Try the N95's. They've come right down in price if you buy in bulk and do a super job. I noticed a lot more people wearing them in a recent business trip to Spain compared to the cloth ones here.
Where is the best place to buy N95s online ?
N95s are very difficult and uncomfortable to breathe through when worn properly, especially if worn for any significant amount of time.
I can't understand why anyone would want a child to wear one of those. We've lost the plot completely. "Oh, it's not right to make it mandatory for Karen from Facebook to get vaccinated, but in order to protect Karen, let's weld an N95 onto every child in this cuntry (typo intended) from 3rd class up."
I get ours through work boxes of 100 so it works out super cheap. You could try something like this on Amazon as it works out a lot better than getting them here in Ireland i'd say.
Actually it would be difficult . Only speaking for my own family and friends and my own area . A lot of children are minded after school by grandparents , cutting those links would make it difficult for many parents to work
Out of my 5 siblings 4 of us pick kids up from school , out of my 6 good friends 5 of us mind grandchildren . I realise that is only a snap shot of my life but it’s replicated all over the country
Forget about protecting grannies and kids for a minute. Public policy is neither made nor influenced by punters being overly dramatic on the internet. Nobody on NPHET is checking out forums or comments sections.
The sole thing driving decisions is case numbers and, more importantly, their impact on hospital admissions and ICU admissions. If the latter gets too high, they have to take the least disruptive steps possible to slow (not halt) transmission.
Just on this - NPHET run surveys tracking how worried people are, while the government had employed an agency to follow online commentary around Covid.
Neither implies it affects their decision making.
You can force businesses to close, to make people stay with in 2 KM of home. People to spend 14 days in a hotel.. but because of GDPR you can't tell parents if there is case in their child's class! The same politicians and NPHET will be out telling us that the vaccine is safe for under 12s and will wonder why a lot of people won't believe them (i'm still on that fence by the way)
They're spending a lot of money on it though, Teneo and Kinzen aren't cheap.
if its really life and death like many claim , ways will be found to divorce primary school kids from old people
then that means we are masking kids to paper over the fact that the government is incapable of providing a proper health service , not all of us are content to carry water for the government on this one
I actually find the "vertical fold" style N95s I use now more comfortable over long periods than the cloth face coverings or surgical masks.
What qualifications have you on epidemic control procedures to come up with a post like that.
I listened to an interview with a doctor a few weeks ago who was talking about obesity rates and how they put so much pressure on the hospital system in Ireland. I don’t know if this will s having an effect on our hospital/ICU numbers for Covid but if it is I’d like to see us do more to tackle it.

its my opinion with regards how many people ( not scientists or medics ) have responded to this whole thing
We've got the opposite. My Mum has 3 jabs and I can count on one hand the amount of times she has seen my children since the summer. We were hoping some normality was beginning to return as she had offered to mind the kids for us on Saturday night. She changed her mind yesterday because "her [youngest child, age 10] age are superspreaders" and "if I mind them she might want me to sit beside her and read her a story". This is a woman who was a highly involved grandparent, looked after them one a week (her choice rather than because we needed the childcare), and would regularly have them overnight for a few days at a time. She's completely terrified - and it's the kids she is specifically terrified of, as she's quite happy to go out and meet her friends for coffee.
Aah ok mistook you for someone who had a qualification in pandemic medicine and were qualified to voice an opinion.
Me ,I’ll take my advice from those qualified to speak on the subject and ignore grunts tossing ‘chaff’ out the window.
I do feel a bit safer that way.
I don't know how you infer that. There's plenty of European countries struggling with hospitalisation numbers. They can't all have crap health services. We are not unusual.
Yep, the time has come to close the universities, cancel all academic research and rely on the grunts and their school of Google 'research'.
Agree Croc, we both must be a bit strange insofar we would respect the advice of a well qualified person rather than say, some grunt sitting in his kex on the floor before going in on the late shift in Apache Pizza.
Strange times……
Norma Foley said children who don't wear masks will be sent home from school but, in reality, the Department doesn't have the power to do that. In reality, boards of management will decide whether to instruct principals to enforce the mask rule or give principals discretion over whether it'll be enforced.
I think thats so sad but understandable - thats the message that is communicated in the media to older people ( to avoid their grandchildren ). You just have to run with what she wants to do.
I take it she doesnt want to spend Christmas with the grandchildren either. Its heartbreaking that alot of grandparents may spend Christmas alone again this year because they are afraid of getting covid from the kids. It make no sense though that she is happy to go to a coffee shop - the risk of getting covid from someone in a coffee shop is higher in my opinion than from kids but I guess its good that she has some social outlet.
I think you may have misunderstood me. Kids should not be required to wear masks, school or no school.
At this point, given our vaccination levels, anyone who is still afraid, nervous or uncomfortable mixing with others should be restricting their movements/ staying home/whatever they need to do to feel safe. Trying to force everyone to feel the same level of risk or concern they do is NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN - the primary reason being that CV-19 is of little to no risk to the vast majority of people.
I beg your pardon , my mistake
Norma Foley is just one of many TDs who haven't a notion about their brief, let alone the legalities of what they spout on the radio.
why bother with the fore play earlier ?
just come out right out and deliver the pre planned insult
they are miles behind us in terms of vaccination rates
What provision in law makes facemasks mandatory for 9-11 year olds? Is it just a recommendation at this stage?
Not saying anything at all original here but I'm just disgusted by how this has been handled, the messaging is truly appalling.
Mainly though I'm infuriated by the narrative of getting these young kids to mask up to protect their grandparents/older people, precisely because it is incredibly damaging to present the idea to children that they would be in some way responsible for spreading covid to family members. It's just so dangerous and as many people have said, if we're introducing masks for children at this stage, when will this all fcuking end?
