You obviously didn't factor on putin ,he's been publicly Saying he wants to redraw Russias borders ,
Everything he has said he would do he is already doing,

I support the Ukranian people, and it looks like they will have to resort to guerrila tactics in Ukraine (and good luck to them), but my post is related to pie in the sky solutions that involve sending units to Moscow. The Russians would crush them, and any innocent Ukranian in Moscow too.....if they could even get there in the first place.

They had a battalion of 300 who took on 50 American Green Berets and Seals in Syria in 2018, the 50 Americans annihilated them and left over 200 of them dead in the space of a 4 hour fight. iirc the Americans suffered no casualties and only had one man injured
It's a bit different though, the UK wanted to keep things normal as much as possible so the aims were to disrupt as much as possible. That's barely an option for the Ukrainians, the Russians would happily let them keep fighting and keep the whole country in the ****.

I would say anyone tough in Putin's govt would have even the tiniest bit of control over him and would tell him that this is a bad idea.

I would say the head of Russian secret security SHOULD be a very tough person. But that might mean he would challenge your opinions at times. And therefore someone like Putin might like to surround yourself with weak people.
I think that is what has happened here.
