Let's leave loads of AstraZeneca vaccines sitting around just so 59 year olds with cancer and other severe illnesses don't get vaccinated ahead of an older person. If they contract Covid in the interim and die, well that's too bad. At least they won't have been vaccinated before an 80 year old waiting for an mRNA vaccine to be delivered into the country.

Those AZ numbers are terrible. In February they weren't even able to deliver 50% of what they announced a few weeks ago. Hard to see them getting anywhere near their target for the quarter - I suspect that the extra 9 million doses were doses intended for early April and were brought forward in an attempt to appease the public.

my mother who is 81 is due to be vaccinated on Saturday week at merlin park in galway, my dad who has had cancer is not 80 until the second week in april. Their GP is saying my dad will have to wait a bit longer... Will he have to wait or is there anyway he could get vaccinated on the same ?

Issue with GPs according to Donnelly is 65 practises with under 200 eligible paitents who couldn't buddy up with other practices.
They're being contacted today and tomorrow to arrange deliveries for next week

Agreed, until things are shown to improve at this point in time id only be projecting 900k for Q2 at best rather than the 1.8m they originally promised and recommitted to.

Is there any encouraging data from The UK regarding serious illness and death? With them being further along their vaccination programme I would assume there is a noticeable downward trend with most vulnerable folks sorted?

What you believe is also down to who you want to believe. Social media is notoriously unreliable and many a media story has stretched information to claim a problem is widespread. We've had many sources of outrage during this and vaccines are just one more. They're a good ongoing target as supply issues can almost be guaranteed to throw plans out for the next month at least.

Or i believe the GP that I go to. That he got none of his shipment last week, either did any GP in our area.

Good thing we've about 800k from them in Q2 in the forecasts so, roughly a 60% cut was already factored in

The HSE knows there are numerous small practices around Ireland and housebound patients

The plans in place haven't worked

I suppose the important thing is if lessons are learnt and that the same mistakes won't be made in 80-84 years olds or any other age group down to 70

The same issues should not crop up in the future

Bloody Dublin first as usual forget about the country folk.....oh wait.
I am sure there's people over 85 in Donegal still waiting too.

I'd say some GPs when they saw the opportunity and without clear reprimand ordered as much as possible.

65 small practices according to HSE with a total over 85 population of 800 are proving difficult.

20-25 practices impacted impacted by supply issues this week be it no supply or less supply than expected and these are currently being worked through for delivery in the coming days.

NAS now involved in the house bound vaccinations for all over 70s so that is being dealt with.

Vast majority of over 85s completed this week bar some of the above mentioned. It's pretty much on schedule they say.

To be fair to them the issues seem to be getting ironed out

Its funny how people believe an organisation that has a history of hiding the truth and performing below par!!!

If you watch the press conference now, they're going through the issues and openly discussing where the issues have been and what is being done to address them.

There seems to be a good few practices who despite being told to buddy up because they don't have more than 200 patients over the age of 70 didn't and still summited orders knowing they weren't going to be fulfilled and have been told to join up with other practices, which has lead to these issues

And all the practices where I live would have over 1000 per clinic at least!!!

And you need at least 200+ over the age of 70 for in practice delivery.

The biggest practices were in the trial run in week 1 of the 85+ rollout
