This thread was full of constitutional lawyers a few months back, where are they when we need them, has the fine been extended or not????

  • Registered Users Posts: 115 ✭✭naufragos123

Why did they only renew it until 7th July instead of the 19th July? It suggests to me that they won't extend again just for 12 days

They most certainly will if it's the case that it has been extended. They extended for about a week up to May 10th when everybody was certain it would be allowed to expire in line with the lifting of inter county travel. But along comes Donnelly at the last minute on May 10th to extend to June 2nd.

So literally anything is possible from these people.

No, not in the Amendment act that has been posted.

    Yes it has been extended.

"Regulation 1 of the Principal Regulations is amended, in paragraph (2),
by the substitution of “5th day of July 2021” for “2nd day of June 2021”."

yep he's extended the travel fine

Better cancel that early morning flight to Barcalona so :pac:

Anything to be said for another complaint to the EC, since not only is the fine disproportionate under the EC's previous ruling (since the 20km limit is gone) but will also be in place after the commencement of the digital Covid cert directive on 1st July.

Did anyone hear back from the EC?

Those scumbags have started sealing off parts of Dublin City in preparation for this weekends "Outdoor Summer".

    The bandstand is already gone;https://twitter.com/Caolanmcaree/status/1400085217096962051?s=20

What a horrible country to live in. Just ****ing grim.

He does, I have met him at the airport many times. He's normally very nice but if you tell him you are going on Holidays you get a fine.

It seems the fine has been extended until Juy 5th

Watch out for your destination country banning the UK due to the Indian variant. That's the case for me right now :(

I have to admit to being very disappointed with the EU. They were all over us after the financial crash, came down really hard on us. Many at the time saw them as dictators taking over our sovereignty. But I guess that was all about money.

Now that it has nothing to do with money they don't appear to give a damn. Enough people complained, there were a few high profile people like the French ambassador calling Ireland out. And despite Justice Commissioner Didier Reynders claiming credit for getting EU countries off the MHQ list, I think they would have come off in time and were on far too long anyway. Fair enough the EU pretty much got the travel cert off the ground, but in Ireland's case did SFA really. And that's disappointing, especially given that this fine is a blatant violation of freedom of movement and massively discriminates against all EU nationals unfortunate enough to reside in Ireland.

I was at the airport again yesterday.
Gardai on approach to the airport just waving people through (tell them your collecting someone- they prompted me to give them a reason they would accept).
Inside, Niner and his mates were at T1 security but T2 and on express security there was no -one checking.

Honestly I know this fine is scaring people but in reality there is nothing stopping anyone going. At this stage the fine is clearly a breach of Rights anyway and if escalated to the EJC this would be thrown out and abolished.

I'm really worried now that my flight form Cork will get cancelled. It's all very well saying go from Belfast but we live at the opposite end of the country and my partner suffers chronic pain and couldn't take such a long journey. We have treatment booked for him in Spain which should dodge us the fine.

The flight is less than two weeks away and Cork flights are showing scheduled. Has anyone had experience of last minute Ryanair cancellations recently?

Folks this has the potential to be a really useful thread but having to wade through the moaning and back-biting is painful. Any chance we can keep it to questions, facts and official updates?

I agree with all of the above.

I would also add in though that an element of dreamers should be allowed :) I think about 95% of the people on this forum want to travel asap.

There is a specific separate forum for those that wish to restrict travel.

The amendment is to the operative date reg 1 of SI 217 and so generally applies to the port/airport and other restrictions contained herein. I have given up waiting and I am posting this from a Ryanair flight to Faro from Belfast. Going out for the minimum time possible (until Sunday), am fully vaccinated and will not be socialising while I am there. (I am going to be posing off some many Poetugueisers do to lack of building progress that I’ll probably have a hit out on me). I will isolate on return as required.

The EU has given Norway a slap on the wrist for their travel restrictions. They had/have much more stringent entry restrictions than Ireland though.

How did you get on in Belfast, I am booked to go 28th June to Faro via Dublin, but really thinking of switching to Belfast now.

Meant to fly to the US 7th July, anyone any idea if the US will open to Ireland by then?

It seems unlikely, according to the latest report I can find: https://www.reuters.com/world/us/us-weighs-changes-covid-19-travel-restrictions-2021-05-20/

Has anyone else posted the new government press release on travel? https://www.gov.ie/en/campaigns/75d92-covid-19-travel-advice/
    (Link at top of page.)

Apologies if it has already been discussed.

Rumours as of this week are its about to open to the UK. The travel ban on Irish people entering lumps us in with the UK rather than the EU (because we're not in Schengen, but do have the Common Travel Area with the UK). So we should also be included hopefully:
There are reports that a bilateral agreement has been worked out between the U.S. and the U.K. to reopen travel between the two countries.

If confirmed, this news would allow British people entry to the U.S. with just a negative Covid-19 test result, taken no more than 72 hours before travel. For entry into the U.K. travelers would need the same and also to take a test within two days of arriving into the country–the same as other current green list countries.

    https://www.forbes.com/sites/alexledsom/2021/06/01/usuk-travel-reports-of-travel-bubbles-opening-soon/?sh=1d0c9762edc1

The key dates to watch seem to be the UK's next review of their green list on June 7th, and/or the G7 summit where Biden is in the UK himself - Jun 11th-13th.

A few friends over here in Canada are booking flights home for end of summer and Christmas. Seems so long ago that I was even able to consider doing this.

The light gets brighter, I just have to wait a bit longer to know for sure.

Will people from the UK ever get back into the motherland without having to snake it across the border?
I want to go home end of July but I'll only be jabbed one.

Do we know if 1 dose of vaccine is acceptable for the cert?

Do we know if 1 dose of vaccine is acceptable for the cert?

I understood it would be full vaccination - 14 days before travel

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,015 ✭✭✭Ray Donovan

Do we know if 1 dose of vaccine is acceptable for the cert?

    In 2 scenarios yes:

    1) you are getting the one shot vaccine.

    2) you have had a COVID infection in the previous 180 days.

I have flights booked for the night of the 5th of July. I wonder would they fine us in the last hours? These are Ryanair flights that I changed 3 times since March 2020. I think I just lose the money if I try to change them again. I don't even want a refund. I want to live in a country that has viable airlines and support them.....unlike the government. And I want t be part of the EU............not some outstation dictatorship. (Sorry, Siochain for the moaning).
