Had enough of the bull**** now, I'm going to go about my business as usual once my exams are over. Its going to be a long rotten boring summer and I'm not willing anymore to put up with it. I'm in the at risk category and I couldn't give a ****. More and more this lockdown seems to have an ulterior motive behind it.

With all due respect peasant you are being extremist. Why is staying 2 metres away from another human a new norm now? Because Simon Harris says? Can i hug my mother when Simon says its ok? I do not live with her.

As to "highly contagious" part, I am unsure thats true. Global cases now is 3m or so, reading this thread, corona was in France in December. With freedom of movement in the normal days, 1 person being able to get to new york from beijing in under 24 hours, I struggle to see how the worldwide cases after 5 months are 3 million. Wouldve expected this figure easily to be 20m, or even 50m if its "highly" contagious.

Ofcourse the flip side of this argument is that many people have already had coronavirus, showed no symptoms and healed and havent been reported. In both cases, we dont really have much to be very afraid of?

Ah now its not aids.

Its more dangerous to people who are highly unlikely to be still sexually active. And 90% of those over 80 survive it.

We cant stop healthy people having casual sex because of what looking more like a highly contagious flu the more thats discovered about it.

Whats wrong with having high infection rate if ICU isnt overwhelmed? Are we in the business of 100% protecting our population from flu, coronavirus, should we preach to people how to live their lives to avoid getting HIV too?

Life is risk. If you want anything else, you need to stay indoors. If you are very old and have weak immune system, you need to isolate, unfortunately. If you have underlying conditions you need to isolate.

Why would you isolate if you are healthy? everybody in this forum, damn even the country know that % of healthy people are easily 95%, perhaps even 98%. If we open tkmaxx this isnt going to go to 50% infection rates..... people maintain social distancing with strangers. They have done so a long time now, how often do you walk right onto the person and expect them to move out of your way?

Wanting to have physical contact with you partner is not selfish and it doesn’t mean you don’t care about others. It is a basic primal human need and expecting people to go without it until a minimum of 2021 is insanity and totally unrealistic.

These extremist hard line views do nothing to further your position, if you can’t even understand why a person might want to hug their boyfriend at some point this year then I can only assume you’d be happy holed up in your house for the rest of your life and we therefore aren’t looking at this situation from the same perspective.

Yes exactly my attitude. Its completely selfish to isolate the healthy to protect the minority of the vulnerable, especially so, when isolating the healthy wont have any effect on what happens in nursing homes

Sweden's unemployment rate as result of pandemic is 10%. ours is 22% according to minister for finance. Ours will go down to 14% September onwards, assuming no 2nd lockdown, Sweden's will go down to the usual 6%.

The experiment here, given that death rates are identical in both countries, is going to be how long we can lock our barbers at home for. 4 months. 5?

It doesn't matter one bit who says so, me, Simon Harris or whoever. The reason why you shouldn't hug your mother is because you don't want to give her the virus.

If you absolutely need to hug your mother, quarantine yourself for two weeks and if you're sure you don't have the virus ...then you can hug her. I'm sure she'd do the same for you.

If the news that has come out about France is true, that changes everything. It confirms the theory that this virus has been around a lot lot longer than first thought and that surely means we’re further along in the timeline than what we were projecting.

Quite huge news out of France this evening, French doctor on BMFTV in France has said he retested all PCR normal flu swabs after having a patient with pneumonia in hosptial on 27th December, retest postive for covid. Now if its verified and they've said they'll publish the data in medical journals next week then this has been around a hell of a lot longer than people think

This shows the the lockdown is OTT, people were not dropping like flies when it was around in December

I do have to admit I lured you into that one. My mother already had covid19, she got it from her partner who is a nurse in Naas hospital. Both recovered and doing well, she said she just had weakness as 1 symptom and high temperature. They are 57 and 63 respectively.

I am unsure whether Garda will accept this explanation when I try to make my way to Laois from Dublin though. Is hugging my mother essential? a bit of sarcasm on last point

Yes, Covid-19 is not Ebola or the zombie apocalypse. In a way that's part of the problem. It's too easy to think that it won't affect you, and if it did it probably wouldn't be too bad.

That may well be true for you (perhaps even me), but it certainly isn't true for everybody. And because this virus is so very contagious and so very sneaky in its infection we can't just let it run rampant because then it would really affect everybody very quickly and kill a lot more people than it is now (while everybody is trying to keep some form of lid on it)

We will have to learn to live with it as best we can.
That also means that we need to get over ourselves and get this idea out of our heads that it is us against them ..the bunker-sitters against the pub-goers; the conspiracy theorists against the sheeple...the virus doesn't give a sh1t about our little fights amongst ourselves..it infects regardless. The sooner we understand that, the better.

If you get it - you risk passing it on to others. Your parents, your friends who may have long term conditions you know nothing about, those that get the infection anyway and end up in Hospital.

Yes we can vaccinate against flu. Yes people at risk from HIV infection is one if the reasons why advice re limiting partners and safe sex is now the norm.

But sure go ahead. Get yourself infected.

If everyon does that then ICU will be overwhelmed for sure.
