This is far worse a trap for society and the economy. We must avoid this fate ourselves.

The Taoiseach said the public’s behaviour could result in full lockdown being extended by “two or three weeks”, taking us into the third week of May. Funnily enough, that chimes exactly with how long the HSE says it will take for the State to ramp up Covid-19 testing to the level that we have been repeatedly told is necessary for an easing. So which is really to blame? Flouting of restrictions, or the State’s repeated failure on testing? A cynic might say the Government is allowing the public to be the fall guy to distract from its own mistakes. This is exactly why people are beginning to be rightly pissed off now .,Its the HSE s failure to act that is delaying the lifting of restrictions

It probably will help but it’s arguable that the benefits are outweighed by the negative impacts. 1. Joe bloggs just doesn’t understand the virus will live on the front of the mask, in a best case scenario. A. Then joe bloggs re uses the mask constantly - there’s a reason medical staff carefully throw them out without touching the front of the mask after every use B. Taking it off, leaving it on the table, picking it up again, using it, repeat, repeat. joe bloggs does not understand the front of the mask is a virus Petri dish they’re carrying around. 2. Joe Bloggs with a mask could be less likely to socially distance with the mask on. You’d need a massive public health campaign if you wanted to hand out millions of masks and end up with a successful outcome for joe bloggs.

The virus won't live indefinitely on the mask so could they be rotated around if you had a few, since you're not going to get enough for people to use disposables.
