Great move by Ukraine, are the Russian army willing to level their own towns i wonder.
of course they are…. this is Russia we are dealing with… not some civilised country.
They couldn't care less about some sh1tty town/village near the border.
So if Russians die in Russia and not Ukraine the family gets nothing in compensation
Explains why seeing so many POWs
There's definitely an element of 'cause as much damage as possible now before the orange ****-flinging baboon gets in to power' about this incursion.
As already said I think it's a bold and daring move. I just don't think it's going to be a major turning point, though certainly an interesting development. As always, it will take time to see its true significance, which may be psychological more than anything else.
Interesting parallel to the Hamas invasion of Israel last year, clearly caught them off guard. However I expect the Ukrainian military is behaving in a much more ethical way than Hamas did (though wouldn't blame them if they gave the Russian population a little taste of what Ukraine has gone through)
There were images of a super long convey of Russians on their way to Kursk yesterday. It seems like they haven't learn their lesson since the shitshow of the Russian Kyiv Convey of 2022 that this is a very bad idea.
Putin is personally getting involved and making statements over this incursion. The top brass must be panicking and making more stupider decisions than normal.
Call it whatever you like, but as sure as hell, it has put the wind up in the Russians… now they have a difficult choice to make, remove troops from other areas for a counterattack, and leave those areas exposed and vulnerable to Ukraine attack, rinse, and repeat? or what?
Chatter that there was more than one column destroyed last night.
Also, confirmation from Ukraine on the airfield hit in Lipetsk.
Ukraine says it hit Russian military airfield in Lipetsk region | Reuters
"Several sources of ignition were recorded, a large fire broke out and multiple detonations were observed," Kyiv's military said on the Telegram messaging app.Russian Su-34, Su-35 and MiG-31 warplanes were based at the airfield, it said.A security source told Reuters that the attack was carried out by drones as dozens of planes and helicopters stood on the airfield, as well as a warehouse containing 700 guided bombs.
Anyone got footage of the talking heads and their reactions… I’m guessing “impudent” Ukrainians or some such and calling for them to be wiped off the face of the planet. Nukes and some more nukes.
The Russian mindset has been nobody will dare invade us and we don't need to put resources into protecting our borders… but, they have spent a fortune keeping their expensive nuclear arsenal in tip top condition!?
I’d say the rinse and repeat is inevitable unless Putin deploys his scarce resources to shore up his entire border.
Either way is a massive and continuous win for Ukraine.
could this be the black swan event ? Could the house of cards finally collapse ?
There is no alternative in urban fighting against a determined or half determined opponent but ending up leveling it, that applies to retaking the Ukrainian towns as well. It's the same in every war.
Russian MSM is likely not reporting on it.
Not a whole lot of Russian aviation being involved. Was hoping a few would be taken out by AA and stingers. Are they scared of losing them and F16s with amraams?
You mean swan lake? Hell no. Russian state media reported that 17 Ukrainian incursions consisting of 1000 soldiers driving 2000 tanks were destroyed 4 times before they crossed the border.
so, if vatniks are contracted for special military fcukup in Ukraine, is their contract void if military fcukup happens on ruSSia territory?
Two columns
Lipetsk-2 Airport seems to be a major staging point for attacks in Ukraine, given the aircraft types stationed there relatively recently, plus the usual carefree ammunition dump out in the fields towards the town.
Here is an overview of the field itself:
NASA published details of fires picked up by satellite a number of hours ago. Note the position of the fires with respect to the V-shape of the runways.
We can now zoom in on that position and we find the ammunition dump that was attacked last night. Please note the carefree and usual manner in which the Russians stack bombs and munitions out in the open in clear lines, similar to how we would stack gas cylinders.
In one section, you can clearly see the online of munitions hidden underneath the tarpaulin.
These are not to be confused with the white drop-tanks which you can spot scattered around the airfield itself.
Interesting so 6000 lads rampaging around
So if Ukrainians were stopped why declare highest level of emergency?
Lipetsk-2 continued..
There are also some noteworthy aircraft types stationed here.
We see 5 of the latest "5th Generation" SU-57 parked up.
An older Su-27 from the Falcons Aerobatic Team, still in its demo colours:
And an assortment of older types, including SU-24 bombers, with their wings swept back for parking
It's unclear when Google Earth was updated, but they are relatively recent and I find it extraordinary that such an important airfield, so close to the front, would not have had more robust defences. If Ukraine take the field, it will be a monumental coup, and will most likely result in the "relocation" of whichever aircraft are left. I imagine local bloggers will notice a major uptake in flights OUT of this airbase soon if it is clear that Ukrainian forces are advancing on it.
We live in interesting times.
@greenpilot - Ukraine won't be advancing on the airbase. It's in another Oblast and 300 km from Ukraine. The distance involved makes last nights hit significant though.
Here today. Gone tomorrow.
We've asked this question before. All we can do is watch how it develops and donate to Ukraine's defensive effort if we can.
Human rights activists have identified 5,340 cases of disappearances of Ukrainian civilians in occupied areas that Russian forces control. These are mainly photographers, journalists, politicians, activists. 215 of those that have dissappeared with no trace are children.
Will see if this is the case.
Russia have scrambled at this stage and are starting to put together some stronger forms of resistance and counter attacks.
that kunt should just be glad the Ukrainians aren't rapists like her country men .
Not going to post the video of one of the destroyed convoys but you can see from this cropped image of the canopy of one of the transports what it was that did the damage.
nothing like the smell of roast porc in the morning! Wonder what Ukraines endgame is in Kursk? Will they make a mess of it and retreat at some stage ?
delete msg
Can only hope they mine the crap out of it, hold as much of it as possible until at least November US elections. The Russians will go hell for leather to retake it, they are already working on it
