This measure will apply for a minimum period of two weeks, and kept under review with a view to removal as soon as possible thereafter taking account of the overall epidemiological situation.
I mean there are more put out by travel restrictions and lockdowns than there are who'll die from covid, so who's selfish there.
Due back in dublin at 1140pm on Thursday evening from canaries. What if flight is late/delayed or, god forbid cancelled?
Youll be grand, airline is checking and you are due in before midnight.
We all know they won't remove it after two weeks.
You get the test that is most convienent for you
So Ireland follows Portugal: https://www.euronews.com/amp/2021/11/29/portugal-has-re-imposed-covid-19-travel-restrictions-could-other-eu-nations-do-the-same
Two countries which economies depend heavily on EU freedom of movement basically erode the idea of EU covid cert. Very thoughtful!
Yeah it's an awful move by the government here and basically sends out the message that Ireland is unreliable when it comes to travel and when it comes to sticking by the Covid cert regulations. We know next to nothing about Omicron but the brains in cabinet are panicking. What a disastrous bunch we have leading us - not a calm or authoritative head between them and they are completely enthralled to Tony Holohan and whatever he wants.
Interesting perspective
Some of the private companies offer at home tests that are certified for travel but the reports today are saying it has to be a lab administered test? Is this just baldy worded way of saying it can't be an aldi test or do they really mean it has to be done by someone?
I was planning to book one of the Qured antigen tests which is self administered (photo sent to them of test result to get fit to fly cert I think) but apparently is accepted as fit to fly, will I be ok with this or will it be necessary to pay twice the price for an in person test?
going to UK next Wednesday morning, back Thursday evening. With all the new restrictions about testing to get back into Ireland, trip is in a bit of disarray at the moment. I’m currently isolating after a positive test but I’m out of isolation in a few days. What if I show a positive test on antigen/pcr despite being asymptotic and no longer contagious?
Just seen a comment on Twitter, I assume incorrect information, but it gave me a startle …. PCR/Antigen test for returning to Ireland must be done in the country where your homeward bound flight departs from .( like pre travel cert days)
Any thoughts on that ? Can’t see anywhere else which confirms this .
Thanks
You'd let it rip and let a lot of people die before their time? To hell with it like ?
Most people aren't that way inclined thankfully
I mean I'll take my booster to protect myself and others And take the travel ease that will return with it,no issue's there
Its free
No self administered test is valid is how I read todays announcement
Yeah that’s the case alright . Off we all go to the chemists/ testing facilities to be fleeced .
Yeah that seems to the case. So much for the workaround of getting one before you go. The government press release says it must be provided by an established operator in the relevant country you're coming from.
Any link/source to this?
Traveling on Sunday in and out to UK and have already booked test in Dublin.
gov.ie - Post Cabinet Statement - 30 November 2021 (www.gov.ie)
In the case of antigen testing, the test cannot be self-administered. It must be taken and certified by an established operator in the relevant country.
That’s the loophole closed then for the quick 2 day trip to London
Not to pick holes in your comment, more the press release but does the relevant country really mean it has to be done in the country where your homeward bound flight departs from?
It's not very clear as per usual.
Yeah that would be my reading. Otherwise why bother mentioning it at all?
Don;t think you should go. It can take 3 or 4 weeks to pass a PCR test after infection, I went through that in the summer. Antigen tests show clear much earlier but PCR catches much smaller traces for weeks.
I mean there comes a point where you can't keep curtailing lives in order to protect people who have lived their life. How is that fair? Every death is a tragedy and all, but a life not lived is also a tragedy.
Speaking this afternoon, Housing Minister Darragh O’Brien said Dublin Airport would be “well able to handle” the additional checks that would be required.
He also said that people going on short breaks abroad would be able to use a negative test taken in Ireland on their return if it was still within the testing period.

Are you joking me? Ireland already HAS one of the best vaccination rates on the planet. There is absolutely no evidence to date that suggests the new variant is vaccine evasive or more severe than the previous strains. Only suggestive evidence, with very little data, that it might be more transmissable.
There will ALWAYS be new variants - ALWAYS - for the rest of time. You seem to be of the thinking that we should continue indefinitely shutting down the country/travel/social activity, to "buy time" and continue developing new vaccines all the time "just in case". That is ludicrous thinking.
"There is no other way out of this?" - now where have we heard that before?
Why do you think that covid will be banished once the whole world in vaccinated? The vaccines are not effective at stopping transmission. The evidence of that in Ireland alone, is undeniable.
The vaccine quite clearly is NOT the way out if this is going to be the carry-on every time there is a new variant.
This is a ridiculous over the top reaction and anyone supporting it needs their head examined.
Apparently you are correct and I was mistaken saying PCR - however it's not home antigen, it has to be done by a health professional. Slightly less cost, same inconvenience, same ridiculous thinking.
It would mean doing it coming through the airport?
Are there walk in clinics or do you have to book I wonder?
This should help.
"It must be taken and certified by an established operator in the relevant country."
Relevant country just means the lab has to be certified in the country you get the test from. I.e you can't just get a doctor to do it or any medical professional, the lab has to be accredited which most if not all that offer tests have to be.
This variant is the greek Alphabet O
I'm assuming, there have been 9 relatively harmless variants since Delta so
If you think governments aren't going to put circuit break measures on travel until there is a better way to slow potentially more contagious variants from international spread, you've another thing coming
I don't know when this is going to end
Maybe when science defeats it
Maybe when there's enough ICU capacity to cope with surges of it
Post vaccine roll out? Yes of course it should be let run it's course.
Ffs what is the point of any of the last two years efforts if that's not going to be the case?
