This video is interesting seeing the actual drone footage (not recent) and the 40mm launcher operator working together. Normally the drone footage is of artillery bombardment without seeing the operators.
Google MK-19. There's a Youtube video from the vendor. It's a grenade launcher, with a range of like 2km, and among other things can take out flying drones. TBF it's probably a lot like 'Duck Hunt' with a heavy-duty machine gun.
The newest versions with 40 mm airburst is really a nasty weapon if you are on the reciving end
Programmable grenade rounds, launched from a remote-controlled weapon. Controlled by antenna on the launcher.
Reminds me of the weapons they used to cover a tunnel in "Aliens."
Hopefully no rounding errors in the code :)
Terrifying. Can shoot behind things and around corners. If these show up, I doubt the RuZZian grunts with their Moisin-Nagants will have much chance.
I don't think so. If Putin wanted him gone, he could easily have him done away with.
Putin probably views Bakhmut and Wagner as a useful stop gap. Convicts are expendable politically, and if the operation goes tits up he can blame Wagner. This sideshow also buys him time to keep Ukrainian attention fixed on Bakhmut while he completes mobilization.
It was a surprise to the troops and commanders in WW1 as well, both sides were envisioning a war of manouver , (happened on the eastern front ),
Industrial capacity to produce arms and ammunition , to move food, men and equipment , to make barbed wire and defensive lines on a vast scale, and keep them there for years on end ,was not "the plan "
Mass artillery were to make assaults possible , and machine guns to allow defence ..
The development of tanks and their tactics and the use of "storm trooper" tactics were responses to this ,
Nobody would be safe in trenches either anymore
"The development of tanks and their tactics and the use of "storm trooper" tactics were responses to this"
Only after walking across no mans land into machine gun fire was given a good try.
That's what the video that gosip posted shows , using a multiple grenade launcher , as indirect fire , (so coming straight down), front 1.5 km/ 2 km out , being guided by a drone , and exploding in or above trenchs and dug outs ,
Obviously the ones the Ukrainians are currently using aren't airburst or programmable , but theyre already in service and they're cheap ...
The programmable air burst/proximity rounds will probably be anti drone weapon as well , to put a screen of shrapnel in front of a descending suicide drone ..
Thats for sure, even IFV will have it in the future,so nobody will be safe behind cover anymore, either used by 30/40 mm canon or grenade launcher.
its a different kind of warfare in the 20th century, thats for sure.
Even 155 mm artillery with proximity fuses you wont be safe in trenches.
Rheinmetalls ahead ammunition for their air defence 35 mm canons spreads out a wall of tungsten fragments as well to stop incoming drones and missiles.
And Biden has lifted the ban on oil drilling in Venezuela, with oil giant Chevron already given permission to resume production of petroleum or petroleum products, and to export crude oil. Not sure Putin will like more competition coming on the market (Nor Saudi et al)
Apparently Venezuelan crude is heavy sour , not the easiest to refine and the refinery's need to be set up for it ,
Most of the US shale oil is light sweet , and US refinery's have largely moved over to that - also Europe has a shortage of refineing capacity, which is keeping fuel prices high .. so what that'll mean for fuel prices in the near future, I've zero idea ..
I'd like to see that chart of oil prices and Russian offences over the years again.
Edit: Here's one that doesn't include the most recent Ukraine Invasion
NATO: Iran and the rest of the countries should not provide Russia with drones and other weapons
What do you suggest NATO should do ?
That man looks like he was knitted, not born
This is the mentality the Ukrainians are fighting.
Polish Deputy Prime Minister Gliński in Brussels: If Ukraine falls, a full-scale war will threaten other countries
You're twisting what I said.
Your original post said something to the effect of you'd hate to think that the Ukrainian public would be in Favour of similar attacks on Russian civilian infrastructure as was being inflicted on them by the Russians, what I'm saying is, I doubt very much that many Ukrainian civilians, considering what they've had inflicted on them by Russia, would care very much if their military inflicted similar damage to their infrastructure \ civilian population.
You go live without electricity, heat, running water and other basic human needs, see your father, son, brother, friends get killed in battle, or shot in the street by some subhuman Russian , maybe have your wife, daughter, sister or mother gang raped and tell me if you think you'd still be "Unhappy" or "Disappointed" in yourself if you felt the urge to inflict similar pain and suffering to those that inflicted it on you and yours,
I don't think you'd be very worried about your moral high ground in most of their positions.
My reference to Russia's enduring attachment to Stalinism was not about revisionism or looking back to past sacrifices, but to attachment ot repression, and terror, such as perpetrated on their own conscripts.
For an example I can direct you to the tragedy of the troubles in Northern Ireland. Here's an example from 2006 where the family of a UVF murder victim calls for no retaliation. Have you seen a Ukrainian family calling for tit for tat retaliation yet? Some on here seem sympathetic to the notion that Ukrainian families might call for similar retaliation to whats been done to them and then say they understand why these unfortunate families might want such a thing. I'll point to the history of what happened across the border as to why it might be a really bad suggestion.
Rubbish. For every example like this where families wished for no retaliation, there were dozens who wanted an eye for an eye. An endless round of tit for tat murders. That's human nature.
NATO Secretary General: We will strengthen Ukraine's air defenses and make sure all systems are working
Do you agree with tit for tat retaliation as a way forward here? Yes or no? And don't come out with the evasive "oh but I understand how they might want it" line.
I had a look back through the quoted threads here and this stems from Gatling's post saying there should be a full retaliation against Russia.
Full retaliation against an invading force in this case is primarily motivated to get the force out of your country. It is not 'tit for tat'.
If Russia were expelled from Ukraine and then Ukraine decided to invade Russia to start committing the same war crimes, well that's a little bit more tit for tat.
US M777 155 mm artillery makes a difference in Ukraine
Satellite photos shows Russian defences and fortifications in Crimea
Another good update from Professor Clarke
Full retaliation (if he means in a military sense) against an invading force is fine with me. Stuff with starting with "I understand why they might...." is not. It's the "I'm not a racist, but" type of argument.
NATO Secretary General: We are not part of the war, but we will continue to provide assistance to Ukraine
And Mr Stoltenberg is right to continue with this strategy IMO.
