I’ve nothing against Travellers, consider them my countrymen and genuinely like certain parts of the old culture being preserved, obvious exceptions being some of the sexism and aversion to education. However, it serves no use to anyone for RTÉ and some news outlets to continue to dance around using the most appropriate term to describe the people involved in the lunacy in Rathkeale.
The Irish Times have even given up on the cognitive dissonance, from their website today ’Gardaí carrying submachine guns and automatic pistols assisted unarmed colleagues at checkpoints in Rathkeale during the day amid rising tensions between feuding Traveller families.’

if people just stuck to calling out the travelers who do do bad things there wouldn't be a problem and there wouldn't be a situation where main stream media feel they need to keep such a detail quiet.

I'm sick to my bollicks of these bleeding hearts, the same types who said for the last month that the world cup being held in Quatar was a disgrace because of womens rights and LGBT rights and the general atrocities of what happens there. The same people will be out when an even worse country like Saudi gets an Olympics or world cup.

I have no idea what percentage of that community is involved in this criminality, but my heart goes out to the few Travellers men and women I know that hold down 9 to 5 jobs and who are appalled at the behavior of others and those Traveller women who do their best to keep house and home and their kids on the straight and narrow.
Nothing short of mandatory long prison sentences as well as a free hand to CAB, Revenue and DSP to investigate unaccounted for wealth.
The stuff in Rathkeale is going on for years. If they were doing it in a significant way there still would not be open showing of wealth by those who have never worked.

the aspects of traveler culture that are brootle as you say are illegal so have remedies available which are used where and when actually appropriate by the appropriate authorities who are underfunded and understaffed but yet still do what they can.

What are you going on about here? Of course there is heinous crimes committed across the whole of society and it is rightly condemned by all right thinking citizens.
However the problem here is that within a certain group of society their is a much higher proportion of crime commited as a percentage of that population.
Now I have to say that I find some of the remarks against travellers disturbing on this site.
But people who stick there heads in the sand and pretend their isn't a problem who try and compare to crimes in the settled community are being disingenuous and not actually helping anyone.
The Travelling community do have their own culture, unfortunately that culture means many are brought up differently than the settled community, young boys are brought up to be hard, and taught how to fight at an early age, and unfortunately crime is also a large part of their upbringing. These realities need to be recognised by those who try and deflect any criticism of the problems within the Travelling community.
Thats not to say that all travellers should be tarred with the same brush, ive lived next to travellers and never had any issues with them, however I have also had negative experiences with travellers in my past as well.
Many people will always have a negative opinion of the travelling community because of this, and those who try to pretend their isn't a problem will not change this fact.
