Today being Paddy Day 2020... when do you think we will have a ‘flu jab’ / pill / syrup that we can take to make us immune/ les likely to catch this 19 virus?.

Mod: The purpose of this thread is baked into the title - COVID-19: Vaccine/antidote and testing procedures - it's not a platform to push an anti vaccination agenda. If that does turn out to be the case then there does need to be a plan to stop the US intercepting deliveries of the oxford vaccine in transit

Answer could be, right there in second last paragraph of article, without any illegal insider trading.

Covid-19 vaccine will be just a one off payday. After the preorders are fulfilled there will be competition between a number of company's with competing vaccines. Projected profits built in to share price, by overexcited investors prob. overestimate potential profits and insiders are more aware of this than market.

It's a worst case scenario. The virus is spreading mainly among younger adults at the moment so if we can eliminate that source with a vaccine then surely the older generations will have less exposure to the virus anyway.
It's not an ideal situation but we have to walk before we can run.
I am in my seventies and receive the flu vaccine every year, I assume at some stage somebody said the flu vaccine wouldn't work on this one or that. As it is, I don't mix in large crowds, I don't drink in packed pubs, I don't travel on public transport because there is none, so I generally do what I need to do anyway.

Saw interesting discussion on vaccines between professors during the week (either CNN or bloomberg, not sure)
They were very optimistic about safety of vaccines, as methods used tried and tested ( though they clarified even common, safe medicines can have adverse effects on a tiny minority)
However they agreed there were 3 main questions, which really only time can answer
1. How long will vaccine protect for, and will subsequent doses be effective?( touched on earlier here)
2. Assuming vaccines protects, could vaccinated person still spread virus?( as asymptomatic people seem to be effective spreaders)
3. Related to previous...will vaccine effectively protect in elderly and sick, and if not, and vaccinated people still spread, how protect elderly and sick.?
Important issues, but I agree that we really need time for definite answers.

We may not have a choice. It will probably be high risk, front line, others at risk, maybe kids and then gen pop in that order. Q3-Q4 of next year would be good.

Looking at various polls in various countries the percentage of those willing to take the vaccine is between 30% to 70%.

I admire the research and effort behind it as it's unprecedented but I won't line up to take this vaccine.

A lot of people here are fantasising about giving cards to those who took the vaccine, put a bracelet on those who didn't or even deny those who didn't any medical care in case they get sick. None of these will happen and it's quite certain that no EU country will make this vaccine mandatory or exclude those who didn't take it.

Fair enough but, the fact that the vaccine producers are lobbying the EU for legal protection from any litigation that could result from the potential side effects for people that take the vaccine doesn't inspire my confidence in them.

Just out of curiosity, are you concerned about any particular vaccine candidate or a particular platform of vaccines?

There are at least 30 individual candidates in human trials at this point in time and using about half a dozen platform types.

When it comes to vaccinating non-risk groups there will be an even bigger choice of types and manufacturers to chose from, including the current safety champions - sub-unit and VLP types.
