I think the worst ever was the Donegal TV Deflector guy in 1997, the only time he spoke in the Dail was to come out with incoherent sentences attacking MMDS
Mod note
Be careful of making libelous statements about named individuals
You are very mistaken and just seem to share the opinion of lots of modern Irish cosmopolitan urbanites when you claim the Healy Raes haven't much of an IQ.
They are incredibly smart operators and not just some cute hoors.
Also never assume that someone is thick because of how they sound.
Now Danny might be the weak link, but the others are smart. They wouldn't have gotten where they are if they weren't.
For instance everyone laughed at them debating about the drink drive limit, but they had a point about why was it necessary to drop from 80 to 50.
When Michael asked the NRA, Shane Ross and Dept of transport officials at a Dail committe to show the stats on how many accidents and deaths were caused by drivers with readings between 50 and 80 he left them all looking like idiots who had nothing to back up their proposal.
In other words he blew the whole lot out of the water and made their argument baseless.
Don't worry, I wouldn't hold it against you. I am from Dublin and we have his twin sister in Clare Daly.
Isn't there rumours they were ridin
Mary Mitchell O'Connor was absolutely useless. She essentially lost her seat to her FG running mate, who had a very low profile.
All she ever talked about was women's issues and that was when she was allowed to speak in public. She was generally kept in the background and told not to say stupid stuff.
At least she talked about something and had an agenda she made people aware of.
Some of the parish pump crowd literally have absolutely zero manifesto or ethos and have no intention of ever tackling national issues or taking a serious ministry
Eamon O'Cuiv
Any thats named Healy Rae.
Totally agree. The joint leader of "Rent a Mob"
I would agree with this, amazingly there was some surprise in the party when she was not re-elected in DLR of all places.
They ain't useless. They are some of the smoothest operators in the Dail. Some of the richest too.
Gbshtes yes but they know what they are doing
They absolutely are cute hoors, it doesn't make them thick or anything (although Danny is clearly missing a few brain cells)
Everything they shout and roar about in the Dail is for brand Healy-Rae which might happen to benefit Kerry the odd time. They don't give two hoots about national interests which is what they're supposed to be elected for.
It makes them bad politicians, 100% - smart or not. Are they the worst? They're up there but they've a lot of competition tbf, Marion Harkin is another one of those from up my area. Doing **** all for years either locally or nationally but somehow has a very large support base.
You have Wallace the tax cheat and Putin apologist, Lowry the crook, Paul Murphy who trapped a woman in her car roaring abuse at her - Independents are the biggest shower of gangsters of them all!
Oliver J Flanagan anti Semite Hitler admiring scum a permanent blight on our state and people that he was ever a public representative a literal Nazi FFS.
Was she the lady that drove her car onto the Plinth infront of Leinster house on her first day?
Terence Flanagan FG. Thick as mince, trust me. No time for Coppinger or Regina Doherty either.
I never said otherwise. I'm not sticking up for Bertie or Charlie. The only point I'm making is history is written decades later when the emotion is removed. They then look at the facts. Dev was the hero & Collins the traitor up to only a few decades ago. It's only when historians started writing about it we found out otherwise. I just wouldn't write off Charlie & Bertie just yet as far as their legacy is concerned
I'm not aliened to any party. I have come to the conclusion that all parties are dishonest & possibly corrupt. I find it shocking that we are talking about who is less corrupt then the other. It shows how adjusted we have become to corrupt TDs from all parties. I've voted every chance I had in elections, local election & referendums over the last 35 years or so. I'm now faced with voting SF in the next election of not voting at all. I'm not sure I can bring myself to vote SF though.
Yeah seemingly the real reason is they want to de select her because she's hopeless and she reckons the only way for her to survive is to go Indo and get back in like Carol Nolan.
Dev was never the hero and Collins the traitor in the eyes of historians or anyone except anti-treaty families that's absolute lies.
Also we are 30 years removed from Charlie and he is probably the most written about and studied post war generation politician Ireland has had.
The history on him has been well written and it says in big neon letters CROOK.
Garret the goods father wore the Blueshirt into Leinster House FFS.
You are only forced to correct the Dial record when you deliberately mislead or lie. Any genuine mistakes a TD is happy to take back themselves without being forced into it by the opposition. I don't see any difference in lying to the Dial & the population or lining your own pockets. Dishonesty isn't acceptable in any shape of form in Irish politics imo
She's gone years too early for that to work - she might have got some sympathy vote if the election was soon, but now she'll actually have to try work to keep the seat.
With Bertie and the troubles, it is difficult to know how much he contributed and how much would have happened with any other leader really. What he was directly responsible for was the economic mismanagement during the bubble, ultimately resulting in us having to get the IMF in. I don't buy the narrative that the financial crisis was completely out of our control. It affected all countries true, but the fact is we were one of the worst affected world wide. The financial crisis was really just the event that tipped the whole jenga tower over in Ireland, it was however already wobbling. The most frustrating thing is that if we had have managed the real economic miracle in the 90's well, we would be in great shape now.
How come you don't seem so keen to wait for history to judge Kenny 🤔
Not aware of this, when was it? I would definitely not vote for him anyway. Is he running in the next election?
Gosh Marion Harkin has kept a very low profile since being reelected to the Dail in 2020, not a peep from her all during lockdown etc
With Bertie & the troubles you could look at what Clinton, Blair & the late Mo Mowlam have said about him & his importance to the process. They were all in the room with him. There was absolutely no move forward while Bruton was leader. This shows that not just anyone would have gotten the same result
Well, I am not aware of what they have said about him. But I suppose my view of him is mainly colored by the mismanagement during the bubble. For me, that has affected my life more than the issues in NI. For everyone else, I suppose they can weigh up whether they think overall his contribution was good or bad. Similar to Blair I suppose, he rebranded Labour and made them electable again. He also invaded Iraq on spurious claims of WMD, leading to the deaths of between 500k and 1m people depending on the estimates.
History might well be kind to Kenny. I never said otherwise. That doesn't change his dishonesty though. The joke at the time was "how do you know when Kenny is lying? His lips are moving" 😋
Indeed. That was the level of competence
That's a very fair point. Genuinely my heart goes out to the victims of the crash. I don't mean to belittle the terrible times some people suffered.
Michael Woods was a good local TD. Unremarkable in the Dial despite holding several ministerial posts. Forever remembered as the one to sign off on the Catholic Church redress scheme.
