So... it begins. The crossover EV invasion. This is the Kia Niro EV Concept shown at CES tonight, previewing the production Kia Niro EV launching in Q3/Q4.
Arriving in Ireland for the 191 Reg.

380+km EPA (i.e. real world) range (rumors suggest two battery options (40kWh and 64kWh) and this is likely EPA range of the larger)
150kW motor (FWD)
100kW CCS rapid charging (Korea's Agency for Technology and Standards announced on Dec 21st they will officially adopt CCS as their rapid charging standard)

We’re currently deciding between an ID4 and ENiro. We need a tow bar for a bike carrier but absolutely no intention of towing. When we asked the dealer… they said it’s not rated for towing but we can’t get any info for a bike carrier. We don’t want to void the warranty a week after buying the car so hoping someone can provide some info!

If anyone has a 2020/21 ENiro if they have the manual could they see if the nose weight is in it or that? Cos we need to be careful of that too putting 3 bikes on the bike, one of which is electric.

Can anyone recommend a bike rack suitable for 4 bikes for the Niro? Am I better off fitting to roof bars for that (2 adult, 2 kids bikes)?

The eniro is not rated to tow. Even fitting a tow bar could invalidate warranty and insurance, even if only used for bike rack. It has no nose rating.

4 bikes is a lot. If roof mounting max 100kG and you need to physically get them up there and strapped in. May not be easy depending on your own height.

Rear window mount would be a lot and a high chance of scratching something on the car.

Range will reduce but if you drop top speed that will increase range. I look at my actual consumption while driving on longer trips and use that to calculate real range.

Looking to purchase a 2021 Electric Kia Niro. It has 40K mileage and dealer is providing a charger so I only need to find someone to fit it. I am brand new to Electric Vehicles (have being driving diesel engines for a long time) so is there anything I should be looking out for? Thanks

Price is the first start. The free charger typically means they keep the 600 euro seai grant so you are saving around 600 you would pay on top of grant.

I would push dealer hard on price. Used EVs are not selling well and dealer may have had car for months. Private sale may save you 5000 euro and you still have same dealer warranty either way if serviced on time.

Do you own your own home and do you have off-street parking to fix a charger?

Yes, I have my own home and have off street parking for charging :) I went to a few garages and the trade in they offered was similar with them all. Want to do it all through garage as private sale makes me nervous!!

I am concerned that I might not get a good trade in if I decide to change in 3 years but keen to move to electric. I have no use for Diesel any longer as I don't commute and most of my journeys are short around the town.

Interesting comment on the price - I going back to tomorrow to look at another Niro they have so I will question the price and see if he would do anything else. The prices are all 32/33 for the 2021's I have being looking at.

On a different topic, I keep getting an erroneous battery door open warning. Pressing the button behind the flap door a few times fixes it for a while. Anyone else experienced this?

As much as I like the eNiro, I can't help but note this is the third minor problem I've had with it in two years.

I had a door actuator problem where it wouldn't open, and the actuator had to be replaced.

My other issue was the passenger door handle wouldn't operate and needed to be replaced.

The Ionic5 and ID4 definitely bigger than eNiro 21. Not sure about the other two.

I fitted a spare space saver wheel to my 2019 eNiro that only came with a compressor and a can of goo. It fits perfectly, the car is designed to take it. The one I got is for a kia and includes a jack and wheel spanner etc. You can buy kits online for 100-200 euro, but I got mine on adverts for 70 euro. I test fitted it to be sure as sometimes they look to fit but foul the brakes etc. I attempted to fit a Volkswagen space saver and it nearly fit but the hub hole in the middle was slightly too small. You might get cheap ones in scrap yards.

Today was also my worst day for range. I reset the consumption meter on motorway going the full 120km/h, 4 degrees temperature, all heat on, slight uphill. Consumption above 30kW/100km giving a real world range of 230km full to empty. (GOM shows 300km!) I did not need to slow, but on longer winter trips slowing can vastly increase range. My consumption is normally 20kW/100km on motorway high speed driving but today was particularly cold with heavy rain. It's more a one to watch on extra bad days.

Tyre pressure drops when the temperature drops. You just need to top them up unless you have a puncture.

This ^^^^^ True for every car on the planet, not just the niro :) Cold air exerts less pressure than warm air... remember Boyle's Law from school physics lessons? Also, don't forget to check them again when the temperatures start to rise again.

Check tyre pressure in tyre menu. Minimum 36psi in all.when cold I think. If warm at garage set to 38.

Put up.a photo of warning lights. Specialist equipment is needed to diagnose errors.

does the app allow you to check the charging, stop and start charging, turn on the cabin heating?
does it have adaptive cruise control?

Can I drag up topic of tyres again? Didn't do my homework and got local tyre guy to fit 4 new budget tyres. No brand name. I was sliding around a lot this morning in slight frost and felt quite unsafe. False economies and all that. Hadn't appreciated just how heavy EVs are until this morning!

Should I just bite the bullet and buy 4 new proper Primacy 3 or something. Or is there any point in fitting Winter tyres now and putting the budget ones back on in Spring, so I get some wear out of them?

I live in the country and spend a lot of time on untreated roads. Do about 35k KMs a year.

I'm a big believer in all season tyres, especially if on untreated roads. I've got the Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen-3,

They handle snow/hail very well. Although for sheet ice/black ice there's not much tyres except studs can do.

I'm due a change with about 60k km on them.

I went with them Vs the cross climates as they were slightly cheaper and in reviews they were much the same.

Replace your front tyres and keep old tyres for back later. Or go back to tyre place and see if they will do a deal to take back front tyres and put something better on. Beware even branded tyres may not have great grip.

Put car in eco mode to reduce power to front wheels to reduce chances of putting too much power to wheels.
