Original thread:
This is the closer one, around 6km from Ukr border
This is 95km from the Ukraine border and north west of Kursk city.
The dog is thrilled.
Be ironic if loosing a second Kursk led to the downfall of Putin 🤣
Last year we were all waiting for Ukraine's counter offensive and the multiple areas they could try break through. My God Ukraine really played a blinder this time around.
Japan could start pressuring them around the contested Kuril Islands. There has been no formal peace treaty between russia and Japan since WW2. Everyone should start walking on their toes now while the pressure is on.
Be careful of map projections, Russia often uses them to make themselves appear bigger
Yes Russia is big but most of it is empty and most of the population is in the south west
They best not get too angry lest they lose control and end up jumping out of a 10th storey window when walking the dog.
I saw the photos of that yesterday and looking at them all parked up nose-to-tail thought to myself: "there's not a single one of them has seen a day's action in Ukraine; and there's not a single one of them has spoken to anyone who's fought in Ukraine."
And then I thought: "they'll be the lads whose family paid good money to keep them well away from the frontline, and they're all going to be seriously pissed off when they hear their sons were killed in Russia by an enemy that's supposedly been destroyed several times over in a war that's not happening.
You'd see even the supposed differing news outlets in Russia, they'd still have a slant of look what happened here, it could happen to you. They still project a thinly veiled threat against the populace. You'd know that's why the Kremlin permit them to broadcast news. Serving their purpose.
and this reply…
He was arrested for spreading fake news discrediting the Russian army.
Took them a couple of days but they finally released their guidelines for how the media should cover it -
*Discussions of a “new front” opening up in the "special military operation" are to be avoided at all cost.
*The ongoing fighting in the Kursk region must be compared to the World War II Battle of Kursk.
*Any mention of Ukrainian troops advancing toward the city of Kurchatov (Kursk Nuclear Power Plant) is forbidden.
*News outlets should focus on civilian casualties (using "vividly descriptive reports") and on the Russian military’s (imaginary) “successes” in Kursk.
*Media should assure their audiences that "ample temporary accommodations" are available for displaced persons.
*Must emphasize Putin “won’t desert anyone in need” and the “enormous response efforts” of federal officials.
As for their online useful idiots they've probably also received instructions by now and could appear in the thread later today.
Will be interesting to see the next Ukrainian update on losses inflicted on the Russians. Must be a significant uptick over the past few days.
BBC now running this as main story, is getting more attention, saying could be a thin line between masterstroke and miscalculation. Certainly a dramatic event and good for the Russians to get a little taste of the war on their own soil. Let's see where it all ends
A far from insignificant chunk of Russian land Ukraine has managed to gain control over, so far.
There are reports of Russians who released videos of all the burning Russian wrecks were detained, they really really want to try to control the narrative
but can they send messages from Himars there?
If Russia had captured the same amount of land in the same amount of time as Ukraine has done these last three days, you'd have people coming on here saying that Ukraine would have to negotiate peace very soon or be completely overran.
Someone is going to have to avoid stairs for a very long time…
BBC interview with Zelensky few weeks back
He makes an interesting point that preservation of life is their highest objective which is why “we see 6-8x the Russian dead, who often don’t even bother with their wounded”
Can only hope they mine the crap out of it, hold as much of it as possible until at least November US elections. The Russians will go hell for leather to retake it, they are already working on it

nothing like the smell of roast porc in the morning! Wonder what Ukraines endgame is in Kursk? Will they make a mess of it and retreat at some stage ?
Not going to post the video of one of the destroyed convoys but you can see from this cropped image of the canopy of one of the transports what it was that did the damage.
that kunt should just be glad the Ukrainians aren't rapists like her country men .
Will see if this is the case.
Russia have scrambled at this stage and are starting to put together some stronger forms of resistance and counter attacks.
Human rights activists have identified 5,340 cases of disappearances of Ukrainian civilians in occupied areas that Russian forces control. These are mainly photographers, journalists, politicians, activists. 215 of those that have dissappeared with no trace are children.
We've asked this question before. All we can do is watch how it develops and donate to Ukraine's defensive effort if we can.
Here today. Gone tomorrow.
@greenpilot - Ukraine won't be advancing on the airbase. It's in another Oblast and 300 km from Ukraine. The distance involved makes last nights hit significant though.
Lipetsk-2 continued..
There are also some noteworthy aircraft types stationed here.
We see 5 of the latest "5th Generation" SU-57 parked up.
An older Su-27 from the Falcons Aerobatic Team, still in its demo colours:
And an assortment of older types, including SU-24 bombers, with their wings swept back for parking
It's unclear when Google Earth was updated, but they are relatively recent and I find it extraordinary that such an important airfield, so close to the front, would not have had more robust defences. If Ukraine take the field, it will be a monumental coup, and will most likely result in the "relocation" of whichever aircraft are left. I imagine local bloggers will notice a major uptake in flights OUT of this airbase soon if it is clear that Ukrainian forces are advancing on it.
We live in interesting times.
Interesting so 6000 lads rampaging around
So if Ukrainians were stopped why declare highest level of emergency?
