this example, but assume the price could change for the better/worse depending on when ordered. Seems the A55 is more expensive to buy outright than other places from a quick check there now.
S24 is average of €24.67 a month on the 36 month deal for the phone only, says on site they stop charging you after contract ends and the SIM is a separate contract - presume this is a dig at Vodafone/Three/eir.
Can't see anything about CPI +3% like the others if anyone knows?
No it doesn't - the plan is 15 per month on top. So you end up paying 888 for the phone
Does this price include a Sky Mobile plan too? If so it's kind of an insane deal. A S24 is 919.99 in DID so not only is 888 cheaper but if it includes three years of unlimited calls, texts and data it's a steal.
What phone are you using? I have iphone 12 and partner has Samsung S24, both have wifi calling. Conscious for other phones on this thread (especially Google phones) may not have available yet.
Am hoping we have joined at the right time and all the crap they had initially are all sorted, thankfully no issues for either of us so far (almost 2 weeks in).
Has anyone bought a phone from them? Took this from their site, 36 month contract for S24 phone that seems to decrease monthly price in the last 12 months. The 24M contract is the same craic with the monthly price much higher initially, and then decreases for last 12 months.
Feels a bit complex for me but will look more into it when/if iPhones come along.
Not for me on s23 ultra anyways. No option to turn it on
Have the issues with WiFi calling been resolved? Planning to leave 48 as they cant offer it and badly needed in my current house during the day
I had this exact same problem, it would get stuck on E or G after a restart of the phone, after using airplane mode, after disconnecting from Wi-Fi or even while using LTE / 5G it would happen. Not sure what is happening.
Sound. Thanks for quick reply, it's been bugging me
Pixel issue, it has a whitelist of networks for which 5G is approved for. Sky isn’t one of them. It was mentioned earlier in this thread that the next Android update will remove the whitelist.
Switched to sky last week, I've a pixel 7a,
I'm not getting 5g, just LTE, but with good speeds. - I'm in an area with perfect 5g network, and have been in larger towns with the phone, still no 5g.
Is this a network issue? A pixel issue? All settings are present and correct as far as I'm aware.
Anyone else having this issue?
