91 year old grandmother got her 2nd dose this afternoon. It was a great relief when she got the first dose but the 2nd dose just feels like a massive weight lifted off the families shoulders that she didn't pick up covid and was able to see it through to vacination

70-75k target seems low for next week considering there's all this weeks AZ to go through. Isn't there like 80k or so of those waiting to be rolled out.

HSE Briefing:

-Estimate of 240,000 in Cohort 2 HCW (first time I've seen a number quoted for this group). Include HSE, public, private, home care etc, part time etc.
-10,931 vaccinators have completed training
-Up to 38 vaccination clinics will be available
-13 centres have been used to date
-Expect more use of these in April for remaining Cohorts (e.g. 65-69)
-Larger sites will have 60 booths -> 600 people per hour
-A period of days before AZ dosing resumes assuming OK from EMA/NIAC
-Expect Moderna to reach order by end of Q1
-J&J timeline still to be finalised for Q2

Any news on housebound individuals, I have heard several reports of those well over 85 years old not having gotten their first dose while younger and more mobile elderly have gotten their 2nd dose or will do so shortly. Obviously the various AZ debacles won't help here.

The spin from Colm Henry and others all along has been that "nobody will be left behind". I suppose in HSE land, a big delay in getting people vaccinated = not leaving them behind.

It would be interesting to see how the rollout to housebound people was planned once it became apparent (months ago) that there were logistical difficulties with the Pfizer vaccine which was also the first one approved. Could it have been handled better e.g. could there have been arrangements in place to get them to vaccination centres where they could get the Pfizer vaccine rather than assuming that they'd be able to get the AZ vaccine delivered to them.

That is very poor. So they don't even know how many housebound there are and of those they have identified, they've vaccinated <15% of them. And that was before the latest AZ fiasco.

I have a family friend who is super morbidly obese. He's immobile - he won't be able to travel to get his vaccine when it happens. I'm assuming he'll be next (Cork Southside). Will be good to hear he's being vaccinated soon, because he genuinely wouldn't survive COVID.

I know this won't be what you want to hear.

But they are low risk as they are at home and not going out. If a health care person visits they will have PPE and a vaccine. No one else should be visiting them. If you are in a support bubble I would keep my contact to a minimum like you should have been doing.

It's going to take time to get those stuck at home done but there is no need to rush getting them done asap. They are fairly safe at home.

My brother in the UK is 46 years old (healthy and no underlying issues) was contacted this morning for his first vaccine, he'll get it this Sunday.

Yeah, clearly the US are prioritising their neighbours.

The positive is this creates precedent that you help your neighbours when you have surplus doses. Hopefully this increases the chances that the UK will help Ireland when they have surplus vaccines.

Also, the US have helped Asian countries (with money for manufacture) and now have helped the US and Canada. Biden has said that he will help all ally countries, so perhaps the EU are next on the list. Biden could easily help the EU by lifting the export ban.
