The planned delivery schedule is just what AZ promised to deliver. Just getting steady deliverys would be a win at this stage.

I think they are negotiating the UK's share or deciding whether to block the export. If it's shared pro rata the UK will walk away with about 13% of the 16m.

Doesn't seem to be many of cohort 4 done so far this week. Hopefully that will increase if they use the MVC's over the weekend.

I don't think any of the 16m doses in Italy are for the UK. There is no need for any supply for them to be sitting there as they have received doses from Halix already.

The negotiations seem to be in relation to further production from Halix, EU say it is all for them but the UK want a share.

Just to clarify, is that 40% of over 70's not in long term residential care?

My sister got her vaccination this morning, she is in category 4, I thought I was in the same category as her but I've a feeling I might be high risk rather than extreme high risk so maybe category 7. The only thing that will change that for me is that I had a blood test a few weeks ago to test for Alpha-1 apparently this is hereditary in my family. I have to submit another blood test at a hospital before final diagnosis, but hopefully I'll get my vaccination soon.

Update regarding parents vaccines. Went ahead yesterday no problem and no side effects reported.

Think it would be a good idea to have regular testing at airports when travel resumes, presuming it's not too intrusive or time consuming.

It's not a sanction though is it? It's only going to upset people who were booked into the Beacon, and give them more anxious days. I wouldn't say the CEO of the Beacon gives a fiddler's fcuk either way.

best day for total number of shots ( 1st and 2nd) so far :
5 March with 19,449 followed by
4 March with 19228

but closely in the rear 23 March with 18999

The rest of march - so far - a bit better than february - 260,000 vs 209,000 odd but we knew this .

Lets see what the next few days brings and then around the 10th April the numbers should start to really tend upwards.

NY Times here on why Biden needs to make decisions on surplus vaccines very soon ...

- US supply of coronavirus vaccine to outstrip U.S. demand by mid-May if not sooner. Decision needed well in advance of this.
- Biden may hold on to some vaccines for the children vaccine programme and for boosters if needed.
- Decisions need to be made very soon because the manufacturing process can take up to 10 weeks, and changes for a foreign market need time. If their destination is unclear, either the production line must pause or vials directed for overseas may need to be relabeled.
- One option is canceling or reducing some orders from Moderna and Pfizer in return for the promise of a fresh supply this fall for boosters.
- One other option is to ship the frozen J&J vaccine that will be manufactured in Merck’s plant overseas, where it can be bottled much more cheaply.

Maybe the EU will get supply sooner than expected via the US.

Are all the healthcare workers not done now? I saw there were 88 cases for HCWs this week - is this inevitable even if everyone is vaccinated as it' only 90% effective? Still seems a lot imo

We have to accept there are going to be cases. Vaccines will prevent hospitalisation and death which is the ultimate goal.

People need to get that into their heads

You have to forgive people for an obsession with case numbers, when RTE have been hammering it down our throats for the last 12 months. Should start to see a slow shift in the narrative now though

The number of deaths, in hospital and ICU are the three figures to watch. The number of positives is not going to shift down ant time soon, but may not matter that much once the higher risk groups are vaccinated, even once.

Remember the AZ vaccine is around 75% effective at preventing COVID cases but basically 100% effective at preventing serious illness or death. So those healthcare worker cases should be mild.

There are suggestions in the media that Ireland might receive as many as 200,000 AZ doses in the next two weeks alone. This would be a massive ramping up of vaccinations and very welcome.

Problem seems it was going to run and run. Then it would be the Govn't owning it, even though they hadn't anything largely to do with what happened.
Donnelly's first instinct was to ride it out but it had to be lanced. Simply locate another venue and pay the extra cost, move on.

There has to be consequences to people corruptly abusing their position to use favouritism as a basis in how vaccines are rolled out otherwise we will see a lot more of it. If the Beacon wont act (and they should have) the Minister has to.
