If the chemist in my small town in county Roscommon have surgical masks for sale them most pharmacies across the country should have them

Couple of poster's on here rambling about personal choice whilst practising push down politics.

Currently the governments policy is to give the general public the choice to exhale potentially virus loaded droplets on public transport, in shops and in the enironmnet when out and about.

Luckily I knew what he was doing because of the absolutely mental people on here describing "chicken" games, where they make people who are risk adverse uncomfortable.

I started coughing violently under the mask and he took a step back.

Actually nobody clapped, everyone was looking at me as I was the only one on the crowded street wearing a mask. I don't mind them judging me but I really wish more people had been wearing them. A teenager about thirteen kept pulling the neck of his hoodie over his mouth. I was just thinking about how much more dangerous that would be because the knock on effect is that you're touching your mouth with your hand.

The asshole man in the queue only reinforced my mentality that you have to wear a mask because you have to presume you need to protect yourself against these mouthbreathers. Also others should be protected against if you potentially have it. It's not complicated.

Hadn't heard that term used in relation to COVID-19 but definetly have recieved plenty of abuse for wearing masks since pandemic started.

I should use that technique instead of my pump action disnfectent sprayer which nearly caused a scrap the last time.

JUST RECIEVED THIS MESSAGE:

It’s unclear if we’re fit testing in acute hospitals or nursing homes.

The fit test kit and the bitter/sweet test solutions didn’t appear on any of the PPE requirement lists I’ve seen

so arguably some Irish medics may as well be wearing surgically masks.

Thanks so much for posting that yesterday, couldn't resist not trying this today, half way through it and very confident that is the only way to do it.

Using parchment paper as suggested in the utube comments, which makes sealing the edge a breeze. He gave 3 options on the center line, so going to put a few evening's into toying with that and see if I can improve his mod. Reckon i'm going to be making the hot wire cutter aswell, just to speed cutting patterns out and for the buzz.

It's just one of those things when you touch it excudes quality.

I was in my local supervalu the day before yesterday. They were selling single use medical masks individually wrapped for 3.50 each. EACH! Two weeks ago I paid 100 euro for 100 masks, the exact same type supervalu are selling. No doubt supervalu paid either a similar price or even cheaper still (since buying in bulk). None of the staff were wearing masks themselves either so obviously management not even handing them out to their own.
In France the price of a mask has been capped at 95 cents.

Other countries are doing similar. Price gouging at the height of a global pandemic should be a criminal offence.

It shouldn't be allowed. Saw masks for €2 each in the pound shop. And they had loads of them in a brown paper bag. So reach in and pull out a mask for €2... That's mad. Surgical masks use to be at most €20 for box of 50 at beginning of year.

If anyone want's to understand how respirator masks here's some good info. It also explains how particles are effectively filtered. Well worth the read.

Poor mask uptake is primarily on the shoulders of the press and the State for they have been bashing it for months.

I have no interest in making money from this Pandemic but I do have an interest in the GP wearing facecoverings and in the future upgrading from facecoverings and surgical masks to FFP2 masks.

Loads of quality Mask's availble in Germany cutting out the midddle man on this site and not just facecoverings and surgical, proper FFP2 grade.

Merkel put the foot down early and the country's factories repsonded. Good read up here about how a coffee filter enterprise adapted to making masks, they made 10 million masks in the 1st month.

Meanwhile in Ireland we haven't even been able to form a government.

It seems that it's not only members of the general public that aren't using masks right. I saw an ambulance today and one of the paramedics was wearing a mask around his neck. I would have thought that paramedics would be trained on the proper use of PPE.

So the Garda got thier mask supply this morning.

Garda Headquarters said gardaí on duty would wear the masks in enclosed situations such as in patrol cars, public transport, shops or someone's home.

Well, I do blame them (and others like them). Are you willing to pay 3.50 every time you use a mask? Can you afford it? A family of four buying one weeks supply of these masks (28 masks, one a day for each individual) at the prices they are charging would set that household back 98 euro. That's the guts of 100 euro per week, almost 400 a month. How many households can afford that?
Whatever about the press and the State making a balls of it, that doesn't excuse price gouging. Uptake would be higher if price was lower.

Pharmacies, Supervalu, Lidl are 3 places I've seen them.

I bought some the other day I can see shopping centres will enforce masks how else can we have big groups. Xmas shopping would be a disaster if still only 1 in 1 out from big shops. Wife doesn't feel confident enough to wear them but I am definitely wanting both of us to wear them

I felt very silly myself wearing one today in the supermarket and I'm sure I got some snide looks/sniggers. Someone has to start the trend though, as other people start to see people wear them, they'll feel more comfortable until eventually it's the majority hopefully.
