There's also the discipline required that people don't seem to be able to adhere too 100% of the time. Maybe it's just not crossing the road as much any more when they see someone approaching. Or talking to the neighbour within 1m and not 2m. Maybe visit the family because they "know" they're okay. That's very difficult to combat and will be more so if people think nothing else is going to change so they might as well get what they can from the current restrictions. If they had a goal they could see on the horizon, it might help.

I've been very strict myself but the above is what I see just looking out the window.

Just to counter my own posting on this matter, Transport Infrastructure Ireland are saying that there is no measurable increase in road traffic and the 7.65% rise reported isn't accurate.

So what do people think we’ll get on may 5th? Increase to 5k? Clothes shops and DIY shops allowed to open? Hopefully we get a plan for the summer at least.

I find it interesting that the first uses actual electronic traffic counters, the second is "our analysis", I know which one I believe.
I'd love to know if there are google figures on this publically available?, with so many people carrying their android phones around this should be easily verifiable.

More shops/business to open if they can apply strict social distancing seems likely to me. I don't really know how the exercise radius will go.

I think they will set out a plan for the future lifting of restrictions too with schools being at the forefront of such a plan.

I think the same. Any easing of restrictions will probably be reviewed after the first couple of weeks to make sure that things are under some control. I reckon the June bank holiday weekend will be in the mix on decision making.

As well as we're doing, I get the feeling the current lockdown will be extended to June 2nd before another review.

Varadkar has said "However, he cautioned that certain stricter measures might have to be introduced."

Weather than means we follow the Spanish or Italian lockdowns and remove the 2km allowance for exercise completely, and only once a day allowance to leave your home for essential medical or food supplies and with a signed form required...

I'd be very surprised if that were the case. I doubt they'd get buy in from the public if they did, judging by what many of us can see is already happening.

I'd also be surprised if any ease up is as great as some people expect. Germany's gradual easing in stages certainly seems like a sensible approach.

Think they will need a bigger expansion than out to 5km

Travel will need to be increased so people can go see friends, family, those in relationships not living together but in a socially distanced way

Not going to happen. There are genuine concerns of the damage to people’s mental health now and also economic carnage. I can 100% assure you it won’t be extended.

2km limit to go and restaurants and business allowed reopen with strict restrictions. Intense monitoring and testing will begin properly to keep track of any spikes.

Genuinely there is no way there will be an extension until June. Not sure where you got that from?

This shows your complete misunderstanding of how people go against this. If people want to stop adhering to the 'lockdown', it won't be a ****ing riot. They'll simply start socialising, meeting their friends etc.

I was stopped at a checkpoint this morning....

Everyone I've heard - Leo, CMO, etc etc - have all, without exepctions, said the relaxation of measure will be step-wise, observing the effects of each step as they happen for an increase in infections. They have also said that the start of the relaxations only MAY happen on 5/5 - it all depends on where the numbers, and more importantly the testing capabilities, are by then.

I don't know where posters are getting this "guaranteed it's all over on 5th May" attitude from!

My biggest concern is that they really don't seem to have got a handle on the testing - there's not a lot of detail being given about it, and any that is given seems to be vague or fudged somehow.

I really don't know what the problem is, but my gut feeling is that there is a problem with ramping testing up to the point where we can relax restrictions - and I really wish they'd be clearer and more up front about it.

I think this is unlikely. The government have to be super careful with the language they are using but I think they also know that people need a morale boost, even if its only something small like more shops open. The Spanish and Italians implemented those measures when the virus was out of control. We just about have it under control here, our situation isn't even vaguely similar. Though if we get some more small bit of freedom on 5th any sign of a spike in numbers will see that rolled back.

one of my neighbours just took an overdose. he had been distraught that he had become so isolated in his home due to the restrictions (not being allowed visit his neighbours and friends) and this is only 6 weeks into lockdown, what will things be like if we have to deal with months of these restrictions?
