A spokesperson said no vaccine was wasted - good! There will be stories like this as they wrestle with getting the system right and it should work more smoothly when we get to the age groups.

Well they probably have given the brain blood clots issue. Do you know how peer review works?
You seem to think the Irish scientific community are a pack of spud munching Paddies is it? The Executive Director of EMA is an Irish woman. There AZ research was headed by an Irish man. I don't for 1 second think we couldn't have our academics involved in the research and associated peer review.

Just a guess as someone who will be landbridging to France from the UK on the 2nd of July.
By then, the UK will have had high percentage of their adult population vaccinated with 1 dose and their case numbers will be negligible.
Historically, they are quite pro vax and will have no trouble reaching herd immunity.

The French on the other hand will be in a somewhat worse position than the UK due to lower supply and a more vaccine hesitant population,
So the French won't be able to make life difficult for the UK on the basis of Covid cases, but may do so on the basis of Brexit.
The UK may make life difficult for people returning from France and other EU countries on the basis of both Covid and Brexit.

As an Irish passport holder, I don't expect much difficulty in either direction, apart from probably a longer time waiting in the non-UK cars lane at the BorderForce checkpoint in Calais.

Nobody is questioning all Irish scientists

People are talking about a specific few whose opinions run contrary to what we're hearing elsewhere and don't appear to be shifting when new evidence is presented, which we'd expect.

Probably because they've been holding more AZ back on account of the erratic supplies. 125K will take in a very big chunk of Group 4.

It will take many more weeks to identify cohort 4, maybe months. Why not do them in parallel with the next cohorts?

Stupid decision imo that will slow everyone else down while we wait for the inevitably gigantic cohort 4 list to be identified.

This isn't due in until the summer, would be surprised if we weren't in it as its for all of Europe.

Also on the additional countries onto the list that looks to have hit a few snags but probably for another thread but no it's not permanent.

-Will be opportunity to reschedule vaccination appointment

-600K J&J expected for Q2

Sounds very positive. Martin suggested the portal wouldn't be ready till week 3/4 though (and being an IT project there will likely be delays). Wonder what happens if they're ready with the vaccines for the 65-69 year olds before the portal is ready.

Getting as many as possible vaccinated is hugely important. To do that you have to make it relatively convenient. Offering people no choice of location is going to make for difficulty and inconvenience for some people. This will surely lead to a lower % being vaccinated.

This, in addition to the HSE's double-booking of its own staff does not inspire confidence. And the overall information system necessary to track vaccinations for eventual booster shots could be a real nightmare, given the HSE's stunning record in IT.

In IT system is only as good as the information put into it. It's possibly more of an issue with some administration screw up that's caused double bookings. However, it needs to be followed up and figured out.

We would be aiming towards zero screw ups on this.
